Eagles vs. Redskins

It is hard to believe that the Eagles could not sustain a 14-0 lead against the Redskins. The first half was outstanding we looked strong, healthy and focused. Now somewhere between the first half and halftime we just lost everything. We looked a mess the second half, dropping passes, missing tackles, letting people just run right past us and to top it all off we cannot even get into the in zone a couple of inches away.

I have heard Eagle fans gripe and complain about the Andy Reid, the playmakers and the defensive coordinator. I must agree that they all need to go so the Eagles can have a fresh start. Oh yeah who ever made the decision to challenge the TD made by the Redskins was an IDIOT! The Eagles need a fresh start meaning everyone is healthy, getting a new coach as well as playmakers and defensive coordinator. I hope the Eagles can get it together and quick!

The NFL Cuts

All people dream of something whether its being a professional athlete, working for Wall Street or making mega bucks like Bill Gates, whatever the dream is there are many obstacles and challenges to be faced. For most of the athletes in high school or college, their dream is to proceed on to the pros and become superstars. However in reality we all cannot be superstars and I think the NFL cut sessions makes that very clear.

Imagine going out into the hot blazing sun with full padding, a helmet and nothing but hopes in making the final team roster. For weeks you have been working out, going to two-a-days, putting forth your best effort, doing everything the coaching staff and veteran players ask of you only to find out that at the end of the camp your name was called to be cut. And in that one moment all your thoughts, feelings and emotions hit you like a surprise hurricane and you're left with nothing but disbelief, now all you can think about is "what now?"

For some players they may have the opportunity to be on the practice squad, others may be picked by another team and the few who are left will come to face the fact that their pro careers are no longer reality but now a mere dream. My heart goes out to those who did not make the final roster, however congrats to all those who did make the final roster (a job well done). So whatever team you play for, I wish everyone nothing but luck and may the best team win!

The 2008 Olympics

August 8, 2008 marks the official day the Olympic Games begin. I could only imagine what it must feel like to carry the honor representing our country. It is all so exciting to watch the different sport competitions, all of our favorite athletes competing for the gold to once again establish U.S.A. as the dominant country in athletics. Let me just say good luck to all our U.S.A. Olympians, represent us well.

The NBA Hustle

Ok ladies & gentlemen, it is about that time for the "NBA Hustle". You know the time were the players & coaches are re-negotiating contracts, making trades, picking up free agents, benching some players for others not to mention giving some players the boot. But however you view it everyone is hustling trying to get to a team they feel can win a championship as well as pay them handsomely.

So let's take a time-out to review what has been circling about some of the world class athletes. As we have all read Baron Davis is now officially a Los Angeles Clipper and man have there been some mixed feelings about this deal. James Posey from the 2008 Championship Boston Celtics team has been a hot topic lately in terms of where he will be for the 2009 NBA season. It appears that Posey will likely not be apart of the 2009 Boston Celtics roster.

On another note the infamous Chris Paul has re-signed with the New Orleans Hornets as well as the head coach Byron Scott. Now moving over to the Washington Wizards, Gilbert Arenas took a nice little pay cut to keep teammate Antawn Jamison on the Wizards roster. Some may say this move by Gilbert was gracious, thoughtful and modest, however other's say he should have went for his money and let Jamison worry about Jamison but I'll let all of you be the judge of that. Transitioning over to Shawn Marion and the whole issue of will the Miami Heat trade him or keep him? But people let's not forget that Marion was one of the key players for the Phoenix Suns before he got traded.

It was in high hopes that Marion would join the Miami Heat roster to provide assistance to Dwayne Wade but I'm afraid it is going to take more that Shawn Marion to help the Heat bounce back from the horrible performance season in 2008. Shawn Marion is a great player and it is my hopes he will find a team that appreciates and respects his talents and skills. We could go on and on about all the trades and deals being made during this "NBA Hustle" but one thing's for sure, money will be made and there will never be a dull moment.

Venus vs. Serena

In the 2008 Wimbledon match the two finalists were of course the two Williams sisters. Venus received her fifth Wimbledon singles crown since she last won in 2001. After Venus's win in the Grand Slam in 2001 the tables turned and it was her kid sister Serena who became the dominant tennis player between he two.

The match was intense and exciting to watch. However, when it was all over and Venus claimed her victory, Serena was not happy with the results. But of course who would be happy with a loss to an older sibling. I would like to congratulate Venus on her win and many accomplishments but more importantly for being a gracious as well as an outstanding big sister. When interviewed, Venus spoke very highly of Serena and was very modest with the win. Oh but lets not forget that Serena was wearing the facial expression "I cannot believe I just lost to her!" Again Venus was very classy with her victory and for that she has proven she is indeed a true champion.

Slump of The Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals have hit an all time slump. I cannot believe we got slaughtered by the Orioles (9-1). I guess you could say that part of this slump is the lack of unhealthy players, The shortstop Christian Guzman is the only player who has been able to remain healthy. The team also took a tough loss with Milledge getting hurt in the last game. He has shown tremendous progress in the Center field. All I can say is that I hope the Nationals can pull themselves out of this slump but until then I will continue to attend games and cheer on my Nationals.

The Champs are Here!

June 17, 2008, the Celtics have proven themselves to be the true champions. Last night's game was probably the best game 6 ever played in the NBA finals. The Celtics were unstoppable. I must say big ups to Rajon Rondo who has had an outstanding season. As a young point guard it's not easy barring the all the responsibility that comes along with being a point guard nor is it easy meeting the expectations of the phenomenal veteran players who are apart of the Celtic roster. The BIG 3 Pierce (17 points), Allen (26 points) and Garnett (26 points) have restored the Celtic reputation as being the best along with adding their own chapter to Celtic history.

A round of applause is needed for the incredible Celtic bench. It was absolutely amazing how the entire Celtic bench contributed in some way to last night's victory over the Lakers. However, I must say a special thanks and applause to James Posey who did a sensational job on both ends of the floor. Posey was able to contain Kobe on defense while knocking down key 3 pointers on offense to increase the Celtic lead. Congratulations to Doc Rivers and his coaching staff for a well coached season and congrats to all the Celtic players who played extremely well to earn their championship title.

Just a Thought

It is the Indian ancestors who teach us all the value of the earth, of its riches, of its herbs and of its beauty. As an African American it is the ancestral tribes of Africa who collectively teach us the value of African heritage, a heritage which comes in many different forms of ceremonial dances, foods and historical events. However, what teaches us the value of people? Is it after a tragic event such as death or is it after the people have exited our lives in search for the respect of being valued? This is a question I often ask myself to better understand why I value the people in my life. I have come to the conclusion that it is not the teachings of a specific group of people or society as a whole that teaches us to value people. But rather the opportunities we have to experience life changing moment with the people we value. The life changing moments teaches us all the value of growth within ourselves as well as others, which in turn teaches us to value the people who play an important role in our lives. So I ask you, "What life changing moments have you encountered that have taught you the value of people?"

I just wanted to say its great being a basketball fanatic and I love watching the WNBA as well as the NBA. I think all the athletes are amazing. It is great that we are able to blog with these professional athletes and although we may not always get an answer right away I still think they do a good job of trying to keep the fans updated with events that have taken place within their lives as well as careers. I find it absolutely incredible how these pro athletes play as many games as they do and still find the time to hang with their families, as well as blog with their fans. My hat is tipped to all the pro athletes, may God bless you and your families as well. Oh yeah and thanks Rajon Rondo for making a special effort to keep your fans updated with the lastest news and events as they occur, mad love goes out to you!
