For those scoring at home, Yohan Blake’s custom-made Richard Mille watch is worth $5,000 per meter of the 100 meter race that scored him a silver medal.  Why would be wear such a thing?  Because he can.  My guess is that he figured that he had no chance to beat Usain Bolt (who clocked an Olympic record 9.63).  Blake ran a 9.75…did the weight of the watch factor in?  No way.

The noteworthy part (other than Blake wearing half a million dollars on his wrist during the best ten seconds in sports) is that the International Olympic Committee is looking into this incident because Richard Mille is not an official Olympics sponsor.

Athletes are supposed to wear clothes from sponsors, which is obvious from all the logoed gear that they sport. The same rule applies to accessories, and Omega is the Olympics’s official timekeeper — not Richard Mille. Blake, who won the silver medal in the 100 meter race, is now being investigated on whether or not he broke the Olympic rules in regards to donning items that aren’t official sponsors of the Games.

Yes, it’s a nice watch.  But, it won’t cook me breakfast, nor does it contain nitro boosts like Blake needed.  And if you look closely, it also didn’t cut his fingernails.  Gross.
