My Kansas Jayhawks hit the court for the 1st regular season game against UMKC!! The Jayhawks weren't looking to pretty stat wise at the half shooting just 32% of their field goals and were only shooting 9% from beyond the arc! KU ended the 1st half with a little 5-0 run to tie the game at 32 at the half. The second half looked more like the Jayhawks I know and have come to expect. KU won 71-56 @ the Fieldhouse! Don't forget my Jayhawks are defending NCAA Men's Basketball Champions!! All 5 starters from last year's championship team were drafted within the 1st 2 rounds in the NBA draft this year. We are a young team but, a very talented young team that is only ranked 23rd in the pre-season polls!! I hope they can repeat as champs but, if they don't win it all again this year watch for next year and the years to follow. Sheron Collins returns from last years championship team as well as Cole Aldrich, who had an outstanding game against North Carolina last year in the Final Four game in which we beat the dog crap out of them!! LOL!!! Good Luck to KU this year and let's all hope for another Rock Chalk Championship!!! GO KU!!!!!!!

My Kansas City Chiefs are now 1-9 after falling to a Bush-less Saints team 30-20 @ Arrowhead Stadium. KC's one win this year came against division rivals Denver Broncos back in week 4 33-19 @ Arrowhead Stadium. Since 3rd string QB Tyler Thigpen has been named starter we have yet to win again but for the past 4 weeks the Chiefs have played the Brett Favre and the Jets to a last minute comeback to beat the Chiefs 24-20. The week after they faced a very tough and stingy defense in Tampa Bay. After our first drive led to a touchdown the Bucs fumbled on their first play from scrimmage and the Chiefs went down the short field to score yet another touchdown. After a Tampa Bay field goal the Chiefs marched down the field and scored yet another touchdown to go up 21-3 early. A second half collapse in the Chiefs' defense allowed a Tampa Bay comeback that ended up in a game tying touchdown pass from Garcia. The 2 went to OT tied up at 27. The Bucs got ball first in OT and marched down the field and kicked a game winning field goal to escape with a 30-27 win @ Arrowhead. The following week the Chiefs traveled to San Diego to play division rivals Chargers in Qualcomm Stadium. The Chiefs capitalized early on their 2nd drive to go up 7-0. After 2 San Diego field goals The Chiefs drive down the field to score another touchdown. A muffed snap by the new rookie long snapper meant a missed PAT that would end up being crucial. Once again a collapse in the Chiefs' defense and a slow start by the Thigpen lead offense allowed the Chargers to drive down the field for a touchdown and tie the game at 13. The Chiefs were unable to get anything going in the 3rd quarter. The Chargers struck early in the 4th quarter to take a 20-13 lead which would hold for pretty much the entire quarter until the Chiefs got the ball back with around 2 minutes to go. Thigpen lead the team down field to the 1 yard line after a pass interference call against the Chargers kept the Chiefs' offense alive. An incomplete pass on first down, a run that actually lost 2 yards led to a 3rd down conversion for a 3 yard touchdown grab for Tony Gonzalez (his 2nd on the day) as he didn't make the initial catch but was able to rip the ball from a San Diego defender. Coach Herm Edwards made the call to go for the 2 point conversion (yeah, even after it took 3 tries from inside the 3 yard line to score in the first place) which failed and gave San Diego a 20-19 win. It all goes back to that muffed snap for the extra point in the 1st quarter. Had my beloved Kansas City Chiefs gotten that extra point we could have just been kicking an extra point for the win instead of a 2 point conversion for the win that ended up failing. A mediocre showing against the Saints by both the offense and defense led to yet another loss in a more than disappointing year for the Chiefs. KC has Buffalo at home next week then it's off to Oakland where they look to avenge the embarrassing 23-8 loss at home to the Raiders back in week 2. After that it's back to Arrowhead where they will take on the Chargers, then it's off to Cincinnati to end the season against a rather dismal Bengals team that held on to a tie with the Eagles through OT today, making it the first tie in the NFL since 2002. I'm behind my Chiefs all the way whether it's a 1 win season or a 1 loss season!! I bleed the Red and Gold and always will!!! GO CHIEFS!!!!

The Nascar season has come to an end with 2 new champs and an oh so familiar face. Congrats to Johnny Benson in the #23 Toyota on beating my man Ron Hornaday Jr for the Truck Series Championship by 7 points. Congrats to Clint Bowyer for holding off Carl Edwards for his first ever Nationwide Championship by holding Edwards off by 21 points. Now to the Cup Series where the familiar face of Jimmie Johnson won his historical 3rd straight Championship tying Cale Yarborough's record set in 76-78!! Jr went into Miami-Homestead in 10th in points and had a brake caliper brake late in the race lowering him to 12th in points which means no trip to New York for the awards ceremony!! Oh Well.. There is always next year.

Congrats to Jeff Burton and the whole #31 AT&T team on the victory @ Lowe's Motorspeedway saturday night. A weekend that started out gloomy with rain escalated to a scuffle between Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards in the garage area. After Harvick's statements on Edward's involvement in the 2nd "Big One" at Talladega last weekend (he caused it) Edwards apparently left a note on Harvick's plane or left it with the pilot I'm not sure which. Harvick confronted Edward's about the note and a scuffle broke out between the 2 championship contenders. Edwards was apparently thrown onto his or the 33 car's hood after trying to stop Harvick from leaving during the altercation. Kasey Khane, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, and Jaime McMurray make up the top 5. Jimmie Johnson, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, and David Ragan round out the top 10. Tony Stewart was 11th, Clint Bowyer was 12th and teammate (and future MMA star) Kevin Harvick was 13th. Denny Hamlin was 16th, Carl Edwards was 33rd and Dale Earnhardt Jr was 36th. Another crappy race for Dale Jr. I wish Harvick would've kicked Edwards's ass!! LOL!!

Congrats to Tony Stewart and the #20 Home Depot team on the victory in Talladega in what was nothing less than exciting and nail biting. The first caution came out on lap 33 because of debris. The second caution came out on lap 45 once again for debris on the track. The third caution was thrown on lap 53 when David Ruetimann blew a tire. Jeff Gordon tried to miss the accident but went right towards the wall and the # 21 car driven by Jon Wood and suffered major damage to the front of the 24 car. The fourth caution was called when Brian Vickers blows a right front tire taking out 9 cars including Martin Truex Jr as he was pushing Dale Earnhardt Jr to the front. Dale Jr just barely missed being caught up in the "Big One". The first of two!! Mike Wallace blew a tire on lap 81 on the fourth RCR car the #33. The tire hit Micheal Waltrips #55 Toyota causing some damage. The sixth caution of the day came when Denny Hamlin blew a right front while leading the pack. No one else was caught up in the crash. After making repairs to the 24 car Gordon returns to the track several laps down and has engine problems on lap 138 ending his day. Kevin Harvick spins out on lap 164 but doesn't hit anyone or anything. Caution flag #9 was the "Big One" as far as the chase drivers are concerned. On lap 174, with just 14 laps to go Carl Edwards was bumping Greg Biffle through the corner and spun him down into Matt Kenseth which caused both drivers to veer up the track and collected Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, along with five other drivers. Jaime McMurray blows a tire on lap 184 setting up a green, white checkerd with Tony Stewart out front. The field follows Stewart around out of turn four on the last lap until rookie Regan Smith in the #01 for DEI makes a move to go high but Stewart blocks him and he tries to go low and goes beneath the yellow line to beat Stewart to the finish lines, but as Nascar rules go you can not pass beneath the yellow line to improve your position so the win goes to Tony Stewart, his first ever Cup win at the infamous 2.66 mile track. Stewart, fondly known as Smoke. snaps a 43 race winless streak at a track where he'd finished 2nd six times! Paul Menard, who just this week announced he was leaving DEI next year for a ride at Yates finished 2nd, David Ragan, Jeff Burton, and Clint Bowyer are your top 5. Bobby Labonte, Scott Riggs, Robby Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Elliot Sadler round out the top 10. Other notables are Kyle Busch in 15th, Kevin Harvick in 20th, Greg Biffle in 24th, Matt Kenseth 26th Dale Jr finished in 28th, and Carl Edwards finished 29th. Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin had the worst days as far as chase drivers go finishing 28th for Gordon and 39th for Hamlin. As far as points go Jimmie Johnson 1st. 2nd is Carl Edwards -72, 3rd is Greg Biffle -77, 4th is Jeff Burton -99, Clint Bowyer moved up 2 spots to 5th -152, Kevin Harvick is 6th -171, Tony Stewart jumps 4 spots with his win today to 7th -203, Jeff Gordon is 8th -232, Matt Kenseth is 9th -245, Dale Earnhardt Jr is 10th -249, Kyle Busch is 11th -331, and Denny Hamlin is 12th -335. This race could have been what Jimmie Johnson needed to help propel him to his third straight championship. Edwards knew better than to be bumping in the corners and I hope Nascar and Jack Roush sit him down and have a little chat with him about his actions today. Dale Jr said it best, " Some people know how to bump draft right and we have fun doing it." Dale Jr also noted that " A couple of them need to learn how to bump draft" You hear that Carl?? He was talking bout you. What a DUMBASS!!!!!

