Basketball is full of big players. It needs more big kids like Greg Oden -- athletes who are childlike, not childish. Big difference.

Burned by The Fire: The Story of Sebastian Telfair

A year after Lebron James became the "next high school phenom" in the NBA, Sebastian Telfair was drafted 13th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. At just six feet tall, the electric high school point guard from Brooklyn, NY made his mark with his blinding quickness and agility, with And 1 type handles and highlight reel passing ability. Much like King James, Telfair appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in his Abraham Lincoln High School uniform under the title "Watch Me Now" with the subtitle reading "Can a 6 foot high school point guard make the leap to the NBA? Yes he can."

Q & A with Ducks QB Nate Costa

Most preseason publications insist there's an enduring quarterback competition at Oregon. Don't believe it. The job, as nearly everyone close to the program knows, is sophomore Nate Costa's to lose.

Following through on his vow to bolster his team's depth, Miami Heat President Pat Riley moved closer Tuesday to signing James Jones to a free-agent contract, extending a contract offer to the former University of Miami 3-point specialist.

Why does trouble follow Javon Walker?

The past two years have been eventful for Javon Walker; however, in this case, eventful means bad for Raiders reciever Javon Walker. In these two years Walker has been involved in a teammates death, and a beat-down on a street close to the stip in Vegas. The last thing I want to do is make false assertions, but I can't help but wonder if trouble follows Walker around.

On January 1, 2007, Walker left a night club with fellow teammate Darrent Williams. Williams and two other passengers were shot when another vehicle pulled beside his rented Hummer H2 limousine in downtown Denver, Colorado. Williams died in Walkers arms shorty after 2:00 a.m. Walker said in an interview with Andrea Kremer of HBO's Real Sports that the attacks likely stemmed from a confrontation from bar patrons with rookie wideout Brandon Marshall and his cousin. I'm not sure if Walker had anything to do with the confrontation, but under the circumstances, I can't see him not getting in on the confrontation.

Just after 7AM on Monday, June 16, 2008, Walker was found unconscious in Las Vegas, Nevada, on a street just off the Las Vegas Strip. Police say he was the victim of an apparent robbery and a large amount of cash and some jewelry were taken from him. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Again, trouble found Javon. Either Javon's got a really big mouth and likes to flaunt his money, jewls and playing ability around, or he's the victim of bad luck.

Something about these incidents don't add up. There is something more to Javon Walker that we (the public) don't know. There's something about the people Javon hangs out with that will one day get him killed. Professional athletes have everything, and they have to understand that people will do anything to take that away from them. Keep it clean Javon. I enjoy watching you on Sunday's.

Oregon QB Cooper to transfer

Ducks coach Mike Bellotti announced Thursday that QB Cade Cooper will transfer to Southern Utah. Oregon's QB roster is down to the following: Nate Costa, Justin Roper, Chris Harper, Darron Thomas, and Jeremiah Masoli. I'm sure Cade could have survived in the Oregon offense; however, with so many players all competing for time, this is the best thing for him. Best of Luck Cade.

The so-called dream job that landed in John McLaren's lap almost one year ago ended on Thursday morning when he became the latest victim to the Mariners' nightmarish season.

Ron Artest to Los Angeles?

What the Lakers need is another banger. The Lakers need a player who isn't afraid to stir some stuff up. The guy is Ron Artest. Personally, I'd love to see this move. Artest seems like a good fit for the Lakers, but can Kobe exist with this guy? Laker fans chime in, let me know what you think.

Phil Jackson will be out of Los Angeles

Phil Jackson's time as Lakers head coach is running out. Against the Celtics, Jackson got totally, completely and utterly exposed in the finals. He flat out didn't coach the Lakers. He showed no emotion and got out coached by Doc Rivers. Phil Jackson made zero adjustments. It looked like Jackson was in pain. he didn't prepare his team, they didn't play hard, they didn't step up and they didn't defend Ray Allen or James Posey.

Jackson is a hall or fame coach, take nothing away from him from that perpective, but Jackson cannot connect with his players anymore. It's time for Phil Jackson to go. Phil wants credit for nine championships, then he gets blame for this total embarrassment. Thanks Calvinat!

Father and son is a special situation when it's also coach and QB

Dan Hawkins tells a story about his early days as a head coach at Willamette University, a Division III school in Oregon. He is on the sideline during a game, his team at one end of the field and his barely school-age sons Cody and Drew at the other end.
