Curt Schilling Tech Interview

I was able to interview Curt Schilling just before he headed to spring training with the Red Sox. My interview touched on his tech interest rather than his sports life. This is a good interview for the fans and those who are interested in seeing an athlete talk some tech.

Tomas Plekanec - Rising Star

Tomas Plekanec, (rising) star forward for the Montreal Canadiens is enjoying a break out year in 2008. Being a Canadiens fan I have been expecting this, having seen him play a few years now. The rest of the league is now catching up to what us Habs fans have known all along.

Sydney Crosby: The early years

Sweet video of THE KID! This video shows some of his early years. If you think he looks young now, watch the video. He has been in the media in Canada for a long time now, well before he played any pro or even junior hockey.

NHL GM's Not Cap Savvy Enough

So how do NHL clubs remedy this? Find "capologists". Business smart executives who know how to and have experience working in a cap system. They don't have to be hockey people, bring in executives from the NBA, the NFL. If you look within these leagues you are bound to find some young hotshots with smarts looking to move up in the sports world. In the new NHL, you cannot simply have one guy. Your GM needs to bring in other people who have a strong say on the business impacts of making certain trades and signings.

Increased Scoring

Rumours are still abound that the NHL is looking at possible tweaks to increase scoring. The most likely candidate as far as next steps is to re-enforce and re-look at the size of goalie equipment. We've gone down this road once before haven't we? It seems like no matter what the NHL gets into, they approach it like a fad diet. One minute they are all for it and enforcing it, the next it is completely forgotten.

No Trade & No Movement Clauses

So in listening to and watching various NHL related shows on both TV and radio I have come to learn a thing or two about no trade clauses in the NHL. The first thing I learned is that there are lots of current players in the NHL who have them, perhaps as many as a 100 or more. The second thing I have learned is that there are at least two variations of the clause (there coud be more), those being the standard no trade clause and the other being the no movement clause.

What is wrong with the NHL?

First let me start off by saying I am a huge, passionate, NHL hockey fan. But keep in mind I do still realize it has its problems. What are some of the changes I would like to see?

NHL on Facebook

Unless you have been living under a rock, you already know about Facebook. Chances are you either love it or hate it, or just don't understand it.

One item it is good for though is bringing together people with a common interest. A common interest like hockey, and discussing your favourite team(s). The only problem is finding the groups that are most active for your team.

Well look no further...

Foote threatened Blue Jackets?

"According to numerous NHL sources, Foote threatened to be "a bad teammate, a bad captain and a bad player" the rest of the season if he weren't re-signed or traded to his preferred destination â€" the Colorado Avalanche, where his best NHL years were spent."
