Lolo Jones has been a lightning rod for controversy since just before the 2012 Summer Olympics, but now she’s making headlines of a different sort. Jones is trying her hand in the world of bobsled, and she is taking to her new sport quite well.
Jones is seeking a spot as a push-athlete, and she and pilot Jazmine Fenlator finished second at the opening night of selection races on Saturday. The team posted a time of one-minute, 57.01 seconds over its first two runs. That was just 0.05 seconds behind Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans (1:56:96), who currently sit in first place.

Greubel and Evans are among the favorites, but Jones did pretty well considering it was her first attempt at the sport.
The bobsled runs continue on Friday night and the team will be selected at the end. Jones has a serious chance to make it if she has done this well with virtually no experience in the sport.
Bobsled coaches have always looked towards track and field as a great spot to recruit athletes from. So it’s not too shocking at Jones is trying her hand at the sport.
Here’s what she had to say about the experience:
“I’m just trying to take it all in. It’s a new sport for me and there’s a ton of room for improvement…I’m coming in here trying to learn everything quickly. I’m looking forward to fixing some things and hammering it out.”
We’ll keep you updated on her progress.
