Manual was right to bench Rollins.

So how about those Phighting Phil's? I'd say that so far at this point they are on the road to successfully defending our NL East crown. Now I will admit that it's not even the All Star break yet. So we have a long, long way to go. But it is about time that this ownership put together a team that is not only winning in April, May and June, but they are outright kicking the rest of the competitions ass.

See it has been a long time for this town to be pumped about its baseball team at this time of the season. We normally don't get this excited for the Phil's until August. But the Fans of the Phillies can honestly hold their heads up high and say that their team has a chance to make it the big show.

However, this is Philadelphia, and it wouldn't be Philly if we didn't find a dark cloud on this otherwise bright, sunny day. Now what I mean by that is it seems that a lot of people are up in arms over Uncle Charlie benching the 2007 Most Valuable Player, Jimmy Rollins.

Now let me say that I was at that game yesterday afternoon, and I said to the people who I was with that I wouldn't be surprised at all If Manual benches Jimmy, after all, the lack of effort put forth by him after he hit that pop-up was really disgraceful. It is basic little league training -- It doesn't matter how you hit that ball, run your heart out till you get to first. Needless to say that it was un- Jimmy Rollins like.

Now when I came home after the shutout game against the Reds. I turned on the radio and listened to some sports talk and read up on what was going on in the sports world.

I was shocked.

Shocked that so many people found it offensive that Manual benched Rollins. I heard everything from "If he were a white ball player he wouldn't have benched him" to "Rollins is the MVP, he doesn't deserve this treatment."

And my question is why?

Why should Jimmy Rollins be treated different from the rest of the club? Is it because he is the leader of this team? Perhaps it is due to him winning Most Valuable player last season, or the plethora of awards in which J-Ro has earned over his years of service as a Ball Player?

To be honest, I don't think he deserves to be treated special at all. I am aware he is the heart and soul of this team. I am aware that he is one of the longest tenured players on this ball club. But when it comes to slacking off on a play, then you're no better then a rookie who just came up from the minors.

I understand completely what was going on in Charlie's mind when he benched J-Ro. Cause had he allowed Jimmy to take that play lightly then he would have to do the same with everyone. And before you know it you're no longer one of the best teams in the league. You are now the Kansas City Royals.

And I know that some were fans thinking that he wouldn't have been able to turn that error into a double anyway, and if you are thinking that then you really haven't seen Jimmy Rollins run. I've seen this man turn base hits into triples easy.

You know the thing with it all is that Jimmy isn't even pissed at Manual for benching him. He knew he messed up and he took his punishment like a real leader.

Which is why Jimmy Rollins will lead this team to a World Series title.

Donovan McNabb will get respect.

It has been sort of a right of passage in our city of Philadelphia, Superstar athletes being publicly crucified through the local media and fans during their time as active athletes. Then once they retire, they are glorified and even immortalized by those same members of media and fans.

For example, Mike Schmidt who may have been the greatest third basemen to ever play the game, and arguably the greatest Ball player to ever play in Philadelphia. During his time as a Philadelphia Phillie the fans and media struggled to find a good thing to say about the guy. Then when he retired they suddenly love the guy, and hated to see him hang the cleats up.

They say times change, but some things always remain the same. All throughout Philadelphia sports history you will find players that fans and media absolutely loathed and yet couldn't bare to see leave.

Today no example is greater then the one with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Throughout Donovan's tenure here he has managed to get this team to the playoffs several times, in fact since his arrival as a fulltime starter the eagles have only missed the playoffs twice, win the NFC east title five times, along with four NFC Championship appearances and an appearance in super bowl XXXIX.

All of those accomplishments made Donovan McNabb the most celebrated eagles quarterback of all time. Yet, a lot of Eagles fans love to find the smallest flaws with the guy.

When he made plays with his legs because the receivers were sub-par, they said he ran too much and never would become a pocket-passer. Then when he became a pocket-passer the fans criticized him for not running anymore. They accused him of being too much of a "company man". Yet when he came out last season and criticized the Eagles for not supplying him with reliable receivers, they said he had an attitude problem. Even though those same members of the media and fans complained about the same receiver issue.

There will always be a group of people (Media members and fans alike.) who love to complain about the athletes in this city. After all you can't expect everyone to have a positive attitude in a town that has failed to win a championship in over 25 years.

