There's something different about Daniel Snyder and the Washington Redskins. Redskins writer Brian Mulholland says that maybe, just maybe, Snyder has learned from his mistakes and is going about building a championship the right way, by making smart moves instead of splashy deals.

Three things the Washington Redskins need this year are defensive linemen, defensive linemen and defensive linemen. Why? To get a legit pass rush from the defensive line. Greg Trippiedi says players the Skins want might not be available when they draft, so they will go bargain hunting and result in an average unit.

Marcus Washington is going to continue to do his thing. He's going to rush the passer well, he's going to shut down opposing tight ends, and he's going to eat up blockers on running plays so that London Fletcher can flow to the ball. But, he might not be with the team when the Redskins are ready to make a championship run says Greg Trippiedi.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. The Redskins finally bit the bullet and dumped dead weight receiver Brandon Lloyd. Now they only have the $7 million dead money hit in 2009. Washington really should have seen this coming. Lloyd's numbers were never any better than discredited Rod Gardner and last season, he was even out-performed by ex-Redskin Taylor Jacobs.

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi wrote " Shawn Springs is a guy who brings a ton of consistency to the Redskins secondary along with two major question marks that must be reviewed every offseason. The first one is obvious, and the second is even more obvious, though it manages to slip the mind of the average NFL afficienado. Question 1) Can we afford the services of Springs? Question 2) Are we going to be getting the type of on-field returns that we are expecting from him?"

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi wrote "A quick hypothetical question for all those Hog Heaven readers out there: you have a 35 yard Field Goal attempt in the closing seconds of the first half of a Week 17 game Redskins vs. Cowboys. You have on your roster supereverythingclutch Kicker Adam Vinatieri, and kickoff specialist Shaun Suisham on your active roster. Who do you want taking the kick? "Believe it or not, if we are to believe Suisham's FG percentage over a year and a half in Washington, he's more likely to hit the hypothetical kick than Vinatieri is!"

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi wrote "For just a moment, bask in the pure absurdity that is Randy Thomas' release fee. If Thomas got a career ending injury at some point during 2008, the Redskins would still be on the hook for $12-14 million in dead cap. "Yeah, Thomas is pretty much a Redskin until the day he retires."

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi wrote "[Todd] Wade proved to be up to the challenge physically, in the rare event he could find the man he was supposed to block. The hits on Jason Campbell skyrocketed when compared to last year, and Wade was the main culprit. The English language does not have a term to describe what a linebacker, Mike Vrabel, did to him when they met in Week Eight."

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi wrote " James Thrash's numbers really can't decline any further if he is going to be on the team again this year. Anthony Mix is going to get a roster spot, and if the team signs DJ Hackett, then he needs a roster spot. James Thrash, at best, is looking like the 5th receiver at this time. Of course, that would ensure him a roster spot for one more season."

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi wrote "If Leigh Torrance is going to develop some semblance of cover skils, it's going to be done this offseason, and he's going to have to roll into camp with them. If he can't impress [Washington's] new coaching staff in camp, there isn't a whole lot of expectation for his future on this team, and in this league."

Pearson Prioleau's time in Washington has really resembled the classic hard luck tale. He just couldn't catch a break. Unfortunately for Pierson, the man who brought him in here is out, and Prioleau's contract has expired, meaning whatever luck he had here has run out. With no serious track record established in Washington after 3 years here, look for him to sign in Jacksonville by the end of the Spring.

Writer Rick Schwartz asks "is this a professional football team or an exclusive country club where you have to know the Vinnster to get in? Is this Front Office looking for professionals? Or are they looking for a group of overwhelmed patsies who will be thrilled just to be on the big stage and will stand back and let the Danny & Vinny Circus bring on the next elephant act?"

Clinton Portis arrived in Washington in a bizarre trade, but Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi says that he could end his career as No. 1 running back in yardage. Portis will only be 30 when his contract with the Redskins expires.

Redskins writer Greg Trippiedi says "Moss is going to be 29, still a very capable age for a wide receiver. A quicker, more timing based passing game should fit his speedy skill set well. We will know by November if Moss is ever going to be a shadow of his former self again."
