World record-holder Usain Bolt put a poor performance in the Czech Republic behind him with a new season's best of 9.76 seconds in the 100-meter race at the Golden Gala on Thursday. Bolt ran a relatively slow 10.04 in Ostrava last week, raising questions about his Olympic preparations. His previous season best of 9.82 was set at home in Jamaica this month. While his start in Rome still wasn't exceptional, Bolt quickly pulled in front. Former world record-holder Asafa Powell crossed second in 9.91 and European champion Christophe Lemaitre was third in 10.04. There was virtually no wind.

AP Interview: Bolt slowing down - off the track

While still only 25 years old, the triple Olympic champion is realizing he doesn't have the energy levels he once enjoyed. Late nights are out, and getting to bed by 11 p.m. is the new regime. ''When you become older it's the fact you don't have enough...

In Powell's mind, he's not competing against Bolt

In Asafa Powell's mind, he's not competing against Usain Bolt. His target is simply winning any 100-meter race he enters. ''I'm not here to compete against Bolt,'' Powell said ahead of Thursday's Golden Gala meet featuring the current and past world record-holders. ''The finish line is my target, not Bolt or anyone else.'' Bolt holds...

Spearmon driven by medal that wasn't

The moment might have been the most heartbreaking of the 2008 Summer Olympics: Sprinter Wallace Spearmon draping an American flag over his shoulders, taking his victory lap after his third-place finish in the 200 meters, then stopping when a race official halted him and Spearmon's face falling when he realized something had gone very wrong. It's a moment we've all confronted...
