So Im sitting in Buffalo Wild Wings this past weekend still recovering from the night before (we were all out late celebrating after the OSU victory over Wisconsin). Well I'm sitting there watching the Lions game and things just keep going from bad to worse.
Jon Kitna can't do anything when he drops back because the Lions o-line is terrible and when he does get some time to throw the ball, it seems like all the receivers can do is just watch the ball go through their hands. Than, while I was watching the game and knowing there was pretty much no way the Lions were going to win by the start of the second half(considering with about 10 minutes left in the 3rd the Bears were up 31-0), I started to think about the fantasy players i have playing in this game. Than i remembered that i had both Matt Forte and Calvin Johnson starting for me. And at that point I told my buddy "You know what, I hope Matt Forte keeps rushing and scores more points for me, and in turn, Detroit will be forced to throw the ball and therefore, Calvin will get more catches and earn me more points in fantasy also." After that he looked at me and was like "That's terrible that you care more about your fantasy team than the Lions." And i looked at him and was like "Dude, you're a Philly fan, at least your team is always decent and even made it to the Super Bowl a few years ago."
After that conversation I started thinking to myself, i love the
Detroit Lions but its hard to root for a team that is pretty much out of the playoffs before the trade deadline every year, and its ESPECIALLY hard when your team starts out 6-2 and still doesn't make the playoffs. For me honestly, this year I really got into fantasy football and the one thing I love is the fact that i always have a good chance of winning my game that week(especially when LT finally decides to be like the old LT and destroy everything in fantasy, which I'm still waiting on) unlike the Lions, who I see being the underdog in every game for the rest of the year. I would honestly not be terribly surprised if Detroit doesn't win a game. Will i be disappointed? yes, but it won't be too terrible if I win my league this year(at least that i have some control over). I know this isnt a great article but its my first one on this site so the rest should get better.