But that isn't Donovan's fault that we haven't won a championship in that long. He has done all he could to bring a title to this town, including playing with third and fourth-string receivers as starters for most of his career. And playing injured, once he even played on a broken leg.

But still people seem to find reason to hate the guy. But don't take the words of the few to account for the opinions of the many. Most Eagles fans love Donovan and know how valuable he is to this team. But unfortunately that small group of pessimistic eagles fans love to voice their opinions and will make their voices heard to anyone and everyone that will listen. Even if their opinions may not make much sense, they will still find an outlet to vent their idiotic views on an athlete.

Will Donovan ever get the respect that he rightfully deserves? Sure he will, but unfortunately like the majority of the Sports Icons who have played in this town, he will have to wait until he retires to get the admiration that he should have received so long ago.

Chad wants to be an Eagle or Cowboy

This week's edition of ESPN magazine Chad Johnson said....

"If I can get out of Cincinnati, the sky's the limit. What could I do in a place like Philadelphia or Dallas? It would be ridiculous. It's gonna be like a whole new me, like Ocho Cinco 2.0."

It may not ever happen now that training camp is right around the corner. But this does show that Chad would welcome the idea of playing in Midnight green.

And on top of being pathetic it's not even original, the Canadians just did it two weeks ago.

It's kind of like me driving all the way to Pittsburgh just to Toilet paper Terry Bradshaw's house. Penguin fans keep up the good work of making yourselves look like complete morons.

Is the Reid family crisis really any of our business?

Philadelphia -- In Philadelphia the first Eagles mini-camp since the 2008 NFL draft has ended, and we got a chance to see for the first time how some of the new Eagles meshed with some of the veteran's.

Most of the media harped upon the crowded backfield of the Eagles. The Lito / Asante situation took top billing as we all knew it would. And even though there was some turmoil there were also some surprises -- like how well newly drafted WR/KR Desean Jackson was doing. Sure it was just his first mini-camp, but so many praised him about his desire to learn.

Now that this camp had ended you may think that the top story would be what the Birds are really going to do with Lito Sheppard, or how much Desean Jackson will be utilized in his rookie season?

Right now those stories are taking a backseat to the personal problems of the Reid Family. Garrett Reid was once again all over the pages of local newspapers for pleading guilty to smuggling drugs into jail.

I personally do not wish to get into the details of this story. I think it's the Reid's family business to deal with. Now what I do want to talk about is this, where does the line between newsworthy and "none of your damn business" stand?

Is it truly the media's job to report the problems of a family's crisis? Is it really any of our business to know what, if or how Andy Reid son smuggled into jail? I personally do not agree with dragging someone's family problems into the spotlight. Then again I am not member of the media. But If I were, I do not believe my values would change just to publish a story.

And that's what gets to me; some members of the media only decide to pay attention to this story due to having nothing better to write about. What enrages me even further is those same media members may even have the audacity to point the finger at Andy for his son's problems. Even though both of his son's are legal consenting adults.

I understand that Andy Reid is the coach of a NFL team in a media crowded town, where the top story usually has to do with the team that he is the coach of. But if his family issues aren't affecting his work, and according to him these problems have been there since before the Philadelphia Eagles went to the super bowl. So obviously this hasn't taken a toll on his work. So the media shouldn't be covering the story as drastically as they are.

So fellow yardbarkers I'd like to hear what you have to say. Is it any of the media's business to publicly drag Andy Reid and his family's personal issues into the spotlight?

An End of an Era in Philadelphia?

Eagles Country -- I was on Garry Cobb's website (Gcobb.com) and I was listening to one of his daily Podcasts. On that podcast he brought up something that chilled me to the core. That this season for the Philadelphia Eagles may perhaps be the end of an era in Philadelphia.

Each season the birds could count on four players without question. Since the beginning of the new millennium Andy Reid's players who have anchored this team have been obviously Donovan McNabb, along with Jon Runyan and William "Tra" Thomas on offense. Then there has always been Brian Dawkins holding down the defense. Now the way that this team has counted on for so many seasons may be heading into its final NFL season here in Philadelphia.

