Top 10 Favorite Moments from the All Stars Helping Kids Fantasy Football Draft Party

Last Friday, Ronnie Lott's charity organization, All Stars Helping Kids, held an event that gave corporate sponsors a chance to team up with NFL legends to draft a fantasy football team. Yardbarker.com 's Dewey Hammond and FoxSports's Mike Harmon emceed the event, which had many highlights, a number of which came during Dewey's between round interviews. Check Yardbarker for all the footage in the next few days. You won't want to miss it.

Thanks to Yardbarker, I was lucky enough to be a "roaming analyst." When I agreed to help out, I didn't know what to expect; I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to be doing or what NFL guys would be there. In the end, I was bouncing from team to team, providing my expert fantasy analysis to Ronnie Lott, Marcus Allen, Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Warren Moon, Charles Haley, Tim Brown, Tom Rathman, Brent Jones and Ted Hendricks.

Besides meeting all of these greats, here are some of my personal favorite moments that the cameras may not have captured. Enjoy, I know I did.

10) Showing Darren McFadden how to activate Star Power on Guitar Hero.

9) Having Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin say "Get Dave over here!" and having Ted Hendricks call me "clip board guy."

8) Telling Ronnie Lott (the event's organizer) that he didn't have the first overall pick of the draft any more...after he had already submitted his selection of Tomlinson.

7) Having a one-on-one conversation with Michael Irvin about the Bengals WR situation and specifically about a conversation he had with Carson Palmer a week before. Both Ocho Cinco and Housh were on his draft board early in the third round, and Michael Irvin took Housh over Chad. How about that?

6) When making my recommendation to Jerry Rice and his team for their last pick, Jerry looks at his team and points at me and says "that's our guy." I can pretend he was talking about me and not about my suggestion, Rashard Mendenhall (a steal that late in the draft). Right?

5) Having Michael Irvin call Deion Branch because he didn't believe me when I told him that Branch was likely to miss the first half of the season because of off-season knee surgery.

4) Telling Michael Irvin that as a life-long Giants' fan, I rooted against him his entire career, but that I really enjoy his studio work and look forward to seeing him again.

3) Having Michael Irvin tell me to "think with my clipboard and not with my heart" when he asked for my thoughts on drafting Eli Manning over Derek Anderson

2) Having an opportunity to tell Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin which WRs I think are good.

1) Being treated like an expert by a room full of Hall of Famers.

Thanks again to All Stars Helping Kids and Yardbarker.com

Life Imitates Art: Tony Gonzalez saves "choking" man

Chiefs' TE Tony Gonzalez saved a choking man's life by applying the Heimlich. "Tony saved my life. There's no doubt," Ken Hunter, a shipping company manager, told The Associated Press. "Tony came up behind me and gave me the Heimlich maneuver. Thank God he was there." Oddly enough, Tony was never taught how to administer the maneuver.

Lets compare this with a Chuck Palahniuk (think Fight Club) novel, Choke, where the main character, Victor Mancini cannot afford the care that his mother is receiving so goes to various restaurants and purposely causes himself to choke mid-way through his meal, luring a "good Samaritan" into saving his life. He keeps a detailed list of everyone who saves him and sends them frequent letters about fictional bills he is unable to pay. The people feel so sorry for him that they give him money, send him cards and letters asking him about how he's doing, and even continue to send him money to help him with the bills. Choke hits theaters this fall.

"I'm Tony's No. 1 fan now," Hunter said. "I'm going to be yelling for Tony to catch the ball," (and send me money).

What do you think?

Baron Davis, Thiery Henry, Steve Nash shine in Showdown in Chinatown soccer game

Steve Nash, NBA MVP, proved to all in attendance in Sara Roosevelt Park last that he can ball on the soccer pitch as well. He and long time Team USA captain Claudio Reyna put together an 8 on 8 game featuring current NBA stars as well as current and past world soccer stars. Steve Nash, Raja Bell, Jason Kidd and Yardbarker's own Baron Davis and Leandro Barbosa represented the NBA. Soccer greats included Reyna, Chelsea's stars Thiery Henry and Salomon Kalou, Liverpool legend Robbie Lawler, young American star Jozy Altidore, NY/NJ Red Bull's Juan Pablo Angel and many others.

Boom Dizzle, sporting a baseball cap, framed glasses and old school basketball kicks, was most definitely the crowd favorite.

Here are a few pics from the event and a video of Davis showing his skills.

Tiger Done for 2008!

Tiger Woods is done for the season. The Golf Channel website reports he has a small stress fracture in his left knee and also needs ACL repair and wants to return at full strength in 2009.

Was it worth it? I think so. It was an incredible tournament even without the knee drama. And he certainly won't miss the winnings for the rest of the year.

