"PHILADELPHIA --
Geoff Jenkins helped win a game for the Phillies by striking out in a wild 4-3 decision over the Astros on Tuesday night.
The right-fielder reached first when the ball got past
Brad Ausmus in the ninth inning.
Pedro Feliz then doubled into the left-field corner, his third hit of the game, and Jenkins raced around from first and was called safe on a close play at home by umpire Bill Miller.
Closer
Jose Valverde began the ninth taking over for
Shawn Chacon, who had allowed four hits in eight scoreless innings.
Chris Snelling launched the first pitch to right field for a home run.
Chase Utley was then hit by a pitch, and then scored on
Pat Burrell's game-tying home run.
Rudy Seanez won the game in relief for Philadelphia, while
Adam Eaton earned another no-decision despite pitching well for a third straight start.
Before the ninth, the Phillies ran into a better pitcher in Chacon, who blanked them on four hits in eight innings."
This game was very frustrating to watch for the first 8 innings. We scattered very few hits and were very ineffective offensively. Heading into the ninth down 3-0, I thought for sure we were done. However, the Phillies showed their heart! Burrell hit the tying home run to the OPPOSITE FIELD!!! (how often does he go deep the other way?)
The call at the plate was very close, and I personally thought Jenkins was out. A better replay view made it look even closer. Either way, it's about time we had a call go our way!
This is the type of game that makes you think of our great season last year... bring on the goosebumps!