First off let's begin with the leader of this team, and regardless of what so many pessimistic bird fans say, this guy is the leader of this offense. I am talking about the one and only Donovan McNabb. Who in my opinion is a huge part of why the Eagles have enjoyed the amount of success that they have.

What success if they haven't won the big game you might ask? Well for starters they have only missed the playoffs twice since 2000. Under the Reid/McNabb era they won five NFC East titles and went to four straight NFC Championship games, three of those games were hosted by the Eagles. Including the last game, which they won against the Falcons, allowing them a place in super bowl XXXIX.

Sure this team hasn't won it all yet. But if you don't consider what this Eagles era has accomplished a success. Then you simply don't know the game of football. And if you think for a second that they could have done it without McNabb then please check yourself into rehab, because you may be hooked on crack.

The fact that Donovan McNabb may be looking at the end of his career here in Philadelphia really depresses me. Maybe a part of me doesn't even want to write this blog. But even for a die-hard Five fan like myself I have to acknowledge the writing that is on the wall.

First off Donovan hasn't appeared in a playoff game since 2004. We all know the reasons why and I for one believe it is just a matter of time before he leads this team back into the Super Bowl. But the front office sees this as a business and has to move forward as if it were a business.

They have yet to offer Donovan an extension, which would keep him in midnight green until he retires. There were whispers in 2006 that the front office and Donovan McNabb were working on that deal that would keep him here. But Donovan got injured and they then drafted his eventual successor when they took Kevin Kolb in the second round of the 2007 draft. All these signs lead me to believe that the Eagles front office are planning for a post McNabb era sooner rather than later.

Now Donovan isn't the only anchor on offense. And I know you're thinking "What about B-West?" But I see Brian Westbrook continuing his career with the birds after this season.

There are however two guys on offense who like Donovan may be on the way out. Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, both are top offensive tackles, both are among the best there are in the league and both are approaching their mid-thirties. And usually this team tries their damn best to dispose of players in or around their mid-thirties.

As shocking as the Donovan leaving on the offensive side of the ball Brian Dawkins departure would hit this team just as hard on the defensive side. Brian Dawkins has had a few seasons that have been questionable. Last season he was barely on the field at all. If Brian has another season where he is injured more than he is on the field. Then look for the eagles to try and find his replacement.

As bad as this sounds for Eagles fans that have supported Donovan, Runyan and B-Dawk, this doesn't have to be written in stone. As we all know the NFL runs by the old saying "what have you done for me lately?" And if Donovan has a year again like he has in 2004. Then talks of this team replacing him will fade away faster than Tony Romo's talent does when Jessica is in the building.

This Eagles defense looks as good as it's ever been under Andy Reid. The question going into training camp will continue to be the offense. Now we have Donovan and Brian Westbrook. But they cannot do it alone, there needs to be a player who shines this season who doesn't wear five of thirty-six.

Perhaps Kevin Curtis can continue to make progress. Maybe L.J. Smith will want to prove he's worth that big contract and play beyond what we have known him to do. Or maybe, just maybe the knew kid Desean Jackson wants to prove he should have been given more respect during the draft and he comes out of the gates with a chip on his shoulder.

Or maybe there is still a slim chance that they will make a move for someone who is a proven playmaker. We won't know until they play the Rams in the start of the new season.

The Lions weren't offered bologna for Williams!

There has been a lot of buzz going around in the media about teams attempting to trade for Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Roy Williams. Most of those rumors have the three teams in the NFC east who DIDN'T win a super bowl last year that wish to acquire Roy Williams the most. ( The Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys)

But according to the Detroit Lions President and CEO Matt Millen, the Lions weren't offered "Bologna" for the services of Roy Williams from any NFL team during draft weekend. This would of course contradict Eagles President Joe Banner when he stated that the Eagles would be more than interested in acquiring a playmaker that could help the Eagles.

Matt Millen states that when a team is interested in trading for a player on your team they usually call you and offer you a "bologna sandwich" for that player. Then you work up from that bologna sandwich to say a bologna sandwich with cheese. Then perhaps a condiment may be included as talks proceed. But according to Matt the bologna sandwich wasn't even offered.

So according to Matt Millen, no teams in the NFL are looking to acquire a pro bowl receiver from the Lions. That means us Eagles fans may be chasing shadows after all.

Or in this case chasing bologna sandwiches.

