Professional Cricketers' Association chairman Dougie Brown believes it is "highly unlikely" the Champions Trophy will be played next year as planned following its postponement yesterday.
The eight-team tournament was due to take place in Pakistan between September 12 and 28 but the International Cricket Council took the decision to reschedule the event for October 2009.
Security concerns led to the postponement and South Africa had already pulled out for that reason, while players' associations from England, Australia and New Zealand had expressed reservations about playing in Pakistan at the present time.
However, Brown questions whether the tournament can be slotted into an already busy schedule.
He told Radio Five Live: "I don't know how they can possibly reschedule it because you have to have a window of opportunity for all the cricketing nations to be available to play at a given stage next year.
"I would have thought it is highly unlikely to happen.
"Yes, there is a lot of cricket at the moment, it is an exciting time for cricket as well but to find time to play major tournaments when they have been cancelled for whatever reason I would think is nigh on impossible."
