INDECISION 2008!

The Daily Show crew tackles the Fall Classic, and rips Mr. Met and the major presidential candidates a new one...

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?!

This shot was taken at the Vet as the '93 season got under way. That team won eight of its first nine, 51 of its first 72 and finished 97-65...aka, one of the most glorious summers in phillies history, and my childhood.

Gotta love how there is NO DESCRIPTION of what good 'ol Dutch Daulton is doing these days....my guess is that he's kicking it on one the moons of jupiter right about now...

the question is...who's your favorite '93 Phillie?

EERILY FAMILIAR, NO?

Olympic table tennis medalist Wang Hao will undergo team-mandated counseling after reportedly getting into a fight with a security guard who was trying to stop him from urinating outside a karaoke club.

According to a Reuters report, witnesses said Wang emerged drunk from the club last Thursday, attempted to urinate outside the building, then came to blows with the security guard.

"I am the famous Wang Hao! I am the world champion! Does it matter if I beat you?" the 24-year-old said, according to one witness.

A Chinese table tennis team spokesperson downplayed the incident, saying it was only a heated exchange of words.

"There was no drunkenness or brawling. There was just an argument," China national team manager Huang Biao was quoted as saying in Monday's Shanghai Morning Post.

"Because Wang is a celebrity, the story has been amplified."

Wang, a two-time Olympic singles silver medalist, recently won a gold medal in the team competition at the Beijing Games.

also ironic in that there is new news from chris mortensen @ ESPN suggesting that EtOH was involved in the pacman incident as well. i seriously hope the commish comes down hard on pacman.

Dark History Surrounds The Euro 2008 Final

The football stadium in Vienna that today will play host to the Euro 2008 final between Germany and Spain has a sinister history...it served as a prison for Austrian Jews before they were deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp. While held at the stadium, the prisoners were subjected to physical and mental torture, and they were subjected to scientific "race studies". ESPN tells the story of Gershon Evan, the only known surviving prisoner of Ernst Happel Stadium.

He Ain't Done Yet...

moyer assures fans/supporters that this is not his final season. this old hound can still hunt!

NBA Rivalry Runs Deep.

some famous Laker fans weigh in on the Celtics-Lakers rivalry...

Who: Louis Freese, aka B-Real.

Celtics hate rating (out of 10): "11-plus."

Why: "I remember those days -- the stuff we went through with Boston, the elbows and clotheslines -- like it was yesterday. Those were some dirty dudes, man. Ugly looking, too. I hated them with all my heart."

Celtic he'd most like to clothesline: "Danny Ainge. A very annoying character. They were all just annoying-type players."

Song from discography that best reflects his Celtics hate: "How I Could Just Kill a Man." (What, you were expecting "I Want to Get High"?)

Best Ballpark Food

yeahhhhh phillyyyyy:

But the prize for vernacular food probably goes to Citizens Bank Park, the four-year-old home of the Philadelphia Phillies. Most of the action takes place in Ashburn Alley (named for the Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn), a brick promenade behind center field where fans can practically hang over the visitors' bullpen or dine under the giant Liberty Bell sign that lights up and rocks back and forth when the Phillies hit a home run.

Ashburn Alley is home to hoagies, Chickie & Pete's crab fries (French fries dusted with Old Bay seasoning) and two of the city's respected cheese steak purveyors, Rick's Steaks and Tony Luke's. Tony Luke's had the better cheese steak of the two (though their other locations are notably superior). Even better is Tony Luke's juicy roasted pork and provolone sandwich, dressed with tender broccoli rabe, as good a meat sandwich as there is in the majors.

Also not to be missed is the Schmitter sandwich from McNally's, an outpost of an 87-year-old Germantown tavern at the end of Ashburn Alley. It's not named for the Phillies legend Mike Schmidt, but rather, I was told, after a long-gone McNally's customer who always ordered it with Schmidt's Beer, the now-defunct Pennsylvania brand.

The Schmitter packs, from top to bottom: melted cheese, a generous squirt of a "special sauce," griddled salami, more cheese, sliced tomato, fried onions, griddled steak and another slice of cheese, just to help keep the beef in place. It was the unhealthiest thing I encountered on my cholesterol-gathering trip, an unholy alliance of meats, cheese and mayonnaise tucked into a Kaiser roll. It was also impossible to stop eating after the first bite.

THEY FORGOT TO MENTION BULL's BBQ!

this one tastes like the cow got into an onion patch...

breaks rule #1 (keep it clean), but you gotta love anything that pokes fun at ozzie guillen...that crazy bastard.

YO!!!! MITCH WILLIAMS!!

i absolutely love these commercials that are airing during the phillies post-game show on comcast sportsnet. they feature phormer phillies closer mitch williams, aka the wild thing, doing a parody on the bud light "dude" commercial campaign. peep it!

KING COLE DOES IT AGAIN! Phillies win 5-0!!

cole hamels just mowed down the reds with a 3-hit shut out in the phillies fastest game of the season...2 hours and 6 minutes! this is the second complete game of the year for hamels. this guy is unbelievable, and this was just the kind of start he needed after 2 shaky outings in a row.

the team really needed this after a real heart breaker of a game last night, which saw myers make one of his best stars of the season only to see the offense stall.

...looks like everyone will have to wait to see griffey's 600th trip around the bases!