My top pick first and foremost is none other than one Dale Earnhardt Jr. I mean, who knows how to get around this place better than the son of the man who taught all about "seeing" the air and using it to slingshot past the car or two in front of him? Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, teammates to Dale Jr will be contenders in the end. Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin will be threats in the final laps of sundays race in Talladega. I think Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle will be able to finish at least top 10 if not get the win on a push from a fellow teammate. Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, and Jeff Burton could be there challenging the best of them in the final few laps for the win. My sleepers for the weekend are David Ragan, who continues to impress many this year after just missing the chase, and he could go for it all and be a spoiler in the race sunday. Martin Truex Jr and Mark Martin over at DEI could quite possibly be in the thick of things towards the end of the race as long as their equipment can hold together for the whole race we could be looking at the 1 or better yet the 8 car in victory lane! Good luck to all drivers this weekend. GO DALE JR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos sunday 33-19 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The Broncos came into the game 3-0 and favored to win by 10.5 and lost by 14 to my beloved Kansas City Chiefs. Breaking a 12 game losing streak at home and against the Broncos was lovely. Would've been better to beat the Raiders there 2 weeks earlier but hey. 1-3 and heading to a 3-1 Carolina team to take on the Panthers sunday. They have a lot better defense than the Broncos but no one thought we were really gonna beat the Broncos either!!! Larry Johnson ran the ball 28 times for 198 yards and 2 TD's. Tony Gonzalez also had a beautiful TD catch and is now only 3 yards from breaking long time Denver Bronco, Shannon Sharpes record for total yards in a career. Congrats to LJ, DBO, Tony Gonzalez, Damon Huard and the rest of the team on a much needed and much deserved win!!! GO CHIEFS!!!!

