Is it just me or is there a shocking resemblence between Manu, Italian soccer, and Vlade Divac. I haven't seen more flopping from an NBA player in years, and it's starting to get irritating. As everyone who knows anything about soccer knows, the Italians are straight notorious for diving and "flopping" all over the place. They fall down, do some great acting (the Academy should start looking at the World Cup for new award nominees) and after a quick squirt and spray from the "magic" bottles they are up and running iike nothing ever happened. The NBA has had its previous floppers, and most well-known was probably Vlade Divac (Kings/Lakers/Hornets). The one that I always saw as the wrost was the "Mailman", Karl Malone. If you don't believe me go look up the stat for the most free throws attempted by a single player, and at the top of the list the long-time Jazz power forward will be sitting. Today, Manu Ginobli has taken over the title.
Not only does Manu flop, but he is so damn "aggressive" when he does. One touch and Ginobli goes flying across the court as if a land mine has just detonated. The worst part about it is that Manu is too good to be a flop. He is my least favorite player in the NBA, but I have enormous respect for his game. He is so versatile, he slashes and attacks the rim, he drops more Dime Pieces than Nick Cannon, and he's got the range of an assassin. I don't know whether it is because he is on the Spurs, who are given more calls than Duke at home, or because his acting looks so believable at that on-court angle, but NBA refs (especially in the playoffs) fall for it everytime. I give him credit, becuase apparently he has mastered the art of the flop, but is it just me? They are so blatently terrible that I don't know whether to throw my TV out my three-story window or laugh till I can't even stand up anymore.
I'll end it by saying this... as much as it hurts me to say it, Manu is a phenomenal player, but he has already tarnished his reputation to fans from every other team besides San Antonio. Manu cut out the dives for your own sake, because your nose and whining are starting to resemble Coach K more and more each day.
