Tony Stewart in '10?

Would it surprise me if Stewart would like to drive a Chevy again? No. He has close ties -- and we're talking sponsorship of his sprint-and-midget teams -- with GM. But the bottom line? Stewart likes to go fast. The Toyota he's driving goes fast. It's going to keep going fast. Is it a situation where, like the old westerns, "this town ain't big enough for the three of us"?

TAL-uh-DEE-guh and other fun facts

Talladega has, hands down, what is NASCAR's rowdiest infield. Once upon a time, it was Darlington on Labor Day. Nowadays, Darlington is on Mother's Day Weekend. That's a real bummer for a party. Sorry, Mom. A bit of advice to those planning to visit the Talladega infield for the first time: Don't accept beads from a stranger unless you know what that means.

Back-of-the-pack Phoenix finish won't help Elliott Sadler's ailing back

With the excruciating pain apparently behind him, Sadler, who turns 33 on April 30, has to get to work improving on his 23rd-place ranking in the Sprint Cup standings.

Johnson and Knaus show cool hand and sound command

Say what you will about the ending of Saturday night's Subway Fresh Fit 500 - actually, by then it was technically Sunday morning here - but it was exciting. There's a bewildering anarchy about trying to keep up with who pitted and who didn't, who ran out of gas and who didn't, who looks like he's going to win and doesn't, and who doesn't look like he's going to win and does.

Best stretch of NASCAR season coming soon

NASCAR is coming home during the righteous period that runs from now through Memorial Day weekend.

Jimmie Johnson rises, Phoneix-like

When Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line first in the Subway Fresh Fit 500, at Phoenix International Raceway, in what were the wee hours back east, it ended a night of wishful thinking.

The Nationwide quandary

The Nationwide Series is like health care. Everyone realizes there's a problem. No one knows what to do about it.

Safe, but sound? NASCAR's new car remains controversial

The Car of Tomorrow has proved to be a safer vehicle, but is it really better for the sport of racing?

NASCAR out-racing the economy

NASCAR television ratings are up. Attendance is down. This makes perfect sense.

NASCAR Burning Issues

Rookie MIchael McDowell --driving a Toyota, no less -- gets heat for blocking Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton at Martinsville ... This and other burning issues from the NASCAR front.

Burton wins Bristol ... with subtlety

The winner at Bristol Motor Speedway isn't always the lion who devours the most antelopes, the viper with the most venom or the shark with the sharpest teeth. Sometimes what it takes is good sense, which is Jeff Burton's field of expertise.
