Romo Says He Can Play This Week

Tony Romo is apparently telling coaches and people within the Cowboys organization that he doesn't need any time off, and that he can play through the games with a broken pinkie. I don't even know why I care because Romo isn't even on my fantasy team, and I'm not too big of a Cowboys fan...but I do like Romo, and this does not surprise me, the guy is great for the league (;

P.S. You have to watch that lame State Farm commercial before hearing the report

Lakers To Break 95-96 Chicago Bulls Regular Season Wins Record?

I'm not even a fan of The Lakers, in fact, very, very far from it. My hatred has nothing to do with anything, except that I'm from the Bay Area and it's fun to hate L.A. teams, plus the "Beat L.A." chant has a certain rhythm and tune to it that seems to be in rhythm with nature. But, saying all of that I cannot deny the fact that the 08-09 Lakers have a pretty damn good team, good enough, in fact, to make me wonder if they can win more than 72 games? which is the current NBA record (.878 -Chicago, 1995-96 (72-10). A starting lineup of Fisher, Kobe, Odom, Gasol and Bynum, with a couple of talented guys like Ariza coming off the bench, Phil Jackson there to coach, and Kobe Bryant coming off his energy of winning a gold medal in China, makes me ask are the 08-09 Lakers good enough for 73 wins? Or is the West just too tough?

*Also a side note. I do not have any secret devious notions to curse the 08-09 Lakers by asking this question...well, maybe a little (;

SJ Mercury Asks: Who's To Blame For Alex Smith's Demise

It's looking more and more like J.T. O'Sullivan will be the starting QB at the start of the season for the SF 49ers. Sullivan, a Mike Martz product, and Alex Smith, who is apparently not learning the offense to well, are the two front runners for the starting gig. The SJ Mercury asks who's to blame? Smith, injuries, or The 49ers?

Smith had his best season under offensive coordinator Norv Turner, but Turner left after only one season, and Smith and company have been all over the place with the offense since. The SJ Mercury suggests that maybe Smith's injury last year and his public comments of stating that his injury was the problem for poor performances might have something to do with Smith's current woes, especially since making excuses for bad play is a big no-no in the '9ers locker room. So apparently current teammates and the coaching staff don't think Smith is much of a leader after his comments last year about his injury because there's a lot of talk and rhetoric this training camp and preseason about J.T O'Sullivan's superb leadership abilities.

Thankin' International Basketball Teams For Giving The U.S.A A Nice Kick In The Ass: Does Any Team Have A Chance?

With the U.S. men's basketball team heading into their Quarterfinal final match against Australia, and coming away with wins in the Preliminary rounds that looked like: USA 101 China 70. USA 97 Angola 76. USA 92 Greece 69. USA 119 Spain 82. USA 106 Germany 57. With wins like that will any of these remaining teams that the USA is slated or could potentially play have any shot of making a game interesting throughout, say keeping their final margin of loss in single digits? Personally, I think even if Satan himself were on one of these international teams they would still have no shot of beating this new re-vamped team, who are now taking matters seriously, which ultimately means no STEPHON MARBURY!
