Video: Switch Hitter vs. Switch Pitcher

Last night, I was watching SNY's broadcast of the Brooklyn Cyclones vs. Staten Island Yankees. I was hoping to see former South Georgia Peanuts closer Drew Shetrone make his Yankees debut.

Instead, I saw something pretty crazy... The Yankees pitcher - Pat Venditte- is ambidextrous. With two outs in the 9th inning, Cyclones batter Ralph Enriquez stepped to the plate. You see, Enriquez is a switch hitter. And so it began...

Playing for Peanuts, Episode 5: "It's Raining Bats and Balls"

This is an open thread to discuss Episode 5 of Playing for Peanuts. The episode is called, "It's Raining Bats and Balls." The episode premieres Sunday, June 20 in most markets. Check local listings.

In this episode, manager Wally Backman gets ejected and a media firestorm erupts around Backman, the South Coast League and the production of "Playing for Peanuts." Meanwhile, the Peanuts visit a charity bingo hall in Anderson, SC in an attempt to kill time and win some money. And then Cecil Fielder shows up to talk baseball.

What Are Jeff Wilpon's Qualifications?

"Jeff was a baseball player as a youngster but didn't go far. In 1983, at the request of and as a favor to Fred Wilpon, the Montreal Expos drafted Jeff, a catcher. He joined Jamestown of the New York-Penn League but apparently never played before he was released a week or so later. Jeff Wilpon's name does not appear in the team's statistics for that season."

Meet the Mets!

Willie Randolph's firing was a classless move by an organization that has no idea what it is doing. The Mets treated the face of their organization like a piece of garbage for nearly a month and then they let the axe fall in a hotel room three thousand miles from home.

Willie Randolph was apparently fired in a hotel room three thousand miles from home. He was treated like a cheap whore in a four star hotel. Nice going, Mets. Real classy. I hope they at least gave him cab fare to get the airport. Jesus.

Ex-Met Backman has had one wild ride of late

As Willie Randolph writhes on the Mets' skillet, his job in serious jeopardy, it's interesting to wonder whether Backman would be a candidate to replace him had he made different choices - and whether the Mets should give him a job somewhere in their organization now.

Petition: Hire Wally Backman

A Mets fan has created a petition to urge the Mets to hire Wally Backman as a coach or manager in their organization.
