LIST: Top 5 College Running Back

It's only 5 weeks into this season but this is how I see the rankings. Given i'm not an expert and every man has his opinion so this is my list. Honorable mentions: CJ Spiller, Clemson. Averages 6 yards a carry and returns kicks. Glen Coffee, Alabama. Defintion of finisher as far as running backs are concerned. Jacquizz Rogers, Oregon State. Had 186 yards and 2 touchdowns against a stacked USC defense. Shun White, Navy. Third in the nation in rushing yards with 693 and only has 74 touches. Averaging 9.4 yards per carry this season and for his career he averages 9 yards a carry. I'm glad he is serving our country but too bad he is in the Navy and won't be seeing a NFL field anytime soon.

Lane Kiffin To Be Fired

We all saw it coming. It was only a matter of time. Sources have indicated that Lane Kiffin is to be fired as early as Monday. As Kiffin watched the kick from the Bills kicker Rian Lindell , do you think he knew he was finished?

His team allowed 17 points in the final 8 minutes. And as it turned out, those were his last 8 minutes as the Raiders head coach. The Raiders are the most disfunctional team in the NFL. As to be expected when you have the "walking dead' in Al Davis calling the shots.

I can't recall any mid-season coaching change resulting in anything else then failure still. I don't understand how it helps at all except for giving someone in the organiztion a chance to get some head coaching experience under their belt. Switching head coaches can just be as bad as switching offensive coorinators, which Alex Smith can attest because he has had 4 in 4 years , does not help you out as a player at all.

I could be wrong but like I have said I don't know why organizations still like to fire head coaches because I don't think it results in anything other then failure. If anyone has any examples of it actually in resulting sucess i'd like to hear it. I'm talking NFL mid-season coaching changes just to specify.

Total Domination Not Enough?

We all know coming nack from Tommy John surgery can change a pitcher. For good or bad. Being out of the game an entire year has to throw your game off. You'd be lying if you said it didn't. Such is the case with the Twin City pitcher Franciso Liriano.

He baffled batters in 05-06 most of the season till it was decided that the elbow was too much of a problem and he would require surgery. Sat out all year last year as required for the rehab time of this type of surgery. Came back this season not quite himself. Through the first three games he started he had a 0-3 record and posted a 11.32 ERA. The front office decided quickly to send him to the minors to get his sutff working again.

Now this isn't uncommon to send someone down to get their confidence back. Earlier this year the Tigers sent LHP Dontrelle Willis to Single- A to work on his mechanics. The resluts of both these pitchers are at total different ends of the spectrum. Willis in five games has a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 4.22. Liriano however is a total of 9-3, 8 of his wins in the last 9 starts, and an ERA of 3.30. In his last five starts he is 5-0 and has allowed one earned one in 35 innings. Now it is a guy who was in the running for the Cy Young two years back dominating guys from Triple A but those guys are still pros and are just a single step from making it to the show.

I don't know why he hasn't been called up to help the Twins in the AL Central race. He wouldn't be as dominate but give him a few starts and he would adjust back to the standard of facing big league hitters. Now his agent did ask the players union to investigate why they haven't called him up, which who knows if they find anything. Doubt they do so I don't think it has anything to do with Liriano's ineligible for salary arbitration this winter if he stays in the minors, which the Twins deny. They also have noted that their young rotation is doing quite well and don't have a spot for Liriano to go besides the bullpen. That makes sense but I think Liriano is a legitimate help to get the to the post season and they need him. But that's why those guys in the front office get paid the big bucks and I don't.

Any one else got thoughts about this?

New and Some Feel Good Storys

I just found yb and I don't remember how but it's pretty sick here. I really like the idea of blogging. I've always been taught by my mom that at the end of the day it helps to put your thoughts in front of you to clear your head. Besides I love sports so I really dig the idea of a sports blogging site. Everybody and anybody can be a blogger these day. But you got to have that special something that makes someone want to read your blog. Kind of like meeting new people. When you meet new people, you really want to leave them and have them think "man that guy was really cool and down to earth". Make them remember you. But in a good way. You don't want to known for being the cheap date so to speak. So this thing below me has point number 3. make a point. Like I said I just like to put my thoughts and feelings in front of me but I don't know how to get people to read this thing? I could talk about sports I suppose since this would be the site to do it. Well I just watch the ESPYs today and they had a segment about feel good storys and such. One that got to me was Kevin Everett. Man that guy is a total inspiration. Just to see that guy standing there that day before all those people and to think about how far he has come made me happy for him. And it's not just the comebacks that make a great feel good story either. Maybe you see an athlete do some good for someone. I'm not talking about camps and such(which i'm not attacking cause those are awesome too). I'm talking about athletes and/or famous people in general helping people who aren't in as fortunate as them. This brings me to two storys that come to mind.. 1. I was reading a blog of The Shutdown Corner off of Yahoo! Sports and it was talking about T.O. helping a guy out who got hit by a car. It was some sports writer for ESPN I guess. But he siad T.O. didn't leave his side the whole time. He said he helped him get to the curb and stayed there till the paramedics came. He didn't even stick around for the credit. The write said that he hopes it makes people realize that he isn't as bad as the media makes him to be. Now i've always been a fan of Owens and I know he gets crazy and stupid with the calling out of his quarterback and all the other distractions he pulls but this was a good honest deed he did and people should take notice of that. 2. This last one really touched me. It's about one of my favortie rappers Plies. He was on a radio show just doing an interview. And for a little back story to this guy, his brother is incarcerated for like 3 years or something like that and he knows how it is to have someone that you love and care about locked up. He knows how it is to be down on your luck. So he has been where some of us have been too so he is always willing to help. He once gave some lady at his concert $1000 to go bail her boyfriend out of jail. He's real man i'm telliin you. Anyways on this radio show they just played his song somebody loves you and it's a touching song no doubt about it. They start taking phone calls after this song plays and this lady calls in crying sayin how that song just touched her and how even though she lost her job, husband went to jail, going to get kicked out of her house that she felt that song and wanted to let him know that and she wants them to pray for her cause she ws heading to a job interview. Well Plies asks her for her info so he can meet her after her interview and give her some money. She starts balling and then all the guys in the radio station starts crying. It was ridiculous. It seriously brought tears to my eyes. He is a real guy and it's just not seen alot in famous people. Well I don't know if I made a point but it was fun and i'll definetly will be back. Till next time i'm out. Peace!
