I understand
Lito Sheppard's situation
and regret that he's not happy with his contract but that's business.
The Eagles called Sheppard's bluff by bringing in
Asante Samuel.
Sheppard signed what was a lucrative deal a number of years ago, then expressed some displeasure with it now. At the same time he was taking his time getting back from injury last season. The Eagles obviously put the two items together and didn't like what they saw.
Sheppard is underpaid now when you compare his salary to the other top level cornerbacks in the National Football League. I'm sure there were people who told Sheppard not to sign the deal the Eagles offered him because he was going to eventually be in this situation.
Sheppard wanted to get that quick money. He got it then later decided he wasn't happy with the contract. I don't feel sorry for him because a contract is a contract and business is business.
I've been around hundreds of players who thought they were underpaid.
Why is everybody feeling sorry for Sheppard all of a sudden? Is it because the ultra popular
Brian Dawkins said he feels sorry for him?
I understand why Dawkins feels sorry for him but Sheppard was an adult when he signed the contract.
I root for every player to make as much as he can make but I don't feel sorry for them if they don't get everything they want.
This is business so you give up something to get something. He signed the contract that paid him a $8.7 million signing bonus. Now I'm supposed to feel sorry for him.
Business is business and Joe Banner and the Eagles gave him the money then so they could have him under contract for years to come. I think he' s worth more but he made the wrong decision a number of years ago.
Samuel gambled, played out his contract and won. Sheppard chose the quick money.
