Amateur Triathlete Dies during Swim at Hy-Vee Triathlon

A 46-year old man died after being pulled from the water during the swim leg of the Hy-Vee Triathlon in Des Moines Iowa. Shortly after the start of the 1.5k swim Jim Goodman of Urbandale signaled for help and was quickly pulled from the water. Resuscitation efforts commenced immediately and Goodman was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away.

It's so sad to hear about stories like this one. Unfortuneatly when your time is up, it's up. Hopefully, this gentleman was enjoying every second of his final event.

It seems like most of the deaths in triathlon happen in the swim.

A 44 year old guy died at a tri up in Oregon this past weekend. You wonder if its just probability, random or if there is some way to help prevent these deaths. It seems to be men in theire 40-50s and its always the swim where the deaths seem to happen.
