Hi. I'm Jody Whelan. I like the Titans. A lot. I'm joining Nick and Kellen here at Titan Sized. As an introduction, I decided to sit down with myself and ask myself some questions:

Rapper Lil' Wayne has a blog on espn.com. In his NFL section he shares some personal stories about his friends in the league, including a great little piece on Vince Young. The local media (esp. radio) are so down on him, its nice to read something positive about (IMHO) a great dude. Here's the link... I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to my favorite sports teams- I saw that Vandy loss coming- so I'm a little worried my Titans aren't taking the Kanas City Chiefs seriously. From Yahoo: One reporter remarked that the Titans practice this week resembled Club Med. A number of veteran players are being rested and doing rehab work this week in an effort to return against the Kansas City Chiefs. Its disconcerting to hear tackle football and Club Med mentioned in the same story. I also read a quote (sorry can't find the link) from LenDale White saying his goal for the bye week was, "To stay out of trouble." But its hard for me to stay mad at that man. Anyway, this would be a bad time for a letdown game. And either the Titans really wore the Ravens out last week, or its time to be worried about the Colts again. The MNF game was gonna be huge anyway, but if it can take us to 7-0 it'll be straight bananas . (Link contains some bad language). Anybody know what "Code Blue" is about? Is it just a blue-out for the Colts game, or is something else going on?

Most of you know that Adam Jones got himself into another little predicament early Wednesday morning, getting into an altercation with one of his security guards at the hotel he was staying at in Dallas. You've got to give Jones' a little bit of credit, going over a year between incidents involving police is a step in the right direction. Maybe it won't be until 2011 that another tussle occurs-perhaps he punches a couple of animals at the petting zoo for eating the food he was displaying only for show....

Maybe it won't be until 2011 that another tussle occurs-perhaps he punches a couple of animals at the petting zoo for eating the food he was displaying only for show. Regardless, before this incident, you haven't heard Jones' name a whole lot this season. This is because he hasn't done too much on the field either. Pacman hasn't played terribly in the Cowboys' banged up secondary (20 tackles, 6 passes defended, 1 forced fumble) but he hasn't done anything spectacular. In the return game, where we thought we were really going to miss him, he's averaging 5 yards a return, compared to the 13 he averaged in his final season with Tennessee. By comparison, after a couple solid efforts in a row, Chris Carr is averaging 13 yards per punt return now. It's allright not to root for Pacman, as if anyone needs permission. My understanding is that since Jones was reinstated for the current season, the Titans are no longer at risk of losing any of their picks offered in the trade. Just be glad that he isn't our problem, and so far hasn't played like a player we miss, even on the field.

Phillies vs. Dodgers A month ago you'd be pretty hard pressed to find someone predicting this as your NLCS. Both teams needed the waning weeks to solidify their post season births, and both were able to get past teams that played better than them for the majority of the season...

It's bye week in Nashville, so we thought we'd talk a little baseball in the meantime. We've got no dogs in this race (the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves were both equally painful at times), but will be watching intently nonetheless. Their is something about playoff baseball that makes it completely different than any other sport. We have already seen the top two teams during the regular season eliminated (the Anaheim Angels and Chicago Cubs) which just goes to show, that records don't matter come October. So, without further ado, here is our ALCS preview...

Offense: Chris Johnson While the overall stats weren't totally overwhelming, 17 rushes for 61 yards, Johnson did get in the end zone twice against one of the better rushing defenses in the league. Minnesota, and their huge defensive line, were able to take away most of the Titan's inside running game ( LenDale White averaged 1.2 yards per carry on 11 rushes), but Johnson's ability to hit the outside exploited what weaknesses there were. It was interesting to see how often Johnson was on the field, regardless of field position. Both of "Solid Gold's" TDs were in goal line situations that we've been accustomed to seeing LenDale punch in. The Titans took a few chances running Johnson up the middle to no avail, but when they got him the ball on the outside he got into the end zone untouched. I would guess that as the season goes on, we'll see the amount of carries vary from week to week, but on Sunday Chris Johnson looked like a feature back that played very well against one of the best rush defenses in the NFL. Honorable Mention: Justin Gage returned from his one game hiatus with a 92 yards receiving performance. While no receiver reached the end zone on Sunday, the Titans passing game is what moved the ball, with Gage's 92 yards accounting for more yardage than the entire Tennessee rushing attack combined. Gage/McCareins might not exactly be as feared as a Boldin/Fitzgerald tandem, but the two Justin's are a solid base for the Tennessee receiving corps. Defense: Albert HaynesworthAt the quarter point of the season, the Tennessee defense has been the best in the NFL. Giving up a paltry 11.5 points per contest, every phase of the D has been clicking in a way that should scare the rest of the league. At the center of this is Haynesworth, perhaps the best defensive player in football, making opposing offenses change there approach in a way that very few players in football can. Looking at the stat sheet after games will very rarely, if at all, show the mark he leaves on each game. More than likely Haynesworth will never lead the team in any major statistical category, but the fact most teams need at least two guys to try to contain him allows for the rest of the defense to do their thing with a few less people in their way. Inexplicably week 4 will mark Albert's first game ball (we know he's been anxiously waiting for this), not only for another dominant effort (2 sacks in a suffocating win), but for being the defensive MVP for the first quarter of the season. Honorable Mention: DT Tony Brown had himself a fine game on Sunday vs. the Vikes. Lined up next to Haynesworth, the 4th year player out of Memphis continued his solid play as perhaps the least familiar player on the D line. Brown recorded 5 tackles with a fumble recovery and 1.5 sacks, bringing his season total to 3.5.

We've got ESPN's College GameDay coming to Vanderbilt for the first time ever as the Commodores look to go 5-0. I'll be there to see it as they take on the (sometimes) mighty Auburn Tigers. It should be a good one, and while deep down I'm an Auburn fan, I'll be happy to see Vandy get off to such a great start if they are able to pull off the upset. and The second Presidential Debate will be held on Tuesday, October 7, at the Belmont University's Curb Event Center. This will will be a town hall-style debate in which voters, both present and through the Internet, will pose questions on any topic to the candidates. That's big time people. Let's please try and act right. Read more here.

Nick and I are going to do something a little bit different this week, and each write our own game preview. Those of you who know us might have a little bit of an idea as to why we're doing this. (Here's a little hint: before Steve McNair became a Raven, I might have been the only person in Nashville with a Ravens jersey). I'm originally from Baltimore, and still show love to the "local" teams, no matter how much that has made close friends hate me for some short periods of time. 2002's division realignment seemed like the perfect "in" to root for both of my "local" teams, without too much contradiction (in case you forgot, the Ravens and Titans were both in the now defunct AFC Central-trying to root for both would have put me in the same boat as those few assholes that like the Yankees and the Red Sox (I'm talking to you Dane Cook). It's worked pretty well so far, but here's the one week every few seasons that I cease to be a Titan's fan. Let the hate commence:
