Stern's New Plan for the New Ball

I know this might be a bit premature but David Stern might be learning that cooperating with players in the league may be the best way to go. After issuing the new synthetic ball that everyone hated, Stern is still sticking to his plan to put a non-leather ball into play, but this time he will enlist the aid of some current players. The frontrunners are Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Players Association- Derek Fisher, and Kobe Bryant.

Kidd Might Go To Lakers Or Cavs

Peter Vecsey of the New York Post reported yesterday that the Lakers and Cavs have contacted the Nets about trading for Jason Kidd. Apparently the Lakers have offered a couple first-round draft picks and several expiring contracts for Kidd. Kidd would give the Lakers another shooter and a veteran that could help LA compete with the Suns and Mavs at the top of the West. The Cavs obviously want Kidd to relieve some of pressure placed on LeBron. Both teams could use him, but I think he would be better in Cleveland.

The Cavs Shut Down Kobe in the Final Seconds- Beat Lakers

When you think of the Cavs you think of LeBron James, but on Sunday it was the rest of the Cavs that stole the show. Sasha Pavlovic scored 21 points, Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 17, and Anderson Varejao finsihed with 12 as the Cavs won a 99-90 battle. Kobe Bryant tore it up in the second until Larry Hughes started guarding Kobe; the Lakers superstar was held scoreless in the final 3:39. If the Cavs supporting cast can play like they did today and support James when he struggles a bit, the Cavaliers could become a dangerous playoff threat.

Dwayne Wade is a Beast

The Heat might have a losing record, but as long as they have Dwayne Wade, Miami has a shot of winning the Eastern conference. Wade pulled his team out of the fire again, this time against the Spurs. After opening 3/9 from the floor during the first 3 quarters, Wade lit it up in the fourth, shooting 7/10 for 18 points to lead his Heat to a 100-85 win over San Antonio. Wade finished with 26 points,4 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. Yes the Heat have a losing record, but they are playing in the East.

Beckham's Still Got It

After David Beckham announced that he will be moving to LA to play for the Galaxy, many wondered if the 31-year old sports icon still has enough play left in him. Well, Beckham was just re-named to the Real Madrid starting lineup, and he scored a goal in his first game back. Guess he's still got it, but now the question is how much longer can he keep it?

The East Bay Funk Dunk

This dunk has probabaly been bested since it happened, but at the time this was one of the best dunks ever. Charles Barkley, who was watching on, exclaimed "Oh my God! That might be the best dunk I ever seen. That was awesome" right after the masterpiece.

Gary Williams During His Acting Days

Ok so the Maryland coach never really acted, but he does appear in this commercial for the supermarket chain Krogers. This is old, as in when Williams was the coach of Ohio State in the 1980s old. Enjoy!

What Is Duke To Do Now?

With an emotional loss to UNC, the Blue Devils stand at 5-5 in the ACC with an incredibly tough 7 games left, five of them on the road. They play Maryland and BC on the road before returning home against Ga. Tech, then take off again to Clemson and St. Johns before playing Maryland at home and finishing the season at UNC. But Duke has a lot of talent, and had it not been for their poor free throws, they would have beaten the Tar Heels. Plus they have arguably the best coach in the nation, and of course they will always carry Duke pride on their backs. That being said look for the Blue Devils to go 4-3 during this stretch, with losses coming to Maryland, BC, and UNC on the road.

Women Basketball Players' Weight An Issue?

According to Title IX, male and female athletes are meant to be treated equally. In practice I think it is fair to assume that the vast majority of schools do not look at a guy and girl equally. Take for instance the UNC Tarheels. On their website, the male roster lists the weights of each player; however, for the women there is no such listing. Why is this? Some say listing weight may cause women to dial in on the numbers which could lead to eating disorders. While valid, if you think about it, talking about a 220 lb women that is more fit than the majority of men seems like it would be a step toward placing less emphasis on weight.

UCLA Takes Out Aggression On Oregon St. in 82-35 Rout

The No. 5 ranked Bruins played like they should be the No. 1 team in the nation as they continued to take out their aggression from their loss to Stanford on other opponents. This time their victim was Oregon State. The Bruins came out firing on all cylinders and used a 11-2 run at the beginning to fuel a 82-35 rout. Look out Pac-10, the Bruins are angry, and looking to take it out on you.

Trojans Topple No. 9 Oregon

The Trojans were finally on the other end of a missed last second shot. USC was up 71-68 when Oregon's Aaron Brooks, one of the most clutch players in college basketball, came off a screen that freed him from Gabe Pruitt, pump-faked Taj Gibson into the air and then pulled up for an open three-point attempt. Luckily for the Trojans the shot didn't fall, and USC hung on to win. The Trojans, who are having a statement season, improved to 18-6 and 8-3 in conference play.

Suns Fall to 0-3 Against the Jazz

The Suns are almost unstoppable this season...unless they are playing the Jazz. Utah seems to have found a formula to beat the Suns as evidenced by their 3-0 record against Phoenix this season. The Suns dropped two of those games by 3 points, and one by four. Although the Suns played without Raja Bell and Kurt Thomas, and Shawn Marion fouled out, Steve Nash is quick to admit that the loss is on them.

Where Was the Home Crowd For the Golden Bears?

Last night I got free tickets to the Cal -Stanford game, and the one condition was that I sit in the Stanford student section. I am a Cal fan, and I was embarrassed, not because I was in the heart of the enemy, but because the Stanfurd student section was louder than ours. I know Cal basketball isn't that big of a deal, but I hope next time our home crowd can at least make more noise than 50 visitors.

Yao The Next William Hung?

I don't know how many of you have heard this, but Yao Ming will be on a promotional spot singing "Viva Las Vegas" for the upcoming NBA All-Star weekend. I am interested to see if Yao will continue a singing career. Who knows, maybe he will become the next William Hung...
