So here we are again at the start of another LONG AWAITED season. Our star QB in good health, our Superstar RB sitting on a brand new deal, a backfield that will make opposing QB's pee in their pants... and in a passing league on a team heavily commited to the pass, we line up at WR... a rookie and 2 undrafted FA's who have caught 5 TD's in their combined careers. Sound like a nightmare? It is. And it's about time for Eagles fans to wake up the Eagles FO. Anyone who knows anything about football knows that we need an upgrade at the WR position. Look what we did with TO! Look what 5 has done with the junk he has had to work with over the years!! Imagine the possibilities if we add another WR and DeSean develops!!!!! Is the writing not on the wall? WE NEED TO ADD A #! WR!!! I am hopefull that DeSean turns out to be great, but as it stands we are going into week 1 with NOTHING. Please stop the bleeding. It's prom night, time to put out. Work a trade already!!!

I found it interesting that both the Lions & Cards experienced significant injuries to CB on their roster (Cards rookie Cromartie suffered an ankle injury & was carted off). Could this be an opening for the inevitable Lito Sheppard trade? Both teams have WR that have been linked to the Eagles, though both seem like incredible longshots for trade potential.

Prime time games galore. Short weeks. Cross country trips. Tough divisional opponents. Our schedule has it all. Here's my take: I have us at 3-3 going into the Bye. Coming out, I have us at 5-5. So we end up at 8-8, and that's playing good football. This assumes we split the NFC East, which is realistic at best. I have run it out so many different ways & I keep coming back to the same sobering reality of 8-8. 8-8 people! Somebody help me change my outlook on this season PLEASE!

So the question is, are you an optimist or a pessismist? A lover or a hater? Is McNabb your hero or your zero? As Eagles fans have watched over the last 8 seasons, the window for our Super Bowl has been quickly opened, left open, closed, opened up again, closed, and so on... Some say we are at a crossroads with our star QB, others feel we have crossed the road a few years back & are ready to move on.

Brian Westbrook has "outplayed" his contract. So, he has fired his agent & is threatening a holdout if he doesn't get a new deal. Doesn't this story smell familiar? Why was TO such an enemy for asking for the same thing? Don't give me that he was only 1 year into his deal, b/c Westbrook is only 3 years into his and TO clearly had a more significant impact than BWest. Don't get me wrong, I love Westbrook & feel he deserves more money... but I felt the same way about 81. It's OK for the FO to ask veterans to take pay cuts, though. Tell me why this is ok Eagles fans.

Jags pursuing, but what do they have to offer in return? I like Coach Reid's statement at the end of this article r/e having a good rotation of 3 starters. Lito, Assante & Sheldon would be a silly good combo. If we did trade him, I would hate for it to be just for a bunch of draft picks. He is way too good to give up for anything less than a playmaking WR in trade.

When someone makes a terrible mispronunciation of a player name, or botches a fact, I call it making a "Gumbel" - kind of like a Munson. I'm not sure if the NFL Network thought maybe he'll get better... or maybe they weren't sure if this whole "football" thing would catch on, or maybe they just didn't want to embarass this guy by pulling the plug on him mid-season, but I knew after about 30 seconds of listening to this clown that he was HURTING! Some of my favorite memories of Bryant Gumbel ... refering to Tony Romo as "Antonio Romo" and questioning the New Orleans fans for "Booing" Deuce MacAllister (they were yelling Dooooce!). Please share your favorite "Gumbles" below!

OK so I am struggling to look at the positive here - I mean, are we re-tooling the offense & trying to take the emphasis off of the WR postion? I guess it's a good thing if we are just bulking up the red zone threats, what do we have now 4 TE's? And are we only signing people from the greater PA/NJ area? Make way for Kevin Jones then! Good job FO - let's hope you see something we don't! And welcome aboard Mr Wilson.

I for one am glad to hear that Chad would like to go to Dallas. As a die hard Eagles fan, it allows me to sleep well at night knowing that this idiot will never end up in our locker room. He signed a 6-year, 35 million dollar deal 2 years ago, and now he's crying about wanting out. Hmmmm... sounds like a familiar tune, how does this one go again? Oh yeah, TO, TO, TO, TO .... Ocho, Ocho, Ocho, Ocho.... Marv Lewis please stick to your guns.

Normally I agree with blinders on to anything Salpal has to say. Not here. Not now. Not about Brett Favre. Sure, Sal's spin on #4's career may be numerically correct. Sure he lost some games, threw some interceptions, but to put him in the same sentence as Eli Manning, with Eli coming out in a better light? Whoa, pal, who you think you're talkin' to? You talkin' bout my guy all wrong, you got the wrong tone. You're missing the whole thing. It's not about how many games he won. It's about how Favre played the game. His approach, his attitude, his toughness, his sportsmanship - he had it all and he brought it all every Sunday & Monday night. For the last 17 years, football hasn't been about watching Favre win, it's been about the privilege of watching Favre play the game. He may not have dominated his sport like Jordan or Tiger, but he exemplified it more than both of them combined. Favre will always be synonymous with all that is football, sports, competitiveness, toughness & sportsmanship. He played this game with his heart & soul. This game will not be the same without Brett Favre taking the field in Green Bay. I honestly thought & hoped that he might play forever... and for the record, I am not even a Packer's fan. ... oh, and one more thing Sal - do you honestly think Eli Manning will play 17 years in the NFL? Gimee a break.

Javon Walker is signing w/ Oakland. Not that he was real high on the Eagles' list, or they on his, it's just one less WR for us to choose from.