Well, they're finally here!! It's Nationwide and Cup Series weekend here at my home track, Kansas Speedway. I believe that after all the commotion about radio talk between Dale Earnhardt Jr and his cousin and crew chief, Tony Eury Jr and the dismal race last weekend at Dover, that Dale Jr will rebound with a good finish if not the win @ Kansas this weekend. He has finished 34th and 10th the last 3 races here, with 2 top 10's in a row. Tony Stewart, a former winner here in 2006 is looking to turn his season around as he returns to the Kansas Speedway. Last years controversial winner, Greg Biffle returns on fire, being the only driver to win the first 2 chase races since the format was adopted in 2004. His teammates Carl Edwards, ( 1st in points) and Matt Kenseth have real good history here in Kansas in it's short existence. The winner of the first 2 cup races held here in 2001 and 2002, Jeff Gordon is also looking to visit victory lane for the first time this year, could very well be a contender come the end of the race. 2 time defending cup champion, Jimmie Johnson who is looking for victory lane for the 4th time this year will be a main threat. After 2 horrible races to start the chase, Kyle Busch will be looking to get things back on track here @ Kansas and could also be a factor. Kansas native Clint Bowyer, who finished 2nd in last years controversial finish is looking to win at his home track for the first time and could be a strong pick to win the race. Also, his teammates Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton could be factors in this weekends race. My sleeper picks for this weekend are David Ragan in the Roush #6 car could very well be in victory lane this weekend and Mark Martin in the #8 car could pick up a victory here, seeing as his last win came here in 2005. Good luck to all the drivers. GO DALE JR!!!!

Greg Biffle got a little surprise last weekend, winning the Sylvania 300 @ New Hampshire, and knew he had a shot at Dover. Well, congrats to Greg Biffle as he went 2 for 2 after winning the Camping World 400 @ Dover sunday. Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson round out the top 5. Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Clilnt Bowyer, Jeff Burton, and Micheal Waltrip make up the top 10. It was a especially rough day for championship contenders Dale Earnhardt Jr and Kyle Busch. Dale Earnhardt Jr had an extremely loose race car and after starting 10th he quickly slid back through the field and eventually went a lap down. After the first green flag stops he went down another lap to then leader Carl Edwards. Kyle Busch blew a motor 172 laps into the race leaving him finishing a dismal 43rd giving him 2 straight races of 30th or worse in the first 2 races of the chase. After being described as " bullet proof" through the first 26 races he can't seem to catch a break in the Chase. Dale Jr finished 24th 3 laps down. Carl Edwards is your points leader by 10 over 2nd place Jimmie Johnson and 3rd place Greg Biffle who is actually tied with Johnson for 2nd. Jeff Burton is 4th 82 points out. Kevin Harvick, who finished 6th moved up 5 positions up to 5th 101 points out. Clint Bowyer who finished 8th climbed 3 spots to 6th 106 points out. Tony Stewart, who finished 11th stayed in 7th 113 points out. Jeff Gordon, who finished 7th climbed 3 spots to 8th 118 points out. Dale Earnhardt Jr. fell 5 spots to 9th 129 points out. Matt Kenseth, who was a strong contender for the win with Biffle and Edwards finishing 2nd gained 2 spots to 10th 167 points out. Denny Hamlin, who finished 38th fell 5 spots to 11th 193 points out. Kyle Busch, who had by far the worst day for chase drivers finished 43rd after blowing a motor dropped 4 positions to 12th 210 points out. We head to my home track, Kansas Speedway next weekend, where Greg Biffle won last year ( in a BS race) with the chase growing even more interesting. Good luck to all the chase drivers. GO DALE EARNHARDT JR!!!!!!!!!!!

The Texans Reliant Stadium suffered major damage to the roof. There are pieces of the roof that are just gone! Ike slammed into the Texas coast Friday night and moved inland by saturday morning. Large pieces of debris lay scattered on the field and the work will not be complete in time to have a safe game here by Monday night.!!

With qualifying being rained out my picks are the entire chase field. Denny Hamlin has the best average finish at Loudon with a 6.8 and Clint Bowyer with the worst at 22nd. Dale Jr., has an average finish of 17th making him 10th among the 12 chase drivers. Last year Clint Bowyer entered the chase winless and won from the pole in dominating fashion!! Perhaps Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordon could start the chase off with a bang and a victory! Perhaps Greg Biffle or Matt Kenseth could visit victory lane for the first time this year, or just maybe everybody's "dark horse", Kevin Harvick will have that Shell car up front when the checkers wave Sunday. Good luck to all. GO Dale Jr!!!!!!!!
