Akron basketball player arrested after shooting at officers

Akron basketball player Rydell Brooks was arrested Sunday after shooting at officers during a foot chase at a traffic stop. The 20-year-old sophomore guard reportedly ran from the car and fired several times at officers while they chased him. He is being held in Summit County Jail and faces attempted murder and felonious assault charges. Apparently Brooks wanted to pass up Lebron as the most famous person hailing from Akron.

Former Tennessee star sets WNBA record in debut

Former Tennessee star Candace Parker scored 34 points in her WNBA debut Saturday, setting the record for the most points by a player in their first game in the WNBA. The previous record was 25 by Cynthia Cooper in 1997. Parker, who led Tennessee to consecutive NCAA championships, also had 12 rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and one block in her debut. She led the Los Angeles Sparks past the defending champion Phoenix Mercury, 99-94. Straight balla!

UCLA fan does the boogey, scars me for life

After viewing this video of a UCLA fan dancing around and taking his shirt off, I have been scarred for life. Everytime I get over a fan burning my eyes, they go ahead and do it again. Now I am covered in scars. And to think fans encourage these "people."

The way-too-early BCS projections

For all you die-hard college football fans, here are the BCS projections for the upcoming season. Although it is way too early to tell or make any kind of expert prediction, one brave man has decided to go ahead and make a prediction anyway. So when most of his predictions don't come true, we can all point and laugh at him.

Virginia Tech QB recruit arrested on drug charges

Virginia Tech recruit Peter Rose, the first-team quarterback who led Amherst High School to two consecutive titles and was voted the AP Group AA 2007 player of the year, is facing felony drug charges. Rose, who is currently sitting cozy in the county jail, was charged with two counts of the distribution of marijuana and two counts of distributing drugs within 1,000 feet of the school. Wasn't there another QB associated with Virginia Tech that was trouble? Oh ya, Marcus Vick.

West Virginia lands top prospect

As West Virginia's star forward Joe Alexander debates whether to enter the NBA draft, the Mountaineers have decided to add some insurance, landing the top unsigned prospect available, Devin Ebanks. Ebanks, the 13th best player in the country according to Scout.com, had signed with Indiana but withdrew after former coach Kelvin Sampson was let go. West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, who just was signed to an 11-year contract with the Mountaineers, had a lot to do with Ebanks' decision: "I really respect Coach (Bob) Huggins and I trust what he's saying," Ebanks told FOXSports.com. "I also feel like I can make an impact quickly at West Virginia."

Was Kansas basketball star eligible to play for national champion Jayhawks?

Kansas forward Darrell Arthur, who was second in scoring for the Jayhawks during their championship run, reportedly had his grades altered at South Oak Cliff High School, which allowed him to go to Kansas. His former math teacher said his math grade was changed without her knowing. You know who else graduated from South Oak Cliff? J'Mison Morgan, a top center recruit who is thinking about going to UCLA. I think a thorough Yardbarker investigation is in order.

Notre Dame coach calls U.S. military "hoodlums and thugs"

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis used to be a respected coach. Now he loses games and degrades the U.S. military. Recently, Weis was quoted as saying "I could get hoodlums and thugs and win tomorrow. I won't do it that way." He was referring to his matchup with the football teams of Navy and Air Force. Nice call, Charlie-good timing too, considering, I don't know, WE'RE AT WAR

Joe-Pa still alive and kickin'

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, currently 81 years old going on 100, is in good condition after going to the hospital for dehydration. He was released Thursday. That dehydration will get you...or that old age.

Denver Nuggets assistant coach upgrades to assistant coach at University of Arizona

Probably realizing the Nuggets are never going to get farther than the eighth seed in the NBA playoffs, Denver assistant coach Mike Dunlap has decided to upgrade to assistant coach of the University of Arizona. That way, he can win something. And not have to deal with Carmelo.

Former Indiana interim coach gets $185,000 from school

Dan Dakich, who was Indiana's interim coach for the last seven games last season, has been rewarded $185,000 from the school for his troubles. That's over $25,000 a game. Dakich took over for former Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson when Sampson was accused of violating NCAA rules.

Florida State catcher plays all nine positions, hits grand slam in one game

Florida State catcher Buster Posey became more than just a catcher in the Seminoles' 10-0, seven-inning victory against Savannah State on Monday. He played all nine positions. To top it off, he hit a grand slam to the opposite field. He used four different gloves during the course of the game. There is no indication as to why the coach did this.

Ex-West Virginia coach claims he was "coerced" into signing with Michigan

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, in efforts to appear like a good guy that didn't leave West Virginia for more money, has finally gone too far. Rodriguez recently came out and said he was "coerced" (in other words, threatened or forced) to sign a multi-million dollar contract with Michigan. He didn't explain the specifics of what "coerced" means, but I'm guessing it's somewhere along the lines of "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Give it up Rich-Rod.

Nick Saban recruits using a webcam, becomes even more impersonal

As if Alabama football coach Nick Saban isn't impersonal enough, now he doesn't talk to recruits, he connects (or doesn't) with them on a webcam. The method is being used more and more by coaches these days to connect to recruits across the country. However, if I was a recruit, seeing Nick Saban on a creepy webcam would probably freak me out.
