So we are 11 days away from the BCS NCG, OSU vs. LSU. Some of you right now are thinking to yourself "screw OSU/LSU _(insert your two loss school here)_ deserves to be there". Fact is, there were many teams that "deserved" to be in the NCG whether it was from their play on the field or the media hyping them through the season. It seemed like more than others this year the media was just hoping to have some type of media darling to hang their hopes on. Did Boise State spoil them so much last year? Did that make them believe that these smaller non BCS conference teams can regularly compete with the big boys? Is it that they believe the "Statue of Liberty" or "Hook and Ladder" are normal plays that non-BCS schools run on first down sort of like our toss left? Regardless what the reason was the media was quick and eager to say many schools were "the best team in the nation". Their fans came out of the woodworks and were chomping at the bits to tell how great their team was and how they got no respect from the national media and fans. I am stoked for you all, I mean seriously my stomach flutters in excitement to see your team play but eventually even you have to open your eyes, take off your homer glasses and ask yourself a few questions:

1. Did my team beat more than 2 teams all year with over a .500 winning percentage?

2. Is my opponents' combined record 53-94?

3. Does your division have 4 good teams and you did not play 3 of them?

I'm not here to bash on any school, I have not named one school yet besides the two playing in the NCG but eventually there has to be some point where you sit back and are just happy to be playing in a bowl your team has never played in before. Don't whine and moan that your team deserves to be somewhere else. Especially if just a year ago your team was not even close to making a bowl game or was playing in a home sponsored bowl game. This is a time of year to be grateful so be grateful on how far your team has come and look forward to watching your team get a major bowl win that propels them into another very good 2008 season. Always remember, just because your team has one great season does not mean they are a "powerhouse". For every Fresno State, who had a good year and then fizzled, there is a West Virginia who went from obscurity to a contender year in and year out. Ask yourself if back in August you would have imagined your team being where they are today? Most of you probably did not (Kansas) and some might have thought they would be somewhere bigger (USC). I can no doubt sit here and say I did not expect the Buckeyes to be playing in the NCG back in August. They are a young team that would be good but I had realistic expectations, I'm sure my Oklahoma buddies feel the same way. Being a fan of a team you always 'expect" them to be great but sometimes those realistic expectations are still exceeded. I am grateful for the season my team has put together and be grateful for the exciting and wacky season we got the privilege to watch. Good luck to you and your team…..
