The Yankees looked great in their first spring training game. The regulars scored 5 runs in the first two innings on the basis of home runs from Damon and Giambi. Of course, that was against
Carlos Silva.
Silva may just be the worst pitcher in the majors with a guaranteed starting job this year. His line last year: ERA-5.94, 70K in over 180 innings and a WHIP of 1.54. And all of that in his age 27 season. Yuck. Unfortunately for the Twins, they were forced to pick up his 4.325 million option after Radke retired. For the Twins, that is far too much money to just let him sit, pitch in middle relief, or send him down to the minors.
There are other bad pitchers that are up for consideration (
Chan Ho Park and
Shawn Chacon) but for my money, Silva is the worst.
