This has been the bizarrest of seasons I have ever witnessed. From Appalachian State knocking off Michigan to Lousiville Losing to everybody and Oregons'
Dennis Dixon going down and dropping out of reach of the Heisman Trophy. And speaking of the Heisman should Sophmores be allowed to win the award? In my opinion only juniors and seniors should win the trophy irregardless of how they perform that season. It should be based on how well their team does and what they have accomplished throughout the course of atleast a three year career.
Carson Palmer and Jason White are good examples in this case. They both battled injuries, Palmer had three disappointing seasons in the eyes of USC fans, White came back his senior season after god know how many knee surgeries and threw forty touchdowns, and they started the bulk of their careers while going through all the beatings and critisim. Tebow on the other hand who as New England coach Bill Belichick put it "just one of those players who woke up on third base and didn't hit the triple." following their national championship season. Tebow has not payed his dues nor led Florida to win their division much less their conference. He hasn't scratched the surface on his career yet.
After a season like this, it probably doesnt matter who wins it. But it should go to players like
Colt Brennan, Darren McFadden,
Matt Ryan, and possibly
Dennis Dixon. All three have been through more, broken records, and seen more action than Tebow. Even though Dixon went down in the latter half of the season, his absence was very well noticed as his team lost the final three games of the season. That shows how good of a player he is.
Over twenty touchdown through the air and on the ground is a hard statistic to beat for a lot of players this year. If he doesn't win it this year, I would probably think he will next year. I am not blind to how phenominal of a player Tebow is and on paper he did better than pretty much all the other candidates. But in my opinion the award should go to players who are more seasoned and have a longer track record of more than just one year.
