Spring Game Attendance Numbers From Around the Country

Over 80,000 Husker fans poured into Memorial Stadium for the 2008 Red-White Game. It was the most well attended spring scrimmage in the nation. Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State and Florida each had over 60,000 fans in attendance and many schools saw their attendance climb from last year's spring game.

Pelini's Tenure Could Be Critical

The next three years could determine if the Huskers return to their former glory or become the new Minnesota Gophers.

On Talent

The assessment, evaluation, and value of talent is one of the great enigmas in college football. It is very difficult to win big without it, though having it does not necessarily assure wins, either. It is a qualifying factor, a prerequisite with other elements required. Talent is made all the more slippery when you realize that its evaluation is subjective. Yes, speed and size are objective. But "beauty" has proven time and time again to be in the eye of the beholder.

Recruiting in the age of Attrition

Beyond the class-by-class signings, football is filled with greater amounts of attrition than ever.

Programs must manage their rosters, build programs to retain players, and do there best to confront both bad attitudes and bad luck if they want to survive in the "Age of Attrition".

Pay For Play a Bad Idea

Rod Gilmore of ESPN is one of many we hear calling for college football players to be paid.

In a country that horribly undervalues education, this kind of statement should be no surprise, yet I'm taken aback by it every time.

Real Men Crochet

Boise State RB Ian Johnson is a real man. His hobbies include running over line backers and crocheting scarves and beanies.

Don't worry, the NCAA stepped in and put a stop to it.

Notable Quotes from the Cotton Bowl

Wondering why Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan decided to run a fake punt in the second quarter deep in his own territory or why he decided to go for it on fourth and eleven instead of attempting a 47 yard field goal to tie the game?

Read on to hear the Coach in his own words as well as insight from NU and Auburn players and coaches on the 2007 Cotton Bowl.

Nebraska: Team of the (Next) Decade?

As happy as I am about the direction of the Nebraska football program, we have to face facts. This just hasn't been our decade.

At Last - Nebraska Vs. Oklahoma

Many have bemoaned the loss of the Nebraska vs. Oklahoma series that defined college football for so many people. When the Big 12 powers-that-be ended the NU-OU series, they only left the door open a crack. If those schools could qualify for the title game by winning their respective divisions, they could meet for all the marbles at the end of the season. Well, that will happen for the first time on December 2nd. A game 10 years in the making is sure to be filled with interesting storylines, physical football, and a true conference champion.

Who deserves a BCS title shot?

In all probability the national championship game will feature a one-loss team and as there are many teams in that category, I'm going to run down who's deserving and who's not of a title shot.

Assessing the Big 12 So Far

Granted, we're only 2 games in to the Big 12 conference season, but a few trends are already starting to emerge. Specifically, Texas has a serious leg up on the rest of the South division following their win over OU. And, two teams in the North - Nebraska and Missouri - look like they are headed for a showdown. And maybe this is the year that a measure of competitive balance is restored between the divisions.

Observations Following "Survival Saturday"

It was "Survival Saturday". This week's games - both in Lincoln and around the country - showed how fickle and tough this college football game can be. ESPN didn't see it coming, or else they would have put a logo on it and promoted it on every platform they run. In that mess, Nebraska managed to win against Kansas. For that, Husker fans can be thankful. And, watching the NU game revealed a couple of things to me about the Huskers and about myself.