Lito Trade still may bring us a #1WR

I feel your pain fellow Eagles fans. I was there when they read that the Eagles had traded away (for a second year in a row) their first round selection. I thought to myself for a moment…Perhaps for that number one receiver that we have all been searching for?

But no….it wasn't to be. [ sigh ]

We traded away (for the second year in a row) our first round selection. For a few further round selections in 2008, along with a first round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. What in the world is this Philadelphia Eagles front office thinking?

WE NEED TO WIN NOW!

But then a thought comes to my mind, more like a bargaining chip really. A bargaining chip in the shape of a five foot, eleven inch, two-time pro-bowl cornerback. That's right, we still have yet to deal Lito Sheppard! But the draft ends and still no Lito trade takes place.

So the 2008 NFL draft has come and gone, and the Eagles have not one but two 2009 first round draft picks. Along with an all-pro cornerback and there's still no deal for a number one receiver?

This is unbelievable.

So Tuesday comes around, along with another rumor…

The word is that the Jags have just offered the Philadelphia Eagles their first round draft pick in 2009. Which would give the Birds not one, not two but three first round draft picks in that years draft.

Both the Detroit Lions and the Cincinnati Bengals are asking for two number one draft picks in order to acquire either one of their number one receivers (Roy Williams or Chad Johnson).

It is true that the Washington Redskins pursued a trade for the Bengals disgruntled number one receiver Chad Johnson. And even though the trade was for two number one draft picks in principle, in reality had Chad become injured or not met certain requirements or "escalators" during the 2008 season then the trade would ultimately be for only one first rounder and an additional third rounder. Instead of the Bengals true asking price of two first round picks.

It has been expressed through the media that all teams in the NFC east were extremely interested in acquiring both Roy Williams and Chad Johnson. But only one team in the NFC east has the first round selections in order to trade for either one of these receivers and that would be the Philadelphia Eagles.

All indicators point to the Birds making the trade with the Jaguars this week. Then directly after making the trade the Eagles will in all likelihood take two of their three first round draft picks and acquire either Johnson or Williams.

This Eagles fan is crossing his fingers for Williams!

According to an Article posted on Gcobb.com, Where a lot of news concerning the eagles has been breaking. Now that same site is stating that the Eagles will more than likely make a BIG move at Wide Receiver!

Tired of Plaxico having his way with Eagles CB's?

Perhaps this guy is our answer....

His name is Antwaun Molden and he may be an Eagle when this draft is said and done. For years, ever since Plaxico Burress signed his "Big Money" contract with the New York Giants he has been giving Philadelphia Eagles Corner Backs fits. Mostly because he's a whopping 6'6" and the majority of CB's in this league are under six foot.

But with Antwaun in the league Burress may have met his match. Molden is 6'2" with a vertical jump of 37.5 inches and a broad jump that clears almost 11 feet.

Mock Draft 1st round.

Well I finally did it, after all these years the NFL off-season has finally broken me down. The depression of no football games coupled with the Phillies and Flyer's losing yesterday has forced me to develop my own mock draft. In fact my very first mock draft ever!

I always said that you could never really judge what a team feels its own needs are. Take a couple years ago when Houston took Williams over Bush. Well, Now I am going to place myself along with the rest of the idiots who attempt to predict the Draft. So here goes….

1. Miami Dolphins â€" OT Jake Long

Well, if you have to pay someone 30 mil in guaranteed money, it might as well be the safest pick on the board!

2. St. Louis Rams â€" DE Chris Long

The Rams defense has simply been an abortion. Second generation athlete Chris long should change that.

3. Atlanta Falcons â€" DE Glenn Dorsey

The falcons have many crucial needs and one of them is on the defensive line. They may even trade down from this pick seeing as they have such an overabundance of selections in the second and third rounds. Only time will tell what they decide.

4. Oakland Raiders â€" RB Darren McFadden

The Raiders owner Al Davis has really had his eyes on this guy. If McFadden is there when Oakland picks I can't see them passing him up.

5. Kansas City Chiefs â€" OG Branden Albert

Larry Johnson needs a little help to become the running back that we all know he is.

6. New York Jets â€" DE Vernon Gholston

Jets need some help on that defensive line.

