Corey Dillon's Career Over

Corey Dillon yesterday confirmed that there is no chance at all he will play football again. This is somewhat surprising, as Dillon showed last year he still had something in the tank and there are a number of NFL teams who could benefit from his services this year. But Dillon has said no thanks and will stay retired.

Did Indy Draft the Next T.O.?

PFW reports the Colts are very intrigued by '07 fifth-round pick WR Roy Hall, who boasts some pretty amazing qualities: size (6-foot-3), speed (4.35 40-time) and strength (240 chiseled pounds).

Fantasy Take: This guy is buried deep beneath Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez. But if he can play, why wouldn't the Colts find a way to get him on the field, especially in the red zone? He's a waiver wire pickup to monitor in single season leagues and a wonderful long-term investment in keeper leagues, assuming he comes as cheap as he should in your draft or auction.

Joey Harrington to Start for Falcons this Year?

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports Atlanta Falcons No. 2 QB Joey Harrington is ready to take over if starting QB Michael Vick (indicted on dogfighting activities) is unable to play. It would be the second consecutive year that Harrington was signed as a backup and thrust into a starting lineup.

According to the article, Harrington's had some good therapy to help him through his scarring early NFL experiences (not kidding).

Chiefs Columnist: Larry Johnson Won't Play for Chiefs this Year

Warpaint columnist C.E. Wendler says all signs indicate that Larry Johnson's days in K.C. are over. Scary stuff for Chiefs fans and fantasy owners of Johnson. This is the worst case scenario, but Wendler makes a case that the Chiefs simply can't afford to pay Johnson what he wants, which will result in a holdout and/or trade. Still think there's any question who you'd rather have between Steven Jackson and Larry Johnson in your fantasy draft this year? Johnson doesn't merit being in the Top 5 or even Top 10 until this situation is resolved.

Jake Plummer Not Coming Out of Retirement, According to Coach

Jake Plummer's high school coach says Plummer told him recently he is definitely retired and has no interest in the grind of going to Tampa Bay's camp to compete with Jeff Garcia for the starting job.

Fantasy Take:

If this is true, you can take Plummer off your draft board, unless you want to "Ricky Williams" or " Vinny Testaverde" it with him in a keeper league in the hopes of him changing his mind this year or next. This report also boosts the value of clear-cut starter Jeff Garcia, as well as Bruce Gradkowski and Chris Simms, who will have a clearer path to the field without the more experienced Plummer in the picture

Brandon Stokley: Cutler the New Peyton Manning?

WR Brandon Stokley cites multiple parallels between Jay Cutler and Peyton Manning, based on his experience playing with both.

TE Leonard Pope to Lose Arizona Starting Job?

Second-year TE Leonard Pope, a monstrous target for Matt Leinert and possible breakout player in 2007 according to some publications, may not even be the starter this year, according to Pro Football Weekly. Troy Bienemann is "a much smoother looking player who has shown surprisingly good hands this offseason" according to PFW.

Santana Moss Has Lingering Hamstring Issues

PFW reports Santana Moss seems poised to bounce back to his 2005 numbers (1,400 yds, 9 tds), given the brightening prospects of Washington's offense, but a lingering hamstring issue in June, when most players are at the peak of their health, does not exactly bode well for this year.

Fantasy Take:

Moss is a solid No. 2 fantasy WR when healthy. Monitor his hamstring in camp. If the issue lingers, I'd let someone else overvalue him before you do, as hamstring problems can linger all season long if he doesn't get 100 percent healthy over the summer and the Skins will have a run-first mentality w/Betts and Portis and a relatively young QB in Jason Campbell.

Rod Smith May Be Cut by Broncos

With Broncos WR Brandon Stokley ahead of schedule to return from surgery and the coaching staff excited about second-year WR Domenik Hixon, PFW reports that Rod Smith may not make it out of camp.

It's always sad to see such a tremendous athlete go out with a whimper instead of a bang. If this happens, look for Rod Smith to catch on with a team that doesn't have the Broncos amazing talent at WR, assuming he doesn't decide to just hang it up. Keep an eye on Hixon in camp, as Shanahan is one of the best guys in the league at mining unknown talent. Javon Walker remains a Top 15 WR with Brandon Marshall a top 40 WR who is rapidly emerging as Cutler's future No. 1 target with Stokley playing the role of Ricky Proehl, the guy you hate to waste a roster spot on but who actually might produce a handful of TDs from inside the red zone and be a good FA spot starter during the season.

James Harrison A Significant Part of Browns Offense this Year

There's a sense James Harrison will be a significant part of Rob Chudzinski's new offense. The running back from Washington State is a solid 212 pounds, and he had a solid preseason a year ago. But the Browns backed off him early in the season. He seems back in favor now.

Anybody else thinking it might be a good idea to snag Jamal Lewis' backup in Cleveland? And Harrison can play.

Chris Chambers Passed Breathalyzer During Alleged DUI

Chris Chambers passed a breathalyzer administered at the station during his DUI arrest. Anybody else smell racial profiling?

It's looking more like Chambers will keep his record squeaky clean. In the video link alongside the article, Chambers talks about how Miami's offense reminds him of Norv Turner's, featuring a vertical passing attack. He may not miss a game over this and could have a very strong season.

Buy Low in Fantasy Football. How Low? Chris Simms Low! Chris Henry Low! Ricky Williams Low?

Here are some guys everyone in your fantasy league is down on, perhaps making this a perfect time to consider going after them. Especially in keeper leagues.

Vernon Davis Looking Like Key Feature of SF Offense in 2007

Pro Football Weekly is the latest among many publications to report that Alex Smith is as comfortable as he's ever looked in this new Niners offense, which will feature lots of underneath looks to Vernon Davis.

This just adds to the evidence that Davis might be poised for a tremendous season.

Simms Falls to No. 3 in Tampa Bay. Garcia Starting, Gradkowski No. 2

Pro Football Weekly reports Jeff Garcia currently holds the starting QB job in Tampa Bay and Chris Simms has fallen behind Gradkowski on the depth chart, due to poor throwing habits in the wake of rupturing his spleen.

Tarvaris Jackson Still the Starter But Unimpressive in Minicamp

Pro Football Weekly reports Tarvaris Jackson looks like he's in for a rough beginning of the season, based on his mini camp performance in which he looked flustered and uncomfortable with the offense. He remains the favorite to start but will be forced to work out some of his problems under fire.
