Zaun signs with Jays?

It seems that Zaun is re-signing with the Jays the day that the Barajas signing would be official. No word on what is going on with Barajas...either the Jays are gonna be stacked or this was an interesting play by JP to use Barajas to drop the price of Zaun.

Eaton gets big money from Phillies

Adam Eaton, formerly of the Rangers, has signed a 3 year deal worth $24 million with the Phillies. This after he was not very good last year when trying to recover from a finger injury. His ERA+ of 92 was below league average and his Value Over Replacement Player was 6.4 So essentially the Phillies are paying $1 million for each run that Eaton saves them above a replacement level pitcher if he performes in the same fashion.

Ducks losing goalies fast

With Bryzgalov and Giguere already injured, the Ducks have lost their minor league starter through re-entry waivers. They're now down to their AHL backup, Mike Wall, to start and an ECHL call-up to back-up

Hawks fire coach; hire Savard

The Chicago Blackhawks have fired Trent Yawney and hired former great Denis Savard to replace him.

The problem isn't the coach, it's the lack of talent, every time someone plays well for them, they get injured and they don't have that much talent to replace them

Free Agent Review 2006

Another article from BVTN, this one with a statistical inquiry into how much teams are paying free agents per run they bring to the lineup. Very interesting read...the data table is cool to look at! Interesting stuff though when you look at that they're paying over $300,000 per run added to their line-ups. Somehow I think that MLB is awash with money

Orioles bullpen upgrade - Baez signed

The Orioles upgraded their bullpen again this off-season with the signing of Danys Baez to a 3 year deal. The former Tampa Bay closer will be the set up man for the O's, and became the second highest paid setup man in the Majors with a deal that will pay him in excess of $6 million per season.

Ricciardi Project - Trade analysis

This is another article from BVTN analyzing the moves made by JP Ricciardi in his first five seasons as Blue Jays' GM! Utilizes VORP, WIn Shares, ERA+ and OPS+ plus the normal statistics.
