Wes Welker: "Asante Samuel chose money over championships"

Wes Welker, WR of the New England Patriots, said that he was disappointed that they could not resign Asante Samuel. He said that when signing with the Eagles he chose money over championships. Samuel has two championships already as Welker has zero. So what is Welker saying about the Eagles? Finally an athlete that tells it like it is.of course he went for money why else would he go its not championships,if it were championships he would have stayed in NEW ENGLAND.Philly hasn't won jack S*@T AND THEY NEVER WILL ,even with samuel in the backfield.Hes gonna realize that the other 10 guys on defense made him better when hes getting burned left and right by the receivers he faces every sunday.

Mazzagatti apologizes to Johnson

Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler weren't the only ones settling "Unfinished Business" Saturday night at EliteXC: Lawler vs. Smith II. Anthony Johnson ran into Steve Mazzagatti last night for the first time since Johnson's controversial TKO loss to Kevin Burns last Saturday night.FightLine.com was on hand when Johnson approached Mazzagatti at ringside. Mazzagatti and Johnson shook hands and hugged. Mazzagatti apologized to Johnson and noted that it was "a bad call" and Johnson immediately accepted, saying it was all good. THIS WAS REDICULOUS .HOW COULD A FIGHTER THAT GOT POCKED IN THE EYE ACTUALLY LOSE THE FIGHT.IF ANYTHING IT SHOULD HAVE STOPPED FOR UNABLE TO CONTINUE .THAT WAS A BULL CALL IF I EVER SEEN ONE

ANOTHER BUM LEAVES UFC GOOD RIDDANCE Sources: Affliction to sign Ortiz

Sources: Affliction to sign Ortiz

Posted: Tuesday July 29, 2008 08:27AM ET

Sources have told Yahoo! Sports that free agent Tito Ortiz will fight Renato "Babalu" Sobral in the co-main event at Affliction's next fight card, on Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas. The main event will feature a heavyweight bout between WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski. Affliction vice president Tom Atencio would not confirm the Ortiz-Babalu fight. He said details for the fight card will be released during an Aug. 6 news conference that most likely will be held in Las Vegas. Atencio also indicated that he didn't think Affliction could speak with Ortiz until Aug. 4 because of a 60-day non-compete clause in Ortiz's UFC contract. Ortiz's last fight for UFC was on May 24 at UFC 84. If the 60-day clause is accurate, the deal ended last weekend. Atencio said the biggest stumbling block for an Ortiz deal would be the financial terms.

DONT WORRY UFC FANS ONLY LOSERS ARE LEAVING THE UFC

I cant stop laughing when everyday these ex UFC losers are leaving the primetime business of mma known as the ufc and going to affliction and elitexc. The guys that are going to these differant fight clubs are losers. Scott Smith elitexc loser. Tim Sylvia to affliction loser. Andrei Arlovski to affliction loser. Name one good fighter that has left that is any good. What i noticed in the last few weeks is that all the guys leaving the ufc are all washed up bums or guys that cant hack it in the real mma octagon. The guys that are leaving the UFC cant handle themselves in the ring ever or anymore and know they are washed up.Look for the loser Tito Ortiz to join another group too since hes all washed up.Good Bye Losers WE DONT WANT YOU IN THE UFC ANYWAY.We want fighters that can handle the fights ,real fighters

Charles Barkley tips well, pays busboy's tuition to Temple

Not sure how BDL missed this story yesterday a€" oh, that's right, we were busy setting the unofficial NBA marathon live chat record a€" but hey, better late than never.

Charles Barkley is giving his money away again. No, no, no, don't judge! This time, instead of feeding quarters into some slot machine or doubling-down on-- at the blackjack table, Barkley's picked up the tuition for a busboy at a restaurant in Philly. From the Philadelphia Daily News:

"Sir Charles told [Christian] Abate he would like to help him with his tuition, and Abate wasn't sure how to respond. Barkley didn't give him much time, telling Abate that he had the length of Barkley's meal to decide. Abate wisely accepted.

"He's a nice kid," Barkley said of Abate on Friday. "He was working with kids, I loved that he wanted to be a teacher, and I wanted to help him," Barkley told us by phone between stops on a flight to Reno where he was making a speech.

While the little-more-than-15% tip may seem particularly special, it's not so unusual for Sir Charles. In fact, the lovable goof has given at least $3 million to schools and education in his home state of Alabama. He's a giver, not a golfer.

As SportsByBrooks so eloquently put it, Barkley is just like Robin Hood: "He tries to take from the rich, but since he's not very good at it, he gives to the poor out of his own pocket." So noble. Thump Bump, Chuck.

