Desean Jackson vs. Eddie Royal

Ok guys. With my homeboy Jcc and biggest Eagles fan I personally Know (besides myself of course) being out of the friggin country for our HUGE week 2 matchup against, wait who is it again?? Darmmit uts at the tip of my tongue..Oh yea the COWBOYS!!! I'd figure I'd pick up some slack and step on on my comments and now Im even taking a shot at my very own original post. Well its quite a simple post in all actuality, and basically just a question that I'd like to hear some elaborations on instead of just one word answers.

So, the draft took place in April. Leading up to the draft there was constant talk about the WR class, and who had 1st round grades, who would be the first taken, how many of these wideouts were basically no brainers, yadda yadda yadda. All the hype seemed to be around the bigger sized WR's namely Limas Sweed, Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly, James Hardy, and some smaller guys like Desean Jackson, Eddie Royal, Donnie Avery, and maybe one or 2 others. It seemed as if almost all of the Eagles fans (and actually other teams fans too) were all willing to spend their 1sr rounders on the likes of Devin Thomas, and Limas Sweed at the least. Supposedly Desean had a 1st round grade on him as well due to his unbelievable speed, mainly as a PR/KR but wasnt getting a ton of praise as a WR due to his lack of size. It seemed as if the same story goes for Eddie Royal, but his concern was lack of size as well but he was being described as more of a NFL WR than just special teams player.

As the draft loomed closer, I was hearing mixed signals about Desean, while Royals rep seemed to stay steady and not take many twists and turns. I was hearing at one point the Eagles had no shot at Desean at No. 19 in the first, and then all of the sudden his size began to be stressed more (I mean dude IS small), than started hearing about his "attitude problem", his "unwillingness to practice/work as hard" as other players on his college teams, butting heads with his coach and consequently not getting glowing reviews from coach....But then is when the signals started becoming more mixed with the collaboration of sorts with Jerry Rice. Rice insisted in numerous Youtube clips that Desean was an "Unreal route runner", "excellent route runner", "speed beyond belief", and that the kid was realizing he needed a major attittude change and was accepting that to the fullest degree and hearing Rice say this kid has all the potential in the world to be "one of the best" was downright exciting to me, yet I still wasnt sold on the kid, and was one of those fans rooting for the Eagles to grab up one of the Big targets with a FIRST ROUND pick at that LOL. Shows why The guys who are in the Front Offices are there and I'm not. :)

So now that thats out of the way I'm going to jump ahead a little bit. The Eagles ended up selecting Desean as the 7th overall receiver takin in the draft will I believe Eddie Royal was selected as the 5th overall WR taken (could be wrong there)....I had mixed feelings due to his size and the wanting of the "big guy" who the Eagles passed on all of them with their pick on Trevor Laws, but at the same time was excited to actually have a threat at PR and possibly KR, so I didnt really no what to think or how exactly to think and or feel. Lets fast forward since Ive already gone on for quite a bit.

Desean Jackson looked GREAT in the preseason, but it is the preseason so I was wary, yet at the same time had this feeling I just couldnt seem to let go that this kid could be VERY special. Certainly the preseason performance matched with the praise from the greatest receiver of all time helped that feeling but it didnt change. On the flip side, I hadnt heard much of anything about Eddie Royal during the preseason, but at the same time didnt pay much attention to the Bronco's.

Soooo....Not that we've got one official reg season game under our belts, the 2 WR's from this years draft class who have "emerged" so far have been not Sweed, not Kelly, Not Thomas, not Hardy, but the 2 small guys in Jackson and Royal. Granted their ooponents werent the best competition in the world, they are both rookies and both had excellent first games of their NFL careers. Eddie Royal had something like 8-9 receptions for close to 150 yds, and Desean had 6 for 107, as well as 97 PR yards and was one little tackle on TWO seperate PR's from taking them to the house. So i know its as early as early can be to try to predict a rookies first season performance after just one reg season game, but thats all Im asking for here...What are your predictions on who will be the better NFL player in their rookie season from what you've seem so far between Desean Jackson and Eddie Royal and the reasons youve came to your predictions....If at all possible, if Eagles fans and Broncos fans can try to put their hopes aside for the sake of some unbiased opinions I'd appreciate it but it may also be impossible to do so ALL of your input is MORE than welcome from fans of ALL teams. At this point its almost a wild guess, but both kids look like they can play so far in their short careers, so Im interested in hearing your reasoning behind your picks!!! Thanks for all input, keep in mind this is one of my first posts so Id also appreciate it if you wouldnt rip me to shreds haha, Im just asking your opinion on who will have the better rookie year and or NFL career whatever you choose to go with! Thanks for reading and good luck to ALL your teams this weekend!! Well it would be kinda stupid to wish my opponent luck, so I wish the Cowboys a healthy, fairly competitive game!!! Seems fair lol!! Ok guys, again I appreciate all your input and look forward to all the Yardbarkers opinions, both from their respective teams fans, and from an outside point of view who have no biased towards either player!!! Lemme know what yall think!!!! Thanks...

Scary News for Abiamiri

I was very concerned when initially hearing about the injury to the wrist of Big Victor Abiamiri. Mainly due to the nature of his position and how vital the hand/wrist is to being successful at the position...He was going to be an important part of the rotation at D-End and now it looks like this can be potentially season ending. I really think the Eagles have the DE's on roster to fill his role to an extent, and maybe McDougal will actually show why the Eagles have kept him around for so long after contributing absolutely nothing over his career to this point, of course not all being his fault. He has dealt with injuries, a shooting, and more injuries. Lets hope this can be a blessing in disguise and a miracle of sorts can occur and McDougal can blossom into the player Andy Reid coveted enough to draft so high in the first round so many years ago. So what do you fellow Ealges fans think knowing now, that Big Vic is going to miss atleast a nice chunk of the regular season? Do you think they will manage to produce opposite Trent the Beast Cole? All I know is a D End getting screws put into his wrist and ligament surgery as well as a dislocation has got to be one of the worst injuries a player at DE can sustain, but lets hope the wonderful medical staff the Eagles have assembled can help this thing heal up quickly. You can check the link to the website to get the latest updates and details regarding Abiamiri's injury. Thanks for reading and thanks for your input...Go Eagles!!!