Avery hospitalized, out for remainder of playoffs

"Rangers bad boy Sean Avery, unconscious and not breathing, was rushed to a Manhattan hospital Wednesday in cardiac arrest just hours after his team's playoff loss, sources said." , according to an earlier article on the NY Daily News website. The NY Daily News has since fixed the story with no mention of its previous errors or outrageous claims. He is still in the hospital with a spleen laceration. The Rangers have issued a statement that Avery will miss the rest of the season. Sh*theads John Dellapina and Larry McShane from NY Daily News somehow feel this is a good time to bring up Avery's alleged link to a prostitution ring. There is no place for mention of all the other Avery antics in an article about his health being in serious jeopardy. As Sean would probably say, F*ck the media!.

Avery Beats up Chris Elliot on Letterman

Chris Elliot, aka Woogie, payed a visit to the Rangers for a Letterman skit and got roughed up for making out with Avery's grandma.

Why white people like Outdoor Performance Clothes….

#87 on the list of "Stuff White People Like" explains that: 'The main reason why white people like these clothes is that it allows them to believe that at any moment they could find themselves with a Thule rack on top of their car headed to a national park. It could be 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday when they might get a call "hey man, you know what we need to do? Kayak then camping, right now. I'm on my way to get you, there is no time to change clothes."'

I'm guilty on many counts. Just the other day, I wore a North Face jacket on a flight back from Savannah's St. Patrick's Day celebration while listening to Mos Def on my iPod. That's numbers 89, 87, 69 and 40 on the list simultaneously. Guess I'm pretty white.

Jagr spits out his teeth, scores game winner

Rangers actually scored 3 goals last night in a win against the Lightning. Nigel Dawes scored (again) first with a beautiful redirection. He became the Rangers leading goal scorer even though he was called up after 5 games. After a Lecavalier penalty shot goal (questionable call), Jagr got hit in the mouth with the puck. He spit out his teeth, and returned to the bench. He returned to score the game winner in the third. Shanny secured the win with another PP goal.

Shanahan had issued a wish to Ranger fans before the game to keep the faith. Whatever Jagr and Shanny came up with after the embarrassment in Toronto, seemed to work last night.

Lundqvist had another solid performance stopping all shots except for the penalty shot. Lets call it a half a shutout. The defense limited TB to only 22 shots, but were extremely messy and victims of many turnovers in their own end and mishandles at the blue line. Malik did not look good out there.

VonBudel helps Rangers halt skids, beat Devils 2-0

Nigel Dawes, yes, Nigel Dawes broke the Rangers' scoreless losing streak. Dawes scored two goals last night against the Devils and Lundqvist stopped all 22 shots he faced. The Rangers hadn't won in 5 games, hadn't scored a goal in 126 minutes and hadn't tallied an even strength goal in 182 minutes. I'd like to attribute this change of fortune to myself, as the Dawes scored his first goal as soon as I stepped out of the escalator tower and onto the concourse. Rangers fans, you are welcome.

Gomez didn't do much against his former team. Former Ranger Karel Rachunek helped the Rangers with an errant pass right into his team's line change. Dawes turned that into the streak ender.

If Dawes keeps this up, it will be interesting to see how Tom Renney juggles the lineup when his three injured wingers (Avery, Straka and Callahan) return from injury. Benching Colton Orr sometimes is probably not a terrible problem to have. Lets keep Marcel Hossa playing with Jagr. They looked sharp when they were together on the ice last night (as they did last year, before Hossa's injury).

Dolphins LB just found out that English is spoken in England

Dolphins LB Channing Crowder says he didn't know until Tuesday that people in London speak English.

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the

countries," he said. "I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I

know Italy looks like a boot. I know London Fletcher. We did a

football camp together. So I know him. That's the closest thing I know

to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure

that's a coincidental name."

He apparently had a 3.5 GPA and graduated early. Lets hope this former Gator is kidding around. There is some funny commentary in the "comments" section below. Apparently the smartest kid at U of F in 2005 had a 2.8 GPA. And to think USF has poor academic standards!

Rangers have the worst offense in the NHL

That's right, the Rangers have the worst offense in the NHL. They are the only team scoring less than two goals a game. In their 5 losses, they have scored just 5 goals. The Devils of the 90s couldn't win with those kind of averages. Even with this all this talk of a weak defense, Lundqvuist has kept the Rangers in 8th place for goals allowed per game. Thanks Henrik.

They are taking advantage of the power play just 14% of the time (not far from the bottom). Poor Oilers are at 3%. Damn!

Lets hope that the string of 8 "home" games in the state of NY starting later this week can help these Rangers "gel" and score some goals.

Rutgers vs USF Field Rush

Do Rutgers fans rush the field again next week after beating WVU?

A Chelsea dwelling Sean Avery wants to be a fashion magazine editor

In a recent Times interview with Ranger agitator, Sean Avery revealed some moderately gay facts about himself. He started off by saying that his "fantasy" job is to be a fasion magazine editor and that he couldn't wait for the Spring Dior Men's collection to come out. He later earned some credit for admitting to listening to Tool on the way to MSG before games and by proudly stating that he usually keeps a beautiful woman at his bedside.

In hockey news, he is skating at practice with the rest of the team even with the groin pull.
