Cincinnati Bengals... Itches

The best NFL-related vanity license plate that I've ever seen. Sure, it's probably fake... but who cares?

Delusions of grandeur: Bill Simmons as NBA GM?

Bill Simmons wants to be GM of the Milwaukee Bucks, and he thinks they're crazy for not considering him as a candidate. "As tragic and depressing as this sounds, other than winning the 2008 lottery, framing LeBron James for a crime or bringing Don Nelson back to Milwaukee, the only realistic way that the Bucks could generate some local and mainstream buzz would be to make me a candidate… just to get their fans chattering, they should have contacted me and thrown my name in the mix, even if they didn't really mean it."

JoePa getting put out to pasture?

Legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno is on the cusp of his 43rd season at State College, and it may be his last. According to reports, the "Penn State Board of Trustees is expected to address Paterno's future during meetings today and tomorrow at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Washington."

One trustee had this to say: "It'll definitely be on the menu."

It'll be a sad day when JoePa leaves football and/or dies, and it'll be even sadder if he doesn't go out on his terms.

#1 selects Ohio State

Terrelle Pryor twice this year led his team to Pennsylvania state championships: football and basketball. Today the nation's top QB chose Ohio State over Michigan (and also Oregon and Penn State, though the latter two were never really in the running, reportedly).

In addition to being the nation's top gunslinger, Pryor is a top-100 basketball recruit. He will definitely play football but is undecided on whether or not to play basketball. Coach Thad Matta could definitely use Pryor's help. The Buckeyes missed the NCAA Tournament after playing in last year's title game.

"As a senior, the dual-threat Pryor rushed for 1,899 yards and 33 touchdowns and passed for 1,889 yards and 23 touchdowns in leading Jeannette to a 16-0 record and the Class AA football crown."

Brady's on the back burner

Today QB Derek Anderson re-upped with the Browns after agreeing to terms on a multiple-year contract, which means Browns QB Brady Quinn will have to wait at least another year to get a shot as an NFL starter. Unless a trade is in the works.

Cleveland doesn't have a selection in either the first or second rounds of this April's NFL Draft. They traded the second-rounder for Green Bay DT Corey Williams, and they gave up the first-rounder last year to move up and select Quinn.

"If they are keeping Anderson, what does this do to the free agency plans? If Anderson eats $12 million, and another $6 goes to Corey Williams, that leaves the Browns with around $15-$17 million left to sign free agents and draft choices."

Adam Schefter of the NFL network reported that Anderson's contract guarantees more than $14 million, though neither Quinn nor the Browns have confirmed the details. The contract came only hours after Anderson became a restricted free agent.

H-O-R-S-E: Will Ferrell and Bill Walton

Will Ferrell is actually pretty good. Bill Walton? Not so much anymore. Walton and Will play H-O-R-S-E and talk hoops.

Jamal Lewis re-ups with Cleveland

Cleveland's RB has agreed in principle to a deal that would keep him in a Browns uniform for two more seasons. His 1,300 yards and 9 TDs last year helped put the Dawg Pound back on the map.

Derek Anderson to Miami for #1 pick?

Despite Derek Anderson's terrible performance in yesterday's meaningless Pro Bowl, there is buzz that he may be headed to Miami for the #1 overall selection. Does anyone think that Anderson's agent is wishing he would have steered clear of Honolulu the same way many prospects steer clear of the NFL Combine? If you perform well in the Pro Bowl, you've got nothing to gain because no one plays defense. The game sucks like that. But if you perform poorly... you get my point.

The only reason this trade would even be considered is because this year's crop of QBs is pretty average on the whole. There is no must-have guy, and Matt Ryan's name emerges above the others only because analysts, scouts and managements feel the need to latch on to someone as the best of the best. Truth is, any number of guys could be the best QB in this year's draft. Why waste a top pick on a gamble? Or on Derek Anderson for that matter?

Cleveland, if Miami wants to give you the #1 pick for Derek Anderson, I have three words for you: PULL THE TRIGGER.

Braylon Edwards loves guns

Braylon Edwards gets gun training from Navy personnel at the Pro Bowl. Fortunately for those nearby, Edwards was reportedly less accurate than Tom Brady in Tempe. Nobody move, nobody get hurt... bang, bang!

Hot Indian tennis star refuses to play at home

"Every time I play in India there is a problem. Considering all that, I thought it would be better not to play in Bangalore." India's loss is the Internet's gain.

Derek Anderson headed for purple pastures?

"Things are apparently not going well as the Browns attempt to sign Derek Anderson to a long-term deal. According to reports, Anderson recently turned down a 3-year offer worth $16 million. The QB is looking for a five-year deal, which is longer than the Browns really want to go."

I'd love to see Derek Anderson stay in Cleveland, but a five-year deal is too long, especially with Brady Quinn waiting in the wings. If the Browns can get some draft picks out of the Vikings, they should take the proverbial money and run.
