AccuScore Closer Report - 7/23

With the trade deadline looming and injuries to several players, bullpen situations remain in flux throughout baseball. Jonathan Lee takes a look at recent moves and ranks all of MLB's closers.

Arizona Shores Up Bullpen, Acquires Rauch

Arizona has acquired Washington closer Jon Rauch to shore up its shaky bullpen. The Nationals will probably now turn to former Dodger prospect Joel Hanrahan in its bullpen.

Back on the Job

The All-Star break was last week, but several players are finally getting back to work. Troy Percival and J.J. Putz came off the disabled list over the weekend while other closers are having their own injury issues. And what does the presence of Ray Durham in Milwaukee mean for Rickie Weeks?

Adam Loewen Tries to Channel Rick Ankiel

Former Orioles pitcher will try to follow in Rick Ankiel's footsteps and become an everyday outfielder.

AccuScore: How would teams fare with Favre?

AccuScore's NFL simulator was used to analyze how much Brett Favre would help a variety of teams rumored to be possible destinations. The simulations do not expect Favre to have as much impact on other teams as one might expect simply because he would be joining a team just months before the start of the season. It obviously takes far more than eight weeks to master a new offense.

AccuScore Closer Report - 7/15

Now that baseball has hit the All-Star break, it is a good time to assess the bullpen situations across baseball. Eleven different relievers were named to the All-Star team, but that doesn't mean they were the most valuable relief pitchers in fantasy.

All Star Game Lives Up to Hype

The game lasted 15 innings, but the result was the same. The AL came out on top for the 10th time in 11 tries, and the game was well worth watching as compelling theater.

Starting Pitchers Tabbed for All-Star Game

Ben Sheets and Cliff Lee have been named starters for Tuesday's All-Star Game, but are they the best options? Also, Carlos Marmol was named as an injury replacement, but he is undeserving of a spot ahead of several higher profile and some lower profile (and better) pitchers.

Why Elton Brand Picked Philly

Clipper fans will tell you that Elton Brand left the Clippers for the Sixers because of money, Falk, etc. While these reasons may be true, there are legitimate on the court reasons for Brand wanting to play with the up and coming Sixers.

AccuScore Closer Report - 7/7

There is a new look to the Closer Report this week with expanded coverage of bullpen situations around baseball and rankings for the top fantasy closers and middle relievers. This week AccuScore analyst looks at the All-Star relievers, and has a problem with the selection of one player in particular. Also, the trade deadline is approaching so which closers could be swapping uniforms in the near future?

Almost Perfect

Hiroki Kuroda was almost perfect Monday night shutting down 27 of 28 batters in a 3-0 win against the Braves. The Dodgers will need him to continue his strong recent performance as they battle for first place in the weak NL West. Damaso Marte got the first save in Pittsburgh post- Matt Capps, and youngster Ricky Nolasco and Ubaldo Jimenez continued their strong recent runs.

Capps Down and Out

Matt Capps is out for 2 months leaving a void in the Pittsburgh bullpen. Clayton Kershaw also gets sent down to the minors while Jay Bruce is making a comeback in performance.

Dodgers are Walking Wounded

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been a disappointment all season. The off-season signings of manger Joe Torre and slugging outfielder Andruw Jones brought optimism to Chavez Ravine, but that has morphed into a 38-43 record at the halfway point. Torre has not been able to ignite a punchless offense, and Jones is among 10 players currently on the disabled list. Can the Boys in Blue turn it around and when will their wounded get back on the field?
