6 Teams Josh Childress Should See Before Greece

J-Chill must really want to get out of Atlanta with that 3 year $20 million he's got on the table with Olympiakos in Greece. Right now, it's either a sign-and-trade or Greece for him, but there are other teams that could really use him, especially on the east coast.

Philadelphia 76ers

If Childress wants a sign-and-trade, Philly is a good place for both teams, especially when he visited them already. With him and Louis Williams, an undersized shooting guard, both restricted free agents, both teams trade a solid guard off the bench for another, only the Sixers get size. It also gives the Hawks an opportunity to truly go small when Lou comes off the bench.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Last season, Sasha Pavlovic didn't live up to the hype after going to the Finals in 2007. Five years removed from Serbia and 4 years since joining the Cavs, maybe he needs a fresh start with a new team. Childress would be an upgrade in terms of scoring, relieving part of the load on LeBron James and Pavlovic would add size to the Hawks.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit's looking to shake things up with the roster, and with Rodney Stuckey's play carrying from the playoffs over to the summer league, Chauncey Billups or Richard Hamilton might be on the trading block. Atlanta also needs a good, veteran big man to come off the bench for them. Trade Childress and Mike Bibby for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess and Detroit starts the rebuilding process.

Indiana Pacers

Marquis Daniels might be a good fit for Atlanta. He went undrafted out of college and averaged near 16 PPG in the playoffs his rookie year in Dallas. Daniels' contract, in its last year, is probably around Childress' price range and is near what Olympiakos is offering. It wouldn't be a bad choice for the rebuilding Pacers.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks are reloading after getting a new coach in Scott Skiles, but he's already made Charlie Villanueva unhappy before he even coached. The Hawks landing Villanueva is a long shot and they're probably not even interested, but highflyer Desmond Mason is a good possibility. Mason would add experience to the Hawks, something they lack. Childress can back-up Michael Redd and is a great compliment for a team with young talent in Andrew Bogut and Ramon Sessions and a veteran in his prime in Richard Jefferson.

Charlotte Bobcats

The Bobcats signed Matt Carroll to a 5-year extension last season, but Childress is better. Carroll could add better 3-point shooting for the Hawks with his near 44% from beyond the arc, #9 in the NBA. Adding Childress behind Jason Richardson, Gerald Wallace and Emeka Okafor might be the move they need to get to their first playoff series in franchise history.

The Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards could also use him, but don't have much.f anything, to offer. Otherwise, there's still opportunities for him in the NBA.

Jason Williams Trying to Rejoin Kings

It's been 10 years since Jason Williams was the #7 pick for the Sacramento Kings, when he was one of the most exciting players at the time. After winning a championship with the Miami Heat 2 years ago and dropping to the worst record with that same franchise, J-Will's looking to come around full circle. To the team that he played for first.

Williams turns 33 years old this November and had 10 years under his belt. In 679 games played, he's started in all but 30 of them, but he's certain to come off the bench for starting point guard Beno Udrih, who they just locked up with a 5 year full mid-level exception. Even though the Kings locked up a point guard for the long term and drafted rookie Sean Singletary, whose defensive intensity has been impressive in the summer league, Williams' agent, Dan Tobin, has been working to reunite Williams' with his former team even before Udrih agreed to return with the Kings within a day of negotiations.

Williams was traded to the Vancouver Grizzlies for Mike Bibby in 2001 after having his worst season in 3 years before ending up as the starting point guard for a championship team in Miami. Even though Kings GM Geoff Petrie has said that he's likely to be done free agent shopping with a full roster, Tobin commented in the Sacramento Bee, "We're looking for a specific type of situation where Jason can help elevate a team to that next step. That's what he's been really good at."

Williams' wasn't even their second option if Udrih didn't re-sign. The Kings contacted Chris Duhon as a back-up plan. They also have a full roster of 15 players and are right at the threshold of the luxary tax. If they do get him, all they can afford is the bi-annual exception after he made $9 million last year, but it would fill in their need of a vetran point guard. It'd also wouldn't interfere with the 2010 free agency class. Even though he averaged career lows near 9 PPG, 2 RPG and 5 APG, they can use desperate help in the assist category because they're second to last in the league

Getting Williams would also be an upgrade from Anthony Johnson, who recently signed with the Orlando Magic. The Kings can also have a spot open in the near future if they cut 2nd round pick Patrick Ewing Jr., who has scored only 2 points in 4 summer league games. J-Will's still got handles, dishes out alley-oops, would be a solid veteran back-up and could help Sean Singletary adjust to the NBA game. If Udrih got hurt, Singleary wouldn't be ready, but Williams' will. It'd also be a great way to end his career in the city that first embraced him, like former Kings' draft pick Corliss Williamson did with the Kings a year ago after he won a championship with the Detroit Pistons and traded to the Kings from the Philadelphia 76ers'.

Seeing #55 back in Sactown would be cool, and if he can help the Kings with their long term plans for a short term, it'd be even better.