7. New England Patriots â€" OLB Keith Rivers

With the NFL's retirement home located in the Patriots Line backing core. They need some youth to go along with that experience.

8. Baltimore Ravens â€" QB Matt Ryan

New Coach, probably wants to start with a new leader.

9. Cincinnati Bengals â€" DT Sedrick Ellis

This team needs all the defensive help they can get.

10. New Orleans Saints â€" DE Derrick Harvey

Word on the streets is the Saints are looking to upgrade that defensive side of the ball.

11. Buffalo Bills â€"CB D. Rodgers-Cromartie

The Bills will take the best Cornerback on the board, looks like they are still trying to replace Nate Clements. Its either going to be Rodgers-Cromartie or Leodis McKelvin

12. Denver Broncos â€" OT Ryan Clady

The Broncos need to protect their franchise a little better before they even think about adding a new Running back.

13. Carolina Panthers â€" RB Rashard Mendenhall

Carolina needs to find that running game again. Seeing as their QB position is still unclear.

14. Chicago Bears â€" QB Brian Brohm

This team needs a new QB with potential. Not a QB who has had enough of an opportunity to prove himself.

15. Detroit Lions â€" RB Jonathan Stewart

There are a lot of questions surrounding this guy. But the Lions are more than willing to take a chance.

16. Arizona Cardinals â€" RB Felix Jones

True the cards have the Edge. But he's getting old and their new coach loves the run game. So they need to get younger at the running back position. And who know's…perhaps once it is all said and done Jones will be a better back than McFadden?

17. Minnesota Vikings â€" WR Devin Thomas

This team like the Eagles has been looking for a Receiver.

18. Houston Texans â€" OT Jeff Otah

This team needs to strengthen that O-Line.

19. Philadelphia Eagles â€" OT Chris Williams

As much as I want the Eagles to go for a playmaker, the odds are against that.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers â€" WR DeSean Jackson

I wanted the eagles to get this guy. He will be amazing. Which is why the bucs will take a shot on him.

21. Washington Redskins â€" FS Kenny Phillips

With the unfortunate death of Sean Taylor the skins may want to try to bring in another free safety to replace the huge hole left by Taylor.

22. Dallas Cowboys â€" CB Leodis McKelvin

23. Pittsburgh Steelers â€" DE Phillip Merling

24. Tennessee Titans â€" WR Limas Sweeds

Young needs a big receiver to toss the ball up to. Who better than an old teammate.

25. Seattle Seahawks â€" DE Calais Campbell

The Seattle will be looking to improve the defensive line.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars â€" CB Reggie Smith

This team came so close to being in the Super Bowl. They may look to get someone who can possibly halt the receivers they may play against.

27. San Diego Chargers â€" DT Kentwan Balmer

This is another AFC team who is looking to improve its defense to counter those great AFC offensive attacks.

28. Dallas Cowboys â€" WR Malcom Kelly

Word is they are looking to give Romo even more weapons.

29. San Francisco 49ers â€" WR James Hardy

Hardy could be what this team needs to make a run at the NFC WEST crown.

30 Green Bay Packers â€" TE Dustin Keller

These No Favre packers may be looking to give their first time starting QB a safety valve.

31. New York Giants â€" OLB Jerod Mayo

With Michael Strahan's future in question they may try to pick up the best player in the defensive line or line backer core.

Iggles Corner -4/7/08 -Eagles last hope for Salvation and my "Man Crush"

Well Eagles fans the 2008 NFL draft is literally around the corner. Now I don't know about you guys but I personally am psyched about the prospect of the Birds drafting a wide receiver. Now I know the odds are against them drafting anything other than a linemen. But they haven't attempted to draft a wide receiver in the first round since our favorite underachiever Freddie "Fred-Ex" Mitchell was drafted. So I figure they're due to draft one this year.

So right now I am putting aside all my hopes and dreams that the Eagles will trade for that established number one receiver. A Wide receiver like Roy Williams, Chad Johnson or Torry Holt, and just focus on one receiver. A college receiver who I am salivating from just the idea that the Eagles may draft him. No lie, I would sell my own Soul for the Eagles to call his name on draft day.

Yes I admit it. I have a "Man Crush" on that Wide Receiver from the University of California, DeSean Jackson. The man is lightning fast and has the best hands out of any receiver in this draft. Hell, he's got better hands then some of the top receivers in the NFL.

