Five post-bye week wishes for the Titans

The bye week is over.

With the rest of the AFC South's teams winning their games yesterday, the pressure is on the Tennessee Titans to continue to build upon their division lead. That means playing with the same level of intensity and passion that's served as the engine behind their success thus far.

With that said, here are 5 things that I'd like to see from the Titans as they embark upon a journey that will hopefully have the postseason as its final destination.

The pros and cons of trading for a WR

With the Tuesday, October 14th NFL trade deadline looming, two of the league's more talented wide outs; Roy Williams and T.J. "Who's your momma" Houshmandzadeh, could be ripe for the taking.

The talented receivers' current employers, the Lions and the Bengals, have combined for 0 victories on the season and both putrid franchises may be willing to sacrifice a skilled receiver in return for a jump-start on rebuilding via a high draft pick.

Should a team such as the Tennessee Titans, who may be a de facto #1 WR away from being a truly elite squad, jump into the potential Williams/Houshmandzadeh sweepstakes?

Total Titans' all-time franchise team: WR

This franchise has a rich history of quality wide outs, from the AFL-days to the pass-happy Run & Shoot offenses.

As the case with last summer's all-time Titan-era team, three wide receivers will make our all-time squad. The top two finishers in this week's vote will make the cut, and for the rest of the guys, they will compete in the next poll for the #3 WR spot.

Let's introduce the contestants, shall we?

Resilient Titans remain undefeated with 13-10 win

The Tennessee Titans improved to 5-0 with a gutsy 13-10 win over the hated Baltimore Ravens.

Facing a hostile crowd fueled by the performance of a physical Raven defense, Kerry Collins capped off an 11-play, 80-yard late 4th quarter drive with a game-winning TD strike to forgotten veteran TE Alge Crumpler.

More thoughts on today's victory, after the jump.

Titans vs. Ravens: Keys to victory

The Tennessee Titans will reacquaint themselves with an old rival in this weekend's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. It seems like only yesterday when the two teams clashed at least bi-annually in memorable AFC Central and playoff battles.

Here are the keys to a Titan victory over the Ratbirds on Sunday.

Searching for Alge Crumpler

The acquisition of former Pro Bowl TE Alge Crumpler was one of the first moves made by the Tennessee Titans at the onset of free agency.

Despite bad knees, Crumpler was a proven commodity at the TE position and the expectation was for Algernon to play a valuable role in a Titan passing game searching for playmakers.

Through the first quarter of the 2008 season, Alge's contributions to the Titans' vertical attack have been minimal: five catches in four games, no touchdowns.

Where's Alge?

Total Titans' all-time franchise team: FB

As expected, Hall of Famer Earl Campbell defeated fan favorite Eddie George in the battle for the highly coveted all-time franchise team RB spot.

Next up in our series of polls is the unglamorous albeit important FB position.

Opportunistic Titans defeat Vikings 30-17

Turnovers often decide the outcome of competitive football games. Today was no exception, as four Viking miscues led to three Titan touchdowns in Tennessee's 30-17 win over the Norsemen.

With the win, the Titans are now 4-0 for the first time in franchise history.

My thoughts on the game, after the jump.

Titans vs. Vikings: Keys to victory

After three consecutive wins against AFC opponents, the Tennessee Titans will go for their fourth victory in a row against their first NFC competitor: the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikes, who hail from the area known as the Twin Cities, appear to be the Titans' twin in terms of the way their team is constructed. Both teams have strong defenses, explosive young running backs, and veteran signal-callers who recently replaced younger, more heralded players at the QB position.

Here are my keys to a Titan victory over the Norsemen.

Tulloch's time to shine

All throughout OTA's and training camp, we heard about the constant praise being delivered in the direction of 3rd year linebacker Stephen Tulloch. His athleticism was turning heads as well as putting them on a swivel anytime #55 was in the vicinity.

Yesterday, Jeff Fisher declared that Tulloch would be replacing Ryan Fowler at starting MLB for the upcoming tussle with the Vikings.

What does this lineup change mean for the Tennessee Titan defense?

Total Titans' all-time franchise team: RB

Thanks to all of you who participated in the all-time Titan/Oiler quarterback poll. In a tightly contested battle, Steve McNair edged out Hall of Famer Warren Moon in the vote for all-time franchise QB. Next up in our series of polls is the running back position

Titans reach 3-0 mark with 31-12 victory

The defense was the engine behind the Titans' success in their 31-12 win over the winless Texans.

Texan QB Matt Schaub was finally able to finish a game against the Titans, but overall, he had a miserable day, completing less than half of his passes (17/37) while throwing three interceptions.

My thoughts on the game, after the jump.

Titans vs. Texans: Keys to victory

The Titans are going for their third victory in a row when they clash with the Houston Texans on Sunday. Division games are always of great importance so it's imperative that the Titans avoid a letdown performance.

Here are this week's Titan keys to victory.

2008 Tennessee Titans: Partying like it's 1999?

With Sunday's victory over the hapless Bengals, the Titans moved to 2-0 for the first time since their 1999 Super Bowl season.

The other AFC South teams haven't been so fortunate. The 0-2 Jaguars, a popular Super Bowl favorite, have struggled as a result of a slew of injuries to their offensive linemen. The Colts are 1-1, but are facing their own share of adversity as a result of the latest injury to Bob Sanders. The Texans are, um, the Texans.

Are the stars aligning for a special season in Nashville?

Total Titans' all-time Titan/Oiler team: QB

Last summer, we conducted a series of polls to determine an all-time Titan era team.

As promised, we will now take an even further trip down memory lane. Once a week over the course of the next few months, we will attempt to construct an all-time Titan/Oiler team. For those of you who yearned to acknowledge the greatness of past Oiler standouts such as Earl Campbell, Warren Moon, etc., this is your chance.

First up: the quarterback position.
