I am a huge
Rich Franklin fan, but aso a Hendo fan. So when I first read about the fight my initial response was excitement, but the more I pondered on the fight the more it made no sense to me and here is why. It is a must win for both fighters if they hope to accomplish there goals (Franklin 205 lb. Champ, and Henderson the 185 lb Champ) This is why I'm confused at the 205 lb matchup in a recent interview Henderson was very clear that he wanted to challenge
Anderson Silva for a second time. So my point is if Henderson wins there is no problem, he could drop down and fight Silva or make a run at the 205 lb. belt, but if he loses, I find it hard to imagine he could drop back to 185 and make a arguement for a title shot. Franklin on the other hand is completely dead in the water when it comes to challenging for the 185 lb. belt. As long as Silva rules the division Franklin has no chance at a title shot. That being said, it is exactly the reason he moved back to 205. To me it seems this fight to be extremely dangerous for Franklin if he loses he falls back to the botttom of 205ers and has to make a serious decision about where his career is going. On the other hand if he wins and does so impressivley I guess Hendersons' name alone could make a good argument for a tilte shot or possibly a rematch with Machida granted Machida gets by
Thiago Silva (on the same fight card) and if Franklin gets by Machida, then he would undoubtedly deserve a 205 lb. title shot. So in conclusion, I suppose that with great risk comes great reward. And no matter who either fighter would lose to it would severly hurt their chances at regaing a title, so they might as well take a high profile fight with each other, get a big paycheck, and make a fight for the ages!!
