In theory, the Rockets should win the west...

...but with Ron Artest, you never know. A great supporting cast with three super stars should be enough to get T-Mac into the second round.

1/20/2008 - Ice Bowl II

The recent NFC Championship Game between the Packers and Giants had all the qualities of being nickname-worthy: a plethora of great plays, even more bone-headed mistakes, a game-winning field goal, a below-zero temperature, and just the third overtime ever in a championship game. And in the end, it was the player who failed more than anyone else who wound up being the hero.

2/26/2004 - The Bartman Ball gets destroyed

How bad has it been for the Chicago Cubs the past 99 years? They were once so desperate to break their curse that they electrocuted, destroyed, and later ate the Steve Bartman baseball.

11/26/1998 - The Turkey Day coin flip

A Lions/Steelers Thanksgiving game came down to an overtime coin flip. The Steelers appeared to win the coin flip, but referee Phil Luckett said otherwise, and the Steelers lost the game. What ensued was a controversy surrounding the veracity of Jerome Bettis and the rotations of a quarter.

Milwaukee Bucks doomed to mediocrity

For the 2009 season, the Milwaukee Bucks will pay Andrew Bogut, Michael Redd, Richard Jefferson, and Mo Williams $50 million, when they could've saved time by flushing the money down the toilet.

It's Brand or bust for less-interesting Warriors

The Warriors absolutely need to land Elton Brand if they want to stay competitive. But even if they land him, the old, exciting, run-and-gun Warriors are dead.

Jermaine O'Neal trade is risky, but worth the risk

Jermaine O'Neal might not have a lot left in the tank, but let's face it, Toronto wasn't going anywhere without a big move anyway. Now there's at least a chance they'll challenge the East elite.

http://www.inhistoric.c om/2008/06/mets-fire-ra ndolph-in-hillary-esque -way.html

The New York Mets fired Willie Randolph in a 3 AM press release after winning on the road the night before. Hmm, which politician does that remind me of...

If Donaghy's going down, he's taking the NBA with him

Tim Donaghy says that two of the three refs working Game 6 of the 2002 Lakers-Kings series rigged it so that it would go to a seventh game. Is Donaghy using inside experience ala Jose Canseco or is he just trying to help himself ala Jose Canseco?

The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat

Yesterday, ABC announcer Jim McKay died at the age of 86. The most replayed words McKay ever uttered were "the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat." Read on to find out what sports images represented his intro for "The Wide World of Sports"

Change is sweeping the sports world too

Not only do we have a black guy as the presidential favorite, the Cubs are in first place for the first time in 100 years, the Rays are leading the American League, the Lakers are playing the Celtics again, and the Yankees are in last place. Now that's change.

Being Detroit's coach leaves no job security

Within six years, the Pistons have let Larry Brown, Rick Carlisle, and Flip Saunders go, three defense-oriented coaches who won 50 games every year with the team. Michael Curry, you got your work cut out for you.

And it only took 11 months...

You know what's pretty remarkable? If Mitch Kupchak and Danny Ainge were fired in the offseason, the NBA would be looking at another Spurs-Pistons Finals. Instead, it's the best possible alternative.

Celtics have many concerns for Game 5

If the Celtics win the NBA championship, they'll break the record for most playoff games and maybe the record for most losses. That's not the 66-win dynamo we expected.
