Federer Is The Most Dominant Athlete in Sports

Not Dwayne Wade, not LaDainian Tomlinson, not Tiger Woods. Roger Federer is the most dominant player in sports today. Just over the last two years, Federer has reached all but one Grand Slam final. In the last year, he went to the finals of every Grand Slam, and won them all with the exception of the French, where he lost to Nadal.

At age 25, he has won 10 grand slams, the youngest man to ever reach that point. In the Australian Open, he set another record by not dropping a single set the entire tournament.

Anyone care to disagree?

Woods Within Striking Distance at Buick

Tiger Woods shot a 69 today in the third round of the Buick Invitational, to put himself two shots behind the leader going into tomorrow's final round. Woods is seeking his seventh straight PGA tour victory...this is absolutely amazing. Going into today, Woods was seven shots back.

He just seems to take care of business every single time, kinda like Roger Federer. You think he'll end up victorious tomorrow? I think so- no PGA rookie is going to stop Tiger.

Serena Stuns Sharapova, Wins Aussie Open

Serena Williams surprised everyone yesterday, including her opponent and number-one seed, Maria Sharapova. After her loss, a frustrated Sharapova said, "You can never underestimate her as a performer. ... I know what she's capable of and she showed that today."

This was an absolute beating from an unranked Serena Williams, as she won 6-1, 6-2 in a match that lasted less than an hour. With this win, is she back on the tennis scene or do you think this was just a fluke victory for the phenom from Compton?

NHL Survey: Players Tell Us Who Top Their Lists

Check out this article, where the players have voted on various categories, like who's the best coach in the NHL, who's the best natural scorer, which team has the most intimidating fans, etc...

I think at a time when the NHL is at one of its all time lows, an article like this can't hurt to spike interest. Check and see if your picks coincided with those of the players.

NBA Considers Penalizing "Floppers"

Executive VP of basketball operations Stu Jackson has told reporters that the NBA is considering a rule that penalize floppers in the game. He says that a lot of time the flopping gets out of hand, and that it is only fair to penalize them. At the same time, however, it would be very difficult to detect, which would warrant a bunch of "poor" calls.

I understand that people like Vlade have been annoying (good thing he retired) with their flopping in the past, but I honestly look at it as an art. If players are good enough to fake it so that the refs call an offensive foul, then I think they should be rewarded for that.

In the mean time, how do you think Shaq Diesel feels about this consideration?

Fernando Gonzalez: Federer's Opponent in the Finals

The question we should really ask is does it even matter? Fernando Gonzalez played a spectacular match against Tommy Haas yesterday, winning in three easy sets, and advancing to his first Grand Slam final. But Andy Roddick had also been playing well. And look what Roger did to him.

Should we have any reason to believe that Federer will do the same to Gonzo, who has an 0-9 lifetime record against King Fed? I really don't think so. I know that Gonzalez has played unbelievably all tournament long, with wins over Hewitt, Blake, and Nadal, but I don't think it merits any hype until the match is over.

If Gonzalez, or anyone for that matter, can beat Federer, then, maybe, we can begin to talk. Until then, expect a beating from King Fed in the finals.

Nadal Advances, Blake Falls in Australian Open

The tournament from down-under is getting closer to its finish. And as we now approach the quarterfinals, a bunch of big-hitters are still left in the draw. Rafael Nadal, the number 2 seed, defeated Brit Andy Murray in a tough five-setter to move on to the quarterfinals, where he will face Fernando Gonzalez, of Chile, who ousted American James Blake in straight sets.

Nadal is in the bottom half of the draw, with King Federer at the top, with a looming semifinal matchup between he and Andy Roddick in the horizon.

Do you think Nadal has what it takes to get to the finals, past a tough Fernando Gonzalez, and then either a Tommy Haas or Davydenko?

Roddick Battles, Federer Cruises

In the third round of the Australian Open, the year's first Grand Slam, both Andy Roddick and Roger Federer advanced. But not in the same way. Federer cruised, as usual, to a straight sets win over Russian Mikhail Youzhny, while A-Rod struggled and battled against another Russian, Marat Safin.

Roddick won the match in four sets, including two tiebreakers, to give himself a birth in the round of 16. The big hitters had several brilliant rallies, but it was Roddick, and not Safin, who capitalized during big moments, including both tiebreakers.

Trot Nixon To The Indians For $3 Million

ESPN.com's Peter Gammons reports that Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon has signed a one year, $3 million deal with the Cleveland Indians. Nixon, who has played his entire career as a Boston Red Sox, will surely help the Indians in their quest for an AL Central title.

Do you think $3 mill is worth the lefty-bat of Nixon or could the Indians have done better?

Sharapova Sneaks By In First Round

The Grand Slam from down-under is underway, and top-seeded Maria Sharapova nearly escaped a first-round upset. Sharapova, who capped off last year's season with a win at the U.S. Open in New York, survived a 6-3, 4-6, 9-7 battle over Camille Pin in the first round of the Australian Open.

Sharapova battled cramps and the soaring heat (97 degrees) to overcome her opponent in the first round. Do you think Maria will be seeing an early exit from the Australian, or will she return to top form as the tournament progresses?

Tony Romo and Carey Underwood: A New Couple?

After the rumors between Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson ceased to be true, many are questioning the recent rumors about Romo and American Idol star Carey Underwood. Their "date-scene", however, seems to be a little more legitimate.

Apparently, Underwood was seen at the last Cowboys' game and Romo has told various reporters that he is dating the former American Idol phenom.

Any takes?

Matt Stafford: The Future of the SEC?

The Georgia Bulldogs had one of their worst seasons in a while this year. Nevertheless, they finished strong, with two victories against ranked teams- Auburn and Georgia Tech. The play of their freshman QB was a major part of these victories. Matt Stafford, the true freshman from Texas, really seemed to have matured by the end of the season.

Coach Mark Richt says that it was a "huge year" for Stafford to gain all that experience. NFL scouts like Mel Kiper Jr. are predicting that Stafford will be a future number 1 pick in the NFL draft. Do you think people are exaggerating the talent of young Stafford or do you really think he is the future of the tough SEC Conference?

Artest to the Clippers?

Apparently, there are a lot of trade rumors around Sacramento guard Ron Artest. After being traded to the Kings last season, Artest is apparently on the move. Perhaps there is a trade that is going down between the Clippers and Kings, which would flip-flop Artest for Clippers' guard Corey Maggette.

How do you think Artest's presence will affect the Clippers? Do you think he'll be the spark the Clips need to turn their season around?

Tiki Barber to Host Monday Night Football Next Year?

Apparently, the latest rumor is that Giants running back Tiki Barber will be hosting Monday Night Football. Barber, who is a league veteran this year, has been a consistent star for the Giants all year long. He has, however, criticized Tom Coughlin on various occassions for straying away from the running game too early in games.

Do you think Tiki will take some cheap stabs at Coughlin next year in the announcer's booth?

Vick Becomes 1st QB to Rush for 1000 Yards

Michael Vick is certainly nothing short of absolutely amazing. And although Atlanta's playoff hopes were dismissed in today's loss to the Panthers, Michael Vick set another record for himself. Vick became the first QB in the NFL to rush for more than 1000 yards. Vick, who needed 10 yards to accomplish the feat today, rushed for 17 on his first possession.

Any thoughts on the accomplishment? Is Vick changing the game?
