Cubs Win 3-2: Henry Blanco Brings the Heroics, Jim Edmonds Brings the Fireworks

The Chicago Cubs packed the place again as they beat the Cardinals 3-2 in a game that went 11, allowing the Cubbie faithful an extra two innings of free baseball.

Henry Blanco stepped to the plate with bases loaded against an infield and outfield that were both brought in with the expectation of Blanco not being able to hammer one out of the park.

Derek Lee led off with a walk, followed by an Aramis Ramirez single and an intentional walk to Kosuke Fukudome...

Cubs Win 11-4: Exciting Comeback Highlighted by Mark DeRosa

The Cubs' bats came alive again today giving them the series win against the Houston Astros.

The Cubs scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Mark DeRosa doubled in Jim Edmonds for his first of many RBI today.

Houston came back quickly though, plating four total, thanks to Carlos Lee's 3-run home run. Once again, Jason Marquis cannot seem to avoid the "big inning."

But the bats came alive for the Cubs in the bottom of the 3rd as they scored eight on Mark DeRosa's grand slam and Alfonso Soriano's 3-run shot. Fukudome, Soto, and Marquis also had an RBI each in the game. The scoring for both teams stopped after the 4th as the Cubs had the lead, 11-4.

Chicago Cubs: Jerry Hairston Must Hate His Former Team

Last night, Jerry Hairston made a return to Wrigley Field, where he formerly played as a Cub.

He doesn't have the fondest memories from Chicago, but they aren't bad either. He was an average player who started occasionally.

Now, he is a member of the Cincinnati Reds, and he has to be starting to hate the team he once called family.

He had sure hits be stolen by him by Cubs defenders. First, a blooper into center field was caught by Jim Edmonds laying out to make a diving catch, robbing him of a sure single.

In his next at bat, Hairston sent a laser ground-ball towards...

Big Z Gives Nickname a Whole New Meaning

Carlos Zambrano allowed zero runs in his first start back after a stint on the 15-day DL today against the rival St. Louis Cardinals.

What's even better is that the Cubs were able to pull off the win 2-1, which is different than the way they outscored teams earlier this season.

Zambrano allowed zero runs, four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in six innings of work.

The only run for the Cardinals came on a two-out eighth inning home run by Albert Pujols, his 18th on the year.

The Cubs scored on a first inning home run by Kosuke...

The Cubs take on a Monster

Tim Lincecum is a decent pitcher. He's on the Giants so he can't be that good right?

Well, he's kinda better than decent, 9-1 with a 2.38 ERA and 114 strike outs is pretty damn good.

But he is going against one of the best lineups in the majors, which comes with power, hitting, patience, and consistency.

They may be slumping, but the Cubs have one thing on their side. The SI Cover Jinx. Lincecum is on the cover of the latest Sports Illustrated, and what better time for the jinx to come into effect than in his first start since the issue came out against my Cubbies.

Which jinx is more powerful, the Billy Goat or...

Chicago Cubs Back on Track

The Cubs have been slumping, but even without Aramis Ramirez, the San Fransisco Giants seem to be the perfect cure.

Last night, the Cubs beat the Giants by a total of 9-2, on to some of the highlights and lowlights.

Ted Lilly stayed strong pitching eight innings allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, and 2 runs with five strikeouts.

Mark DeRosa was the hero of the night, crushing a two-run homerun in the fifth inning, and then adding insurance in the eighth with a one-out grand slam...

Chicago Cubs: Who Cares if the White Sox Win a Few?

The Cubs may have lost the first two games against the Chicago White Sox, but Joe Willett isn't worrying just yet.

Meet the Cubs: Derrek Lee

The Cubs are playing very well this year, possibly up to World Series caliber. Derrek Lee has been the leader in the clubhouse, but could his playing difference at home and on the road be his downfall?
