World's Fastest Woman?

It seems the deeper and closer sporting results are analyzed, the more performances of today and yesteryear are being questioned.

I can hardly stand the thought that one of my favorite track & field starts, Flo-Jo, would even be mentioned in the same sentence as the words cheating, doping or drugs. Sadly, in today's current sporting climate I suppose I would be naive to think it wasn't going on in the past as well. Just don't tell the little girl that was inspired by Flo Jo's brash clothing, long fingernails and amazing performances. She would like to continue to believe it was all the result of hard work, discipline and love of sport.

Cheaters will stoop to any level and these contraptions are about as low as you can go.

U.S. Olympic Swimmer Diagnosed With Cancer

It sounds risky to forgo surgery now to treat his cancer, but when your dream is Olympic gold and you've sacrificed to get to the biggest stage in the sporting world, it makes a lot of sense.

Man Dives 35-Feet into 12-inches of Water

When I was a kid I dove into our 4' deep swimming pool and smacked my head on the bottom. That was enough to teach me about diving into shallow water. This dude is nuts.

Germany on Top in BG ITU World Cup Triathlon

Germany made a statement that it is a triathlon contender in today's 2008 Hamburg BG Triathlon World Cup. Countrymen Daniel Unger and Jan Frodeno took one-two in the 1.5k/40k/10k triathlon. Great Britain's Oliver Freeman rounded out the podium in third. In sum total, Germany placed five athletes in the top eight places.

North American Sports Policy on Family Finish Pen

If you are not familiar with triathlon this 'family finish pen' may seem odd. NA Sports has recently published a new policy aiming to curb the amount of family members and kids that enter the course over the final few hundred meters of Ironman and Ironman 70.3 to finish with their mom, dad, etc. Athletes make a lot of sacrifices to train for and complete half ironman and ironman events. One of the tangible rewards of completing these races is the photo(s) taken at the finishline. Often, especially as the Ironman events wear on into the night, more and more family members 'accompany' their racers to the finishline. Often these supporters unintentionally get in the way of other competitors finishing the event. It is both an issue of safety and etiquette. NA Sports must have received A LOT of complaints over the years to have to institute such a policy. In my opinion it is about time.

Hasay Sets New 1500m High School Record at Olympic Trials

Jordan Hasay stole the spotlight during a heat of the 1500m semi-finals. The sixteen year old from California wowed the spectators when she and her waist long blond hair flew to a the finish with a new high school record in 4:14. For her efforts, Hasay qualified for the finals of the 1500. She is definetely one to watch as we will certainly see her shredding more records in the years to come. The little girl with the golden hair is on the road to gold medals for sure.

US Track & Field Trials - Goucher wins 5,000, Rhines makes it 3

Kara Goucher ran a brilliant 5,000 at the US Track & Field Trials in Eugene, OR yesterday. Goucher passed Shalane Flanagen and Jen Rhines with 300 meters to go in the 6.2 mile run. Her powerful kick saw her motor to the finishline winning the event in 15:01:01.

While it was exciting to see Goucher win the 5k, it was equally impressive to witness two time Olympian Jen Rhines finish second in 15:02.02 qualifying herself for a third trip to the Olympic games. Rhines ran the 10,000 at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the marathon at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Landis CAS decision due Monday

I was never a fan of Floyd Landis. It will be nice to hopefully see his name out of the headlines after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hands down their ruling on Landis' most recent appeal on Monday.

Let's move on and get pysched for this year's Tour de France.