Ron Artest E-Mail: "I'm Still a King, Haters :)"

A week after cooling off, Ron Artest sent an e-mail to ESPN and the Sacramento Bee, stating that he apologized to the Kings, stating that he was frustrated at a time he was trying to show loyalty. Artest regretted his decision of not opting out of his contract after recieving "misinformation" about being in their long-term plans

The e-mail sent to ESPN and the Bee:

"I made the comment about making a mistake on my opt out clause because I really did a make a mistake. I had wrong info about extension options, and it could have cost me a new deal. I was informed that the Kings had me in their long-term plans, so that's why I decided to stay in contract. I just wanted to show loyalty. However, when I spoke to the Kings, that was not an option, and I grew frustrated with my decision immediately. I do apologize for being mistakenly frustrated with the Kings. It was a mistake that I made and I will move on from. I don't know my future, but I'm still a King, Haters :)"

Like he said on the Carmichael Dave Show, a radio show he frequently co-hosts, he's looking to be on a team long-term, and he was loyal to the Kings and hoping for that extension he wanted, but it looks like that isn't going to happen. Who gave Ron the misinformation is unknown to this point. Possibilities are his agent, Mark Stevens, or someone in the Kings organization.

All I know is with Artest a King for one more year making almost $8.5 million, they can trade him to either get some value back or clear some cap space for, you know, 2010. They're en route to being $20+ million under the salary cap. They can also change their minds and sign him to an extension or re-sign him after the season's over.

If Artest really puts this behind him, and isn't traded over the off-season, you can expect him to play ball for the Kings and showcase himself for the NBA for one more year.

Boom Dizzle Takes $4.8 Million Paycut With Clippers

Baron Davis walked away from $17.8 million after opting out yesterday and will sign with the L.A. Clippers for 5 years $65 million, approximately $13 million a year. It looks like he'll be teaming up with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette next year for a shot at a playoff run for the next few years. It was a great run for him and the Warriors the past couple of years, but it looks like that the Baron Davis era is over, and it's time for both parties to move on.

Kings Lock-up Beno Udrih For 5 Years

Keep searching Knicks and Clippers, the Kings signed the coveted PG and one of the top free agents to a 5 year mid-level exception less than a day after he bacame a free agent. The mid-level was the highest the Kings could offer and Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy met with him in New York after the deadline passed last night. The Knicks were also in the running for him with Stephon Marbury on his way out.

"I am so happy and honored to be returning to the Kings," Udrih told ESPN.com. "They took a chance on me and believed in me. I can't wait to get back to my teammates and the city that has become home to me."

Don't let anyone tell you he's not a worthy starting point guard, after getting traded from the Spurs and cut in training camp from Minnesota, he came to the Kings with a broken shooting hand (left) and averaged 12.4 PPG, 4.3 APG, and shoots 46% from the field. He filled in the starting role coming off of a long term injury, came off the bench when Mike Bibby returned and started again when Bibby was traded. He's proven that he can play at the NBA level and the Spurs are kicking themselves for trading him away. He had everything to prove and he proved it.

Udrih was the #3 unrestricted point guard available behind Gilbert Arenas and Baron Davis this off-season and now he's gone within 24 hours. The Kings were fresh out of point guards before drafting Sean Singletary. All I can say is, thanks for staying Beno, see you here next season!

New King Patrick Ewing Jr. Behind the Back Dunk

Hopefully his game is just as good as his dunk. Taken at #43, the Big East 6th Man of the Year averaged 6.1 PPG and 4.2 RPG in his senior year at Georgetown and is known to bring good defense off the bench. Maybe Artest can take him under his wing and teach him a few tricks. His dad must be proud.

James Jones a Free Agent

Three point sharpshooter James Jones didn't use his player option, becoming a free agent. This might force the Blazers to pick a different player in the draft. They've been trying to move up the draft, enough to get D.J. Augustin, but now they're left with small forwards Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw. Jones shot a team high 44.4% from beyond the arc and made 91 three pointers in a total of 58 games, on pace for 128 three pointers in a season. Teams that could use Jones' expertise are the Knicks, Nets, Timberwolves and Heat, all in need of a SF, in the lower half of 3 point and are non-playoff teams.

Four Players Invited to USA's Select Team

Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Kevin Martin and Al Jefferson have been invited to prepare this year's Olympic team during scrimmges and practices in Las Vegas. However, if any players impress in that time, they can be strong canidates for the World Championships in Turkey in 2010 or the Olympics in London 2012. These 4 players are seen as the rising stars of the NBA.

Rondo and Perkins were starters on the NBA champion Celtics team, Martin finished 6th in scoring and Jefferson was one of 4 players who averaged 20 PPG 10 RPG. They made a splash on the NBA scene, and maybe, just maybe, they'll make it onto the international scene and win gold for us.

Heat Making Move by Waiving Player?

The Heat released Alexander Johnson today, but that's nothing compared to the trade with Seattle they're supposedly working on. If they do, the Heat will trade Mark Blount and slide to #4 in the draft and the Sonics will send Chris Wilcox to the Heat and move up to the #2 slot, which leaves Udonis Haslem's future in question. If that happens the Sonics will most likely select Beasley while the Heat try to get O.J. Mayo if he's not picked by Minnesota. If not, they'll go for Jerryd Bayless.

Anyone want to change their mock drafts for that Oden jersey?