LeBron likely to sit out U.S. exhibition vs. Canada Friday

LAS VEGAS -- U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski says injured forward LeBron James is a "95 percent no-go" for Friday's exhibition against Canada.

James, who has a mild right ankle sprain, was held out of a scrimmage for the second straight day on Thursday, although he did participate in five-on-none drills.

"He hasn't had contact," Krzyzewski said. "We're better off giving him a few days."

James injured his ankle when he landed on Kevin Durant's foot during a Tuesday scrimmage between Team USA and a select squad of young NBA players. On Thursday, James said the ankle had improved every day since.

"When it happened, I could barely walk on it, and it progressed throughout the night," James said. "It's feeling a lot better. If I had to [play], I would."

Winslow reports to Browns camp despite ongoing contract concerns

BEREA, Ohio -- Kellen Winslow could be home resting or relaxing on a beach in California with a cold drink as his teammates sweat through grueling two-a-day practices.

If he desired, the Pro Bowl tight end, who wants the Cleveland Browns to tear up his contract which still has three years left, could be just about anywhere but training camp.

Winslow

Instead, Winslow is where he's happiest -- on the field.

"My job," Winslow said Thursday following the team's first workout in full pads, "is to just be out here and play football. I don't want to be a distraction."

For a while, that's all he was.

Winslow, who came to the NFL with a fiery reputation, missed-- games as a rookie in 2004 after breaking his leg. He was then sidelined for all the next season following a near-fatal motorcycle accident. But in the past two years, the 25-year-old has become one of the game's top tight ends, fulfilling the promise that the Hall of Famer's son always had

UFC, Spike close to TV deal

The UFC and Spike TV are close to finalizing a deal that would put October's UFC 89 event on free basic cable -- a week before the recently announced UFC 90 event that will likely air on pay per view. A source close to the event tells MMAjunkie.com that the UFC 89 announcement is expected soon, though Spike TV today had no comment. AFFLICTION AINT GOT NOTHING ON UFC.

Giant: Cowboys trying to buy Super Bowl

The Giants are a bit perturbed, not only that nobody is picking them to repeat as Super Bowl winners or even get back to the Super Bowl, but that every time they look up, somebody else is calling for the Cowboys to win the NFC East even though the Giants went into Texas Stadium in January and eliminated Dallas from the playoffs. "Maybe it's because Dallas tried to buy a Super Bowl this year," Giants defensive end Justin Tuck said right after reporting to camp Thursday. Can you buy the Super Bowl? "I don't think so," Tuck said. GIANTS STOP CRYING YOU WON THE SUPERBOWL EVEN THOUGH YOU SHOULDNT HAVE .IF HARRISON COULD HAVE BATTED ONE BALL DOWN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER .

Franklin, Henderson, and Parisyan Face Stiff Tests in UFC 88 Bouts

Three of mixed martial arts' biggest stars a€" former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin, former PRIDE two-division champ Dan Henderson, and longtime welterweight contender Karo Parisyan a€" will be pushed to the limit in bouts just made official for September 6th's UFC 88 card in Atlanta.

Franklin will return to the light heavyweight division for the first time in over three years when he takes on The Ultimate Fighter 3 standout Matt 'The Hammer' Hamill, who is coming off the biggest win of his career over Tim Boetsch in April.

Henderson looks to fight his way back into the 185-pound title mix when he battles once-beaten grappling wizard Rousimar Palhares, who made quite an impression on UFC fans in May when he submitted out veteran Ivan Salaverry in one round.

Parisyan will also be tested in his welterweight bout against Japan's Yoshiyuki Yoshida in what may be the greatest clash of judo black belts ever seen in the Octagon.

BJ PENN VS. GSP

I know after penns fight with steroid boy Serk he said he wanted gsp. I like penn, but lets get real gsp is in a class of his own.It will be a long while before he loses his belt.If that bum matt serra didn't hit gsp in the back of the head he never would have had the belt in the first place.Matt "the loser"serra champion 04-07-2007 thru 04-19-2008 one fight between belts and he lost it.Back to penn . Penn will get embarrassed if he fights gsp. just like hughes embarrassed him with a crucifix move and punched him 40 times before it was stopped.

lets keep the UFC growing and growing

The UFC is one of the best sports in america ,and it just keeps on growing .Its not too late fro anyone who wants to learn about it and get into it.Its nice to be a fan like myself and watch teh sport whne it wa nothing, and watch it grow into this huge sporting event now.Boxing has nothing on this sport and it never will.If anyone would like to share there thoughts on the UFC feel fre too .I like to hear from other fans like myself on what there thoughts are about the fights, fighters, and who ranks at the top of there list.
