My mancrush for blazer rookie Rudy Fernandez is growing deeper and deeper with each game. The feisty Spaniard is all over the floor grabbing rebounds and cutting towards the basket for alley-oops. He can flat out score from anywhere on the court and is money from the freethrow line. Perhaps best of all is his confidence as a youngster. See rest of article at the Muffin!

A popular topic of discussion amongst bay area sports fans for the past few week was "How many wins does 49er coach Mike Singletary need to get the job permanently?" Honestly, I don't think even Vince Lombardi would make them favorites in any of their remaining games with the exception of their home game against the St. Louis Rams. The 49er organization and its fans should be looking at other signs to determine whether or not they want coach Singletary back on a permanent basis. There were many positives that the 49ers can take away from their narrow Monday night loss to the Arizona Cardinals. First of all, they were a Frank Gore trip away from actually winning the ball game. A few bad play calls and the inability to spike the ball quickly in the last minute of the game probably cost the team at least 2 plays. Rest of article at the Muffin!

Did anybody catch what Brandon Marshall pulled out of his pants after his TD catch against the Cleveland Browns tonight? For those who didn't watch the game, he caught a late TD catch to win the game for the Broncos. Right after he caught the ball he reached into his pants (in the crotchal area) and pulled something out. Rest of article at the Muffin!

There is currently a race among 4 non-major conference teams for a spot in the BCS bowl picture. The mid-major with the highest BCS ranking (as long as it's in the top 12) gets an automatic invite to one of the big bowls. The three ranked Mountain West teams, BYU, Utah, and TCU all have an edge over Ball State, as they are currently ranked higher in the BCS standings. Ball State, however, has the easiest road to an undefeated regular season since they play in the weaker MAC. Tonight they destroyed Northern Illinois to push their record to 9-0, which should improve their BCS ranking (currently 17th). Rest of article at the Muffin!

I know it's waaay too premature to give up on a team already in this early NBA season, but it really looks like the Spurs will struggle mightily without star Manu Ginobili, who is expected to be out with an ankle injury until at least mid-December. The Spurs have started out 0-3 with 2 of those losses coming at home. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker have both been solid during this start, but they really don't have anyone else they can rely on to score. Michael Finley, Kurt Thomas and Bruce Bowen are just plain old. I'm talking John McCain old. See rest of article at the Muffin!

Last season the Grizzlies were absolutely ripped by most media members and fans for trading Pau Gasol to the Lakers for Jarvis Crittenton, Kwame Brown, Aaron Mckie, and Marc Gasol. Many believed that the Grizzles basically bent over for Laker GM Mitch Kupchak by giving away their best player for the raw Crittenton and uninspiring Brown. It is becoming clearer now that this trade may end up being more even than we initially thought. Marc Gasol (Pau's younger brother) went off for the Grizz tonight as he scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a win over the Golden State Warriors. Rest of article at the Muffin!

Over here at the Muffin we decided, why not try to combine the two things men love most, sports and sex. Admit it, wouldn't you want to see your favorite athletes bear it all in HD on your big screen TV? We've come up with the best combinations of athletes, announcers, referees, and sports bloggers who we'd like to see doin the nasty. So get the popcorn ready and the hand lotion out, cause we got combos for every genre. Sidney Crosby and Dara Torres: Youth meets age with this attractive duo. After a listless effort in their opener, the Portland Trailblazers won a nailbiter at home against a tough San Antonio Spurs team on Friday night. The Blazers are loaded with rookie of the year candidates as many picked Greg Oden to win the award heading into the season. Rookie Spaniard Rudy Fernandez has been another trendy pick after his solid performance against Team USA in the Olympic gold medal matchup. A few even thought that maybe Jerryd Bayless could potentially surprise some people this season as he was the summer league MVP. After watching this evenings game against the Spurs, however, I think I'm going to pick the Frenchman Nicolas Batum as my ROY favorite. Read rest of the article at the Muffin!

Greg Oden has done a lot of things since he has become a famous basketball player. Unfortunately that doesn't include actually playing basketball. The Muffin has come up with a list of things Oden has more of than games played for the Blazers. 1) Wrinkles on his forehead-The dude looks like a pug in this picture. 2) Blogs on Yardbarker-Keep em coming Greg! 3) Pictures with drunk college chicks on the internet-Love these pictures, makes me envious.

The past few years many around the NHL have considered the San Jose Sharks to be the most talented team in the NHL. Sports Illustrated picked them to win the Stanley Cup in their preview issue last year. Despite this talent they have consistently come up short in the playoffs and former coach Ron Wilson finally got the axe because of it.

The season opener for the Portland Trailblazers could not have gone any worse for the young up and coming team. The Lakers absolutely dominated most of the game and cruised to a 20 point victory. To top it off Greg Oden's long awaited NBA debut ended prematurely when he didn't come out of the locker room at halftime because of a foot injury. Rest of article at the Sportsmuffin!

Yeah the Rays are down 3 games to 1 in the World Series. Yeah they're tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning in a hostile Philadelphia environment against a Phillie team with a better bullpen. Yeah the Rays can't hit their way out of a brown paper bag, but dammit they're going to win the World Series and here's why. Rest of article at the Muffin!
