Lap 84 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is running lap times even with the leaders but his mistake on the start may have cost him the race. He's scored 38th with 31 cars on the lead lap as Michael Waltrip and Bobby Labonte go a lap down.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has placed drivers Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch on probation for the first six races of the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season, a result of their on-track altercations Friday during practice for the Budweiser Shootout.

Defending NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car champ Tony Pedregon returned to the track late Sunday after being evaluated at a local hospital after his Q Horsepower Chevy Impala suffered an engine explosion in the first round at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals. Pedregon returned to the track to cheer on his brother Cruz Pedregon.

A total of 23 drivers are eligible for the 2008 Budweiser Shootout — which will be the record for the largest field in the history of the event (The previous high was 22 in 2002). There were 18 drivers who gained eligibility by winning a pole in 2007, while five others are eligible because they are past winners of the Budweiser Shootout (and finished in the top 50 in final series point standings). Four drivers will be competing in the event for the first time.
