Eagles to take a look at
Albert YoungBy SEAN McCANN • Courier-Post Staff • April 9, 200
For the second year in a row, the Eagles may give a former Moorestown High School football player his NFL shot
Albert Young, a University of Iowa running back and two-time Courier-Post high school Player of the Year with the Quakers, confirmed that he is scheduled to visit the NovaCare Complex today for a predraft workout.
"I think they wanted to keep things on the down-low as far as where they might go in the draft, so I haven't talked with the coaches too much," Young said. "I like the Eagles' scheme because they like to use their running backs as receivers as well as ball carriers, and that's something I can definitely do."
The NFL Draft will take place April 26-27 in New York, and the Eagles have 11 picks spread over the seven rounds. Young is currently projected as a late-round pick, an area where some athletes would prefer not to be taken.
That's what happened to his former Moorestown teammate,
Dereck Faulkner, a Hampton wide receiver the Eagles signed as a rookie free agent after the 2007 Draft.
Young admitted that free agency has its advantages, but hopes to hear his name called anyway.
He ranks third on Iowa's all-time rushing list, carrying the ball 660 times for 3,173 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also caught 79 passes for 709 yards and two scores, while seeing occasional duty as a kickoff returner.
