Today the Philadelphia Eagles released J.R. Reed whose special teams fumble on a punt return played a major role in the loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, and said welcome back to special teams specialist Reno Mahe. I thought J.R. Reed had potential as a safety in the NFL, unfortunately for him and the team his critical fumble cost him his roster spot. Reno on the other hand is known for his waving to the officials while some fans refer to him as 'Fair Catch' Mahe, that was just what the team was missing this past Sunday. He does not have the explosive potential of J.R. Reed, but will certainly not be caught trying too hard to make something out of nothing, and only has one career fumble in the return game. I wouldn't have been surprised if they gave Reed one more chance, but it is a what have you done for me lately league, and this move doesn't surprise me at all.

Looks like the Pats got their hands caught in the cookie jar on this one from Espn: "The rule is that no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game," the league said in a statement from spokesman Greg Aiello. "Clubs have specifically been reminded in the past that the videotaping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals on the sidelines is prohibited." The best way to win is to cheat alright. Sounds like trouble to me if they 'prove' this to be the case in the Goodell era.

The Eagles have answered my question about the defensive lines rotational scheme with the signing of DT Kimo von Oelhoffen. 14-year NFL vet Von Oelhoffen was released by the New York Jets on Saturday. Actually wanted this signing a couple seasons ago to fill in this missing hole of big bodied DT Hollis Thomas. Hopefully, Kimo can play into the rotation and help against the run.

During the Eagles @ Steelers (13-27) Sunday night pre-season game Andrea Kremer reported that released MLB Jeremiah Trotter was not offered a back-up role. He said that he was told his options were to be released or retire, and that he most likely would have declined a spot on the bench had the organization offered. As the story develops, if Trotter can only land a team as a back up, then perhaps 'most likely' meant he would have slept on it and been upset but still remained an Eagle. However, if he is forced to retire instead, then the seemingly shrewed move will only go down as yet another action of good foresight by the Eagles organization.

Sam Rayburn and Darwin Walker are gone, Montae Reagor and Ian Scott are in, or are they? Reagor has the nod to play in the Steelers preseason game but the question is will he bounce back from the car accident that led him to miss the colts Super Bowl run. Meanwhile I haven't heard much of anything about X bears DT Ian Scott and LaJuan Ramsey is still sidelined with a high ankle sprain. While Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley are listed as the 1st team starters, Jim Johnson is known for depth at the defensive line giving him the ability to rotate the entire front 4. So who is going to make the cut here? Or will JJ have to sacrifice his 4 man rotational style again?

Looks like the Bars closed on Vick, as his alleged conspirators enter pleas in exchange for testimony against him. This means that either he did bank roll the dog fighting operation, or that this case has just become about getting the big fish. No matter what, it is safe to say he is not in a good position from a legal perspective.

Woods is unbeatable when he goes into the final round of a major with the lead, this victory being the 12th of that fashion. The win also comes off of winning the Bridgestone Invitational just a week ago. Today Tiger Woods gets his 13th major championship title and fourth career PGA win leaving him only 5 back of Jack Nicklaus.

This is the position battle no one is talking about. Some NFL experts will tell you that it is no longer an important roster position, however, I think a RB & FB pair like LT & Lorenzo Neal would argue the contrary. The loss of blocking FB Jon Ritchie was a huge blow to the Eagles offense as he was willing to sacrifice his body on every down leaving large shoes to fill. Both Jason Davis & Thomas Tapeh have rebounded from being listed on IR, but Tapeh has 16 games played last season to tuck under his belt. The reality of a position battle would suggest to me that while Davis may not be the favorite, he has at least closed the gap on Tapeh. I'm not sure yet so I'll be watching how both these guys block closely during the pre-season. Who do you think will be the guy to buy Donovan that extra second in the pocket?

Tiger woods wins the Bridgestone Invitational and dusted the competition by 8 strokes. This is his 1st victory since being blessed with his first child and in just the right time to silence his critics. Even the casual golf observer has to take notice that Tiger Woods is one of the greatest athletes in his generation.

How is it that he gets trick of the day but not 1st place with back to back 900's in the vert finals in X games 13. Jamie Bestwick, who placed first did land back to back 540 tail whips in his winning run, but I think Simon got robbed by the judges on this one. I'd like to update with video links as they become available.

As the 2006 Texas Bowl Champion Rutgers Scarlet Knights move toward another college season, they are currently ranked 16 among USA todays coaches polls. Head Coach Greg Schiano will likely continue to encourage his players to keep "chopping" away and a larger part of that chopping axe is Heisman Trophy hopefull Raymell Rice. He was a major component in the famous upset against Louisville at home aired on ESPN last season, setting the tone for a dramatic late season Big East away game this year. In the 2006 season Rice finished 2nd in the nation clocking 1,794 rushing yards. The St.Louis Rams selected RB Brian Leonard in the 2nd round leaving Rice with the responsibility of carrying the offense to another winning season. Will Rice break 2,000 yards rushing? What will it take to bring a Heisman Trophy back to the RU fans of NJ?

"Strahan's holdout has Giants looking elsewhere" says Adam Shefter of the NFL network. He also claims that the Redskins have expressed interest, however, I would doubt that they can afford to keep him happy. Anyone who has followed this story should know that Michael Strahan does not seriously want to retire, but actually wants a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl victory (rules out the Buffalo Bills) or more money, whichever he can get his hands on first. The Giants might want to review the W/L statistics with/without Strahan on the field before letting him go easily, though a large part of their position is that he has missed games due to injuries late in his career. A trade would seem to be the most realistic solution towards making both sides happy. Unlike the early retirement of Jake Plummer, Michael Strahan has a few good seasons left of solid production. Where will he land? Let the trade destination rumors begin.