Not only is he a remarkable receiver he can also upgrade the Eagles special teams with his remarkable return skills. Which many experts are saying he's the next Devin Hester. Hell, his name even sounds like a top receiver " DeSean Jackson"

Mark my words; DeSean Jackson will be lightning in a bottle for any team that drafts him. I know he's the smallest receiver out of the top Wide Outs in the 2008 draft. But three or four years from now DeSean Jackson would have been the best receiver selected in this draft.

I can only hope for our sake that the eagles draft him. I wouldn't care if the rest of their draft day picks were all busts as long as we got D-JAX.

Remember on draft day a player who may be our last chance for salvation.

"Number one on that field and number one in the hearts of eagles nation, DeSean Jackson!"

Iggles Corner - 3/29/08- Eyes on the draft.

Yes Sir, I'm back again with some Iggles Corner for all you rabid Eagles fans. Hitting you with some News, Rumors and my opinions that most seem to hate yet can't stop discussing.

Now if you Bird fans are like me your patience is wearing incredibly thin waiting for the Eagles to find that forsaken number one receiver that we all are dying to acquire. I am on the computer what seems to be every other minute because I want to be one of the first to hear the breaking news that we have made that trade for Roy Williams, Ocho CInco, or which ever other receiver that hit the Eagles rumor mill this week.

But what I have realized as my sanity has hit it's breaking point is that the odds are piling up against our hopes of acquiring that number one guy. It turns out Lito Shepard isn't that valuable of a card too deal to teams with great receivers. Our only hope is a draft day trade and now I am beginning to question if that move will even take place.

But life must go on, after all this season we are looking at a Donovan McNabb at 100 percent health. McNabb won with way worse receivers than Brown and Curtis. And with this revamped defense this team can regain its status as one of the best teams in the NFC. Although they could be the best in the NFC with a number one receive….but I'm not getting into that this week.

No, this week I am getting into the draft. The 2008 NFL draft which is held on April 26th and 27th. And what I am going to do is not predict the first round of the draft, I mean I thought about doing that and decided that I really don't care who other teams draft. I only care whom the Birds draft.

So I decided to go with a top five prospects that the Eagles are likely to draft.

No 5. Jeff Otah || OT Pittsburgh.

We all know that Andy loves his offensive linemen and in any other draft if Otah was available you better believe that Reid would snatch him up in an instance. But this team needs a play make badly and can afford to wait for offensive linemen. That and I truly believe Otah will be gone before the Bird go on the Clock.

No 4. Kenny Phillips || S Miami

Kenny Phillips would be the ideal player for Brian Dawkins to take under his wing and mentor. Kenny is fast, athletic and strong and has the ability to not only be effective in coverage but also in plays that call for the Safety to stop the run.

No 3. Derrick Harvey || DE Florida

Now the Eagles just signed Chris Clemmons to a multi year deal. So why would they draft another DE? Well, with Clemmons only used as a backup in the past and being that his weight isn't up to NFL standards for a defensive end. The eagles might think on taking Derrick Harvey who is quick off the edge and can get to the QB fast.

No 2. Limas Sweed || WR Texas

This guy has a great chance to become that number one receiver that we Eagles fans have been dying for. Sweed is tall and quick with great hands. He has the speed to break away and stretch the field for the birds.

No 1. DeSean Jackson || WR California

What separates this guy's worth to the Eagles from Limas Sweed is his ability to take it to the house. He's not only the second best receiver on most expert's draft boards but he's also one of the best Kick returners in the draft.

I saw this guys combine footage and it blew me away, he's not only fast but he's quick too. (And yes there's a difference.) He's only six foot tall but he does have the ability to jump up and get the ball.

Unlike most rookies who the Eagles draft, I see him being effective his first year. As a kick return specialists the eagles cannot afford to let this guy rot on the bench all season.

Not to mention Jackson has been trained by the best Receiver of all time Jerry Rice. I mean if that doesn't put a "draft me" sign on this guys forehead I don't know what will.

Another reason I think they'd draft Jackson over Sweed is because they have the opportunity to draft another tall receiver in the second round in Mario Manningham. So those of you who want the birds to draft a tall receiver don't worry in the first if they don't get sweed.
