This is my projected triple-A five-man starting staff for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees. The desciptions are collected from scouting reports around the internet.
Philip Hughes, RHP: "The total package, making him the best pitching prospect in the game. His 92-96 mph fastball has good movement to go along with outstanding location, and his hard curveball gives him a second major-league-quality out pitch. In A Perfect World, He Becomes: An absolute ace--a legitimate No. 1 on any team."
Humberto Sanchez, RHP: "He has a 92-95 mph sinking fastball, a 90 mph slider, and a 12-6 curveball. Sanchez broke out in a big way last season, posting a 2.63 ERA and 129:47 K:BB between Double- and Triple-A. There aren't many better pitching prospects. He probably ranks as the Yankees' No. 2 pitching prospect & No. 3 overall behind Philip Hughes and OF
Jose Tabata."
Tyler Clippard, RHP: "Clippard finished at 12-10, 3.35 in 28 starts for Double-A Trenton, with a 175/55 K/BB ratio in 166 innings. Regarded (by many) as the next major-league ready starter behind top-prospect Philip Hughes, Clippard will likely spend the 2007 season at Triple-A after a strong 2006 campaign at Double-A Trenton."
Ross Ohlendorf, RHP: "Ohlendorf is one of several bright pitching prospects of the Diamondbacks, traded to the Yankees for Randy Johnson. A Chris Young starter kit, Ohlendorf is a tall control pitcher out of Princeton. He doesn't have Young's stuff, but held his own at Double-A by keeping mistakes -- walks and homers -- to a bare minimum."
Jeff Karstens, RHP: "Karstens, despite not being a physically imposing figure or possessing plus stuff, has become one of the more solid pitching prospects in the Yankees farm system."
