reading this over my morning coffee found it pretty interesting, same age as my son, my son plays basketball too but i don't know that i'd allow this, got any thoughts? Kentucky men's coach Billy Gillispie offered a scholarship to an eighth-grader last week and a ninth-grader on Monday, but Gillispie, who is trying to restore a storied program's luster, says there is no need for concern. "I don't think it will become commonplace for eighth-graders to commit to schools, but I think there are certain exceptions," Gillispie says. "There are certain players, certain students, certain musicians where they know what they want at a very early age. But I understand there are people who see negatives as well." "I find the practice appalling, quite frankly," said Brit Kirwan, chancellor of the University of Maryland system and co-chair of the Knight Commission, which urges reform in college athletics. "I certainly hope the NCAA will step in and put a stop to it. I certainly will voice my objection to (NCAA President) Myles Brand and others at the NCAA." click the the link to further read he's listed on rivals.com too here's the link: http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=910&CID=803673

Pat Tillman was a heroic face of the war on terror - an NFL star who left behind a $3.6 million contract and his new wife to fight for his country after the attacks of Sept. 11. When he died in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, the Army told his family he'd been killed by enemy fire after courageously charging up a hill to protect his fellow Army Rangers. But as Katie Couric reports, that story didn't hold up. He had really been killed by friendly fire, shot accidentally by his fellow soldiers. For the past four years, his family, led by his mother Mary, has been searching for answers about what really happened, beginning the day she heard the news from Pat Tillman's wife Marie. We watched this interview last night and i thought i'd blog it up in case anyone wants to read it. a video comes with it to, if you watched 60 minutes you know it was pretty thought provoking.

for anyone whos ever juiced or thought about it, forget about it. perfect way to kill your organs and give you a quick exit to the headstone. this "man" is prime examply of why you shouldn't. One day last week, David Jacobs took out two measuring cups, put a pot on the stove at his home here and demonstrated how he used to turn raw powder into steroids. Jacobs last month in the kitchen he used to make steroids in. For more than a year, Jacobs operated a makeshift pharmaceutical lab out of his kitchen in his one-story suburban home. Each month, he said, he sold about a thousand of his own bottles of steroids and another thousand kits of human growth hormone smuggled from China to dealers across the United States. Among the dealers he supplied were two N.F.L. players, Jacobs said, who would then supply a handful of other N.F.L. players with the banned substances. Jacobs's business as one of the largest steroid producers in Texas came to a halt in April 2007 when federal agents raided his home and confiscated thousands of units of steroids. Later, as part of Operation Raw Deal, a nationwide investigation of the importation and distribution of performance-enhancing drugs, he pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute anabolic steroids. On Thursday in Sherman, Tex., Jacobs was sentenced to three years of probation. he should have gotten more time, check it

readin this over my lunch thought i'd share knuckle up Fans of all shapes and sizes have migrated to the sport and some of MMA's biggest fans are athletes from other sports. One of those fans happens to be former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Marcus Jones. He was so passionate about MMA that soon after walking away from the NFL in 2002, Jones decided to satisfy his competitive itch by taking up MMA. Jones first started giving MMA serious consideration after meeting MMA instructor Rob Kahn at a Tampa-area restaurant. Kahn is the proprietor and head instructor of a Royce Gracie affiliate school in Tampa, which is responsible for having its students cast for the past three seasons of the UFC's reality television show The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. Despite a late start in MMA, Jones is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Alan Berubie, Matt Arroyo, and Brandon Sene, the three students of Kahn's that have been featured on TUF. Jones did not immediately enroll at Kahn's school after their initial meeting, but having already been a big MMA fan, the idea of being a participant in addition to observer began to ferment. It wasn't until being taken down to the ground while sparring with a friend on vacation that the former North Carolina Tar Heel decided to take matters into his own hands. 2 page article good read though

Although the UFC has made no formal announcement, MMAWeekly.com was able to confirm that James Irvin has agreed to step in and face Evans on June 7 in London in Liddell's absence. Sources close to both fighters' camps acknowledged the bout. Irvin competed recently at the April 2 event in Broomfield, Colo., which makes for a quick return by UFC standards. His bout with Houston Alexander lasted just eight seconds though, leaving Irvin tied with Don Frye for the quickest knockout in UFC history. Following an impressive knockout of Sean Salmon little more than a year ago, Evans enters the bout coming off of a frustrating draw with former UFC champion Tito Ortiz and then a split decision over Michael Bisping. Neither Evans nor Irvin were available for comment at the time of publication.

The match drew more interest throughout the country of Canada than any match in UFC history. There were more than 120 credentialed media for the fight, and more than 1,000 bars and restaurants across the country ordered the fight, believed to break a record set in 2002 by the Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson boxing match.

fight was off the hook , we got home in time to catch it. hope the next fight between these two is in veags i'm ready for a vacation man, knuckle up Antonio Margarito isn't the best welterweight in the world, but he's moving in on the top spot. The massive Mexican welterweight delivered a brutal beatdown to Kermit Cintron on Saturday at Boardwalk Hall, not only lifting the IBF belt from his bitter rival but sending a loud and clear message to the remainder of a stacked division. Margarito, who stopped Cintron in the fifth round of a WBO title fight in 2005, was even more impressive on Saturday. He raked Cintron with a combination of punches that left Cintron defenseless by the time the sixth round began. Margarito ended it with a classic left hook to the body, which sent Cintron crumpling into a heap along the ropes. As Cintron lay on all fours, briefly kicking his feet, Margarito stood and mocked in the neutral corner, urging him to get up.
