The Great Q.B. Mistake!

The Hands down best player in the 2007 NFL draft is a wide receiver. The problem with that is the Oakland Raiders depth chart shows us that they are deep at that position & very thin at Quarter Back. So the question becomes do you draft the best player or do you draft the best player for your team?

AAA Yanks Rotation Is Best In MiLB

This is my projected triple-A five-man starting staff for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees. The desciptions are collected from scouting reports around the internet.

Philip Hughes, RHP: "The total package, making him the best pitching prospect in the game. His 92-96 mph fastball has good movement to go along with outstanding location, and his hard curveball gives him a second major-league-quality out pitch. In A Perfect World, He Becomes: An absolute ace--a legitimate No. 1 on any team."

Humberto Sanchez, RHP: "He has a 92-95 mph sinking fastball, a 90 mph slider, and a 12-6 curveball. Sanchez broke out in a big way last season, posting a 2.63 ERA and 129:47 K:BB between Double- and Triple-A. There aren't many better pitching prospects. He probably ranks as the Yankees' No. 2 pitching prospect & No. 3 overall behind Philip Hughes and OF Jose Tabata."

Tyler Clippard, RHP: "Clippard finished at 12-10, 3.35 in 28 starts for Double-A Trenton, with a 175/55 K/BB ratio in 166 innings. Regarded (by many) as the next major-league ready starter behind top-prospect Philip Hughes, Clippard will likely spend the 2007 season at Triple-A after a strong 2006 campaign at Double-A Trenton."

Ross Ohlendorf, RHP: "Ohlendorf is one of several bright pitching prospects of the Diamondbacks, traded to the Yankees for Randy Johnson. A Chris Young starter kit, Ohlendorf is a tall control pitcher out of Princeton. He doesn't have Young's stuff, but held his own at Double-A by keeping mistakes -- walks and homers -- to a bare minimum."

Jeff Karstens, RHP: "Karstens, despite not being a physically imposing figure or possessing plus stuff, has become one of the more solid pitching prospects in the Yankees farm system."

The Oakland Raiders Are "Not That Many Players Away"

The main reason for this article to exist is the general feeling I pick up from other blogger's or Raiders fans that the best thing to do with the number one pick is to trade down. The thinking here being that the Raiders are so bad they need a large overhaul. While I could not argue last years results would (at the casual glance) seem to prove this point, a deeper look may stoke hope in the hearts of Raiders fans.

Also it was written before Lane Kiffin was hired as head coach & before Brian Brohm choose not leave for the NFL.

If Kiffins The Man? Then Heres My Plan!

Lane Kiffin has a five year contract, an owner with a passion for winning that hasn't been quenched in far too long, & a team that receives no love loss from the media. I believe he will get the vice grips taken off by Al Davis, at least for the near future, & this next three months will go a long way towards how well mr. Kiffin performs. Many bloggers and commentators will make these decisions for him and pooh pooh his actual coaching hires, trades & draft picks. Still the questions will persist, what to do about Randy Moss, is Lamont Jordan healthy enough to play, how to fix the O-line & why on earth should we not do the smart thing and draft JaMarcus Russell?

Moving Moss Should Mean 2nd Rounder

New Oakland Raider head coach Lane Kiffin is currently in coach staffing mode, so trades are probably the furthest thing from his mind right now. Especially when you consider that the story out of the senior bowl (that Randy Moss won't take Kiffins phone calls) is completely unsubstantiated. Still, the news that Brett Farve confirmed he is for a trade to get allegedly disgruntled wide receiver Randy Moss out of Oakland & into Green Bay, Moss's worth must now be evaluated.

Word is Oakland wants a third rounder for him. A little low in my opinion. True his numbers went down but so did the team. QBs didn't have time to throw, RBs were hurt or poorly used, no commitment to running on first down, 7 step drops lead to QBs holding on to the ball too long & getting' sacked, and yes WRs ran poor routes. Still, they didn't drop any more passes than the Colts, & Moss lead his team in TDs.

WRs always have big egos, it comes with the position. I have no doubt Moss would thrive with a veteran QB, like Farve, who he has a relationship with, & who already has a threat at WR with Donald Driver. This means that his worth should be pretty high for an 8 & 8 team who could be one or two players away from the playoffs. Lets not forget, the NFC south is not a strong division. If the Raiders throw in a third round pick the Packers should be willing to give up a first rounder, but I feel they should give up a second rounder straight up any how.
