Titans News, A Week in Review

I've been vacating and haven't been able to post the small bit of news that has come in over the past week, so I'll lump it all into one nice tidy post.

Titans Sign Safety Donnie Nickey

NASHVILLE, Tenn. β€” The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms Tuesday with unrestricted free agent safety Donnie Nickey.

Nickey, a five-year veteran, played in all 16 games last season. In 76 career games, he's made six starts and has made 36 tackles.

"He is a veteran player we can rely upon to work hard, help our depth at safety and be a leader on special teams," said Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt.

Nickey was a fifth-round draft pick in 2003 out of Ohio State.

Haynesworth Not Present For 14 Week Voluntary Workouts

NASHVILLE (AP) β€” The Tennessee Titans started their offseason program without All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

The Titans designated Haynesworth as their franchise player Feb. 20, but he is not under contract. The only way Haynesworth can take part would be to sign the tender worth $6.36 million, which would be 120% of his salary for 2007.

The 14-week program starting Monday is voluntary.

"Albert has not signed his tender and therefore will not be participating in the Titans offseason program at this time," agent Chad Speck wrote in an e-mail Monday.

Speck said Haynesworth is working out on his own and will be ready for the 2008 season.

Take Detroit off the Pacman List

The Detroit Lions are not making a bid for Adam "Pacman" Jones , the troubled Tennessee Titans cornerback who currently is under suspension by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy the Detroit News reported.

The Titans are attempting to trade Jones. The Lions will not pursue Jones, team president Matt Millen said Friday after Internet reports surfaced that the Lions are one of the teams interested in Jones.

"We've talked about it, but for a lot of reasons, we aren't going to try to get him," Millen said. "He has a lot of talent. We wish him well."

Haynesworth May Sit a While?

lbert Haynesworth said Friday he hasn't yet made up his mind as to whether he will report to Baptist Sports Park on Monday with his teammates for the beginning of the Tennessee Titans' off-season conditioning program. The Titans placed the franchise tag on the defensive tackle on Feb. 20, which gives him the option of not reporting for any off-season work with the team if he so chooses. Haynesworth must sign the tender offer to take part in off-season work because he is not currently under contract with the Titans.

Boston another city whose jail Pacman would like to visit.

Agent says Patriots would be a good fit for Pacman

No player is more synonymous with trouble than Adam "Pacman" Jones. No team is better at rehabilitating perceived problem children than the New England Patriots according to the Boston Herald. Could the two go great together? Jones' lawyer thinks so.

Manny Arora, Jones' attorney throughout his various brushes with the law, said yesterday that if the Tennessee Titans decide to trade their troubled corner, the Pats would be atop his list of landing spots. Though the Patriots have been described in prior reports as having shown a measure of interest in Jones, there's no evidence their curiosity has ever advanced beyond cursory.

Pacman Dallas Bound?

RVING – The Dallas Cowboys have held preliminary discussions with the Tennessee Titans about trading for suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, according to a source.

The Cowboys could give up a late-round draft pick to acquire Jones.

According to a source, Titans officials are not in a hurry to make a deal but realize the best way to move on without Jones is to trade him.

Mawae Elected NFLPA President

Titans center Kevin Mawae was elected president of the NFL Players Association during the union's spring meetings in Hawaii.

The 15-year veteran succeeds Troy Vincent, whose term recently ended, and will serve a two-year term. Mawae has been on the NFLPA's executive committee since 2002.

Response To a Critic, Taking a Stand For The Titans

I don't want to be the one to shy away from criticizing the team. And to be honest, yes it would be nice to have the high dollar player come in and "save the day". But lets face it, that isn't what this team is about. Today on www.realfootball365.com writer Marc Hudgens took stab after stab at the Titans, I'd like to use this post to reply to his

Titans Grab Another TE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)β€”The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a contract with tight end Dwayne Blakley, an unrestricted free agent from the Atlanta Falcons.

The 28-year-old Blakley played in 59 games and made nine starts in four years with Atlanta. He had 21 receptions for 189 yards and one touchdown.

Blakley originally was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie free agent in 2002, spending most of the season on their practice squad. In 2003, he played for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe and spent time on the practice squads of the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins.

Blakley is the second former Falcons tight end to join the Titans this offseason. Alge Crumpler agreed to terms with the team March 3.

Cortland Finnegan's Karaoke for a Cure

Titans Cornerback Cortland Finnegan will kickoff his fundraising efforts by hosting local country music celebrities and his Titans teammates for a unique Karaoeke event at Cabana Restaurant on April 1 at 7 p.m.

Another Receiver Gone, D.J. Signs with Panthers

Not that I actually expected the Titans to sign a free agent receiver, but yet another one has been taken off then market:

LenDale in Legal Trouble?

Denver police issued a citation to Titans running back LenDale White early Saturday morning and he has a court date to answer to two charges: destruction of property and disobedience to a lawful order/ interference and resistance.

Detective Sharon Hahn of the Denver Police Department, who answered media inquiry pages on Sunday, spelled out the details of the citation but said she did not have further details of the incident.

Scratch Chicago, Chris Brown Texas Bound

After flirting with the Bears the past week, Chris Brown found a new home with the Houston Texans yesterday. Brown signed a 2 year deal reportedly worth 3.6 million. He leaves Tennessee after 5 seasons.

Brown rushed for 462 yards last season behind LenDale White. He has averaged 4.3 yards per carry in a career that has never played a full season.

Michael Roos Doesn't Want To See Free Agency

Titans left tackle Michael Roos isn't scheduled to become a free agent until next offseason, but his agent said the time to complete a new contract is now.

Agent Cameron Foster recently sent Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt a letter that said if the team doesn't lock up Roos by the start of the season, it should be prepared to lose him after the season.
