The Cleveland Indians have called up both Jensen Lewis and Brian Slocum after last night's marathon game in Buffalo. The moves will be made today to shore up their a struggling bullpen. As mentioned yesterday, Rick Bauer will be designated for assignment, and it's also believed that Joe Borowski will be, well, moved somewhere. It's my guess that there's being every effort made to move Borowski in a minor trade, so that the Indians wouldn't be responsible for the two million still owed the reliever. If not, look for Borowski to join Bauer in the DFA category. The only question left is whether or not there is a move we haven't been appraised of yet. Surely anything is possible at this point, after the Indians front office and field coaches met in Minneapolis to discuss the Tribe future. The moves will be made official before the game today against Minnesota. There were some hints about the moves coming out of Buffalo, and the transaction reports late Thursday night.

The Indians brass, led by Mark Shapiro, Chris Antonelli and Eric Wedge met in Minneapolis today to discuss immediate and future changes to the Tribe lineup. As previously noted here at Tribe Report, the Indians will immediately address the bullpen. The first move will be Joe Borowski's removal as Tribe closer. It's not known whether or not he will be moved out of the roll and into the pen, or if he will be outright released. It's believed that the Indians are in the midst of trying to trade him, and won't announce anything in regards to where Borowski ends up until the official moves are made before tomorrow night's ballgame against the Twins.

Dominican phenom Edward Salcedo has been on the Indians' radar for over a year. As mentioned here many times before, Salcedo has become nearly as mythical as the now infamous Sidd Finch. If you don't remember Finch, he was Sports Illustrated's April Fool's joke circa 1985. Finch was reputed to throw 168 MPH, and set the nation on fire trying to find out who the eccentric pitcher really was. Of course, it was just a joke, but the mythos lives on. Now, Indians' followers are trying to figure out if the Edward Salcedo mythos is real, or just a joke, propagated by an agent looking to make a whole bunch of money.

Casey Blake hit a two-run double to spark a six-run Indians' seventh inning, as the Cleveland Indians and C.C. Sabathia defeated the Toronto Blue Jays and Roy Halladay 6-1 in Cleveland Friday night. The Indians offense was sputtering in an all-to-familiar rut against Halladay, when Blake finally woke up the Tribe bats. Cleveland had managed only three hits entering the seventh inning. That ended quickly when Travis Hafner and Ryan Garko led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Visibly flustered, Halladay then walked struggling Asdrubal Cabrera on four straight pitches to load the bases. Blake then broke the camel's back with a double that scored both Hafner and Jamey Carroll, who was pinch-running for Garko. The double ended Halladay's night, but not the Indians' scoring.

Paul Byrd gave up three home runs in 6 2/3, and Masa Kobayashi gave up another in relief, as the New York Yankees avoided the sweep Thursday afternoon to defeat the Cleveland Indians 6-3 at Yankee Stadium. Byrd was gliding along the first three innings of the game, having faced the Yankee minimum of nine batters, and only giving up a second inning single that was wiped out by an inning-ending double play. Things changed dramatically in the fourth inning, when Yankees' centerfielder Johnny Damon led off the inning by taking a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall. Byrd gave up a single to Derek Jeter in the next at-bat, but he seemed to right the ship a bit when he forced Bobby Abreu into a double play. The Yankees remained persistent though, as Hideki Matsui hit a two-out single, and Jason Giambi put the finishing touches on the three-run inning with a home run that curled around the right field foul poll into the upper deck. It was Giambi's sixth home run, three of which he's hit off of Byrd this season.

The Cleveland Indians mustered up a grand total of four hits against Kansas City's relative no-names, Luke Hochevar, Ron Mahay, Ramon Ramirez, Joakim Soria, as the Royals defeated the hapless Indians, 4-2 in Cleveland on Saturday Night. The Royals finally got to C.C. Sabathia in the seventh inning, after the 2007 Cy Young winner threw six shut-out innings. Even Sabathia couldn't overcome the mockery called the Indians' offense.

Jeremy Sowers showed the Tribe brass that he's got the pitching make-up to start for the big league club. Less than a week after making a solid start against the Yankees pitching for the Tribe, Sowers came up with another gem against the AAA Charlotte Knights on Thursday night. Sowers went seven innings, giving up five hits, four walks and an earned run, while striking out six in getting his first victory of the 2008 season for Buffalo.

The Cleveland Indians had overcome an anemic offensive performance and a Rafael Betancourt 8th inning implosion to take a 4-2 lead with a 9th inning rally led by a returning Victor Martinez. Joe Borowski gave it all back after two walks and a single loaded the bases, for Torii Hunter, who blasted a grand slam to give the Angels a 6-4 victory. Hunter had also hit a homer off of Betancourt in the 8th to give the Angels a 2-1 lead that seemed to be as sure a lead as any against an Indians offense that had scored 8 runs in the previous 5 games up to that point.

Fausto Carmona answered a lot of question on Wednesday night, as he electrified the crowd at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Carmona went 7 innings, giving up only 4 hits, 1 run and 4 K's in the Indians' 7-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. The only real blemish in this outing for the Indians ace-in-waiting were his 4 walks. If you were to ask the White Sox hitters, however, I doubt they'd remember much about the walks. Carmona really had the sinker working, forcing 16 out of 21 ground outs, including three double play balls. It was typical Carmona.

Casey Blake is about as clutch as Albert Belle was sane, just ask the stats. Blake hit a grand total of .190 last year with runners in scoring position, and .250 with the bases loaded last year. So when he strolled up to the plate in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs in a 7-7 ballgame, the numbers were working against him. Thankfully, baseball isn't just about the numbers.

Today, the Cleveland Indians play the Chicago White Sox at 3:05 ET, if the baseball gods can stop the rain. Of course, now that I said that, they probably will stop the rain, and start the snow. The Indians begin defense of the Central division crown against the White Sox, who fell into the depths of hell last season, after winning the world series in 2005. The Sox are an aging group, who still have sting. If not on the field, than from the most annoying manager in baseball, Ozzie Guillen. Still, he can motivate his ballplayers, and there's no doubt he has a chip on his shoulder for the Tribe.

There are high expectations in Cleveland for the team that came one game…one game…one game away from the World Series. Without making any moves in the offseason, other than to bolster an already good bullpen, Cleveland looks to improve on last year with the same squad. There's no reason this team shouldn't win.

The Toronto Blue Jays are a good baseball team. Don't take my word for it, just look at the facts. In 2005, the Blue Jays went 80-82, and finished third in the division. In 2006, the Jays improved to 87-75, and finished 2nd to the Yankees, ahead of the Red Sox. It seemed as though the Jays were about to take the next step. In 2007, the Jays took a bit of a step back, falling back to third place at 83-79. Still, there's a feeling in the air that the Blue Jays may be on the precipice of something better.

In 2007, the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox played an epic ALCS. If you are an Indians fan, it was much more epic for the Red Sox, who came back from a 3-1 series deficit to beat the Tribe 4-3. It wasn't by accident. The Red Sox were and are a team of grizzled veteran superstars, laced with young, homegrown talent from one of the deepest minor league systems in all of baseball. Much like the Indians, the Boston Red Sox failed to make a major move during the offseason. Of course, when you are the defending world champions with arguably the best offense and pitching in baseball, what moves needs to be made?
